Questions and Answers
Whether there is any difference in Audio/Video quality depends on the individual. Those people that rely on theories - rather than actual science and scientific theory, that involves observation and testing - will tell you it's all digital and make no difference. Audiophiles and videophiles will tell you there's a difference, but some prefer copper over silver. I would say that the silver-plated copper provides greater accuracy, with greater high frequency information, but if you prefer more color saturation (in audio or video) and more warmth, you may prefer pure copper cables.
Tthe cables built by Monoprice are just as good and under 10 dollars compared to $80 to $100 for the ones at Best Buy or other retail stores.
I did not tell the Best Buy salesman that I was an Electrical Engineer as I asked them to explain to me why I had to buy the over priced HDMI cables that they sold. They all lie and make false statements about the bandwidth and speed requirements by the LCD or LED TV's that they are selling trying to sucker you into buying monster cables.
Don't be fooled!
PROS: See my review
I have told many about Monoprice and their outstanding quality, pricing, and customer service!!! These are the best kept secret in electronics.
Con: Stiffer than normal cable. Heavy. They together create a mechanical load on the HDMI jack. HDMI jack does not have mechanical support such as screws like that on VGA and DVI connectors.
Request: Most HDMI cables are not in walls. Request light and flexible 24AWG gold plated HDMI cable. Willing to pay extra. (Thick rubber/plastic jacket does not a good cable made. Thick AWG wire is.)
Unless you have a 90 or 270 degree HDMI elbow (which monoprice sells for a very good price of around 2 bucks), you need to allow 8 to 9 inches of clearance behind this cable in order not to put any stress on it. One of mine broke off at the connector when I moved a TV stand 6 inches from the wall.
PROS: Good quality cable
CONS: Very stiff, which can be good or bad depending on your use for it.
You may not even have any HDMI components...
buy it anyway.
Frame it. Hang it. Admire it. Make friends jealous.
yeah... it is that good.
