Choice Series 12AWG Oxygen-Free Pure Bare Copper Speaker Wire, 100ft

Get the most out of your home audio system with high quality, oxygen-free, pure bare copper speaker wire from Monoprice!

This speaker wire features two conductors made of high purity (greater than 99.95% pure), oxygen-free bare copper. Pure Bare Copper is a superior conductor to the copper clad aluminum (CCA) conductors used in most other inexpensive speaker wire. CCA is only about 68% as conductive as pure bare copper. This additional resistance is added to the impedance of your speakers and can negatively effect the sound.

For the wire to have no audible effect, the total wire resistance should be no more than 5% of the lowest impedance of your speakers. Even speakers rated for a nominal 8-ohms, may dip to as low as 4-ohms at some frequencies, which further reduces the total cable resistance allowed in the wire. Using Pure Bare Copper speaker wire ensures that the total load put on the amplifier remains as close as possible to the impedance curve of your speakers.

For example, a 16AWG 2-conductor Pure Bare Copper speaker wire has a total resistance of 0.803 ohms per 100 feet (both directions must be considered). By comparison, a 16AWG 2-conductor CCA speaker wire has a total resistance of 1.181 ohms per 100 feet. Assuming 4 ohms is the lowest impedance of your speakers, a speaker wire run can be no more 0.2-ohms total. 20 feet of 16AWG Pure Bare Copper would be 0.1606 ohms, well under the 0.2-ohm limit. On the other hand, 20 feet of 16AWG CCA would be 0.2362 ohms, well OVER the 0.2-ohm limit.

One side of the clear outer PVC jacket is marked with an easily visible blue stripe to indicate polarity.

BEST ANSWER: It is actually 12 gauge, the picture must just be an error on monoprice's side.
what is the capacitance per foot, of Monoprice 12 awg speaker wire?

    Wow!
This is truly the speaker cable of The Gods! I mean look at this stuff, it's a hundred feet long and rolled up like Mother Teresa's cosmic Karma. It's on a ROLL people, have you ever seen anything bad come ON A ROLL?

This is high purity, oxygen free copper. Bad signals will LITERALLY asphyxiate trying to pass through this cable as there is NO AIR for them to breathe!

This cable transfers audio signals AT THE SPEED OF LIGHT! No other cable, at any price, can transfer audio signals faster than this!!!

If you don't buy this cable you are wasting your money. What could be finer than 100 feet of 12 AWG, oxygen free, high purity loudspeaker cable that can transfer signals AT THE SPEED OF LIGHT?!?!

Once again, Monoprice delivers the goods!
Monoprice was and still is my go-to place for the best offering in cables and accessories at the best possible prices. I just finished installing my beefy 12-gauge wire to my speakers and they are solid. As described above, the sheath is a little on the thick side, so if you're planing on using Monoprice's banana plugs (also recommended), you'll need to sand down the length of sheath that goes into the banana plug to fit, otherwise, use a thinner gauge cable. After this minor adjustment this cable is perfect. My new high-end speakers deserved better cable than what I had originally. These speaker cables are just perfect. Thanks Monoprice!

PROS: Pure copper (not copper-clad aluminum) for maximum current. The best value BY FAR compared to equivalent cables of other brands and their fancy packaging. The cable is nice and thick and well insulated.

CONS: Insulation sheath is too thick to fit into Monoprice's banana plugs. Requires sanding it down a little for snug fit. Had to use a rotary tool with drum sander, but after this slight mod it's perfect, so I still rate this cable a solid "10".

    5/5
Just received the cable today (looks exactly as pictured with the new black graphic spool)and it really is of great quality. The PVC coating is extremely thick and matched perfectly to Monoprices solderless banana plugs. My only qualm is the blue line that indicates polarity is quite thin and only on one side.

This was NOT 12 AWG speaker wire. This wire is good quality but is 14 AWG at best. Still a decent buy, but I feel this item is being falsely advertised.

The first thing I thought... wrong cable... to thin! Then I compared it to my 14 Gauge speaker cables and my 14 gauge speaker cables were thicker (housing and bare wire). Then I compared it to my 12 gauge speaker cable and these were/are almost half the thickness (housing and bare wire). Good speaker cables should feel heavy but very flexible and limp. These feel light, not very flexible, and not limp. Limp meaning if you are holding a quality cable, the cable should fall limp from your hands and the cables don't retain a shap if you make a L shape. These cables will hold the L shape. Monoprice is a great company but I think their supplier is giving them 14 gauge and not 12 gauge. Currently I'm resolving this customer service and I sent them pictures.

    Why buy 12AWG?
    because they don't sell 10AWG!

oh... my humor is boundless. Actually, this stuff is pretty nice.

I might recommend you pick up several spools (a previous reviewer said that it comes in a roll... and while yes... nothing bad ever comes in a roll... the technically correct term would be a 'spool') ((and I voted your feedback highly useful, because wit is underrated in this world))... yes I would suggest you pick up several SPOOLS of this capable wire.

At this price, you can horde the spools like Smaug (dragon from the Hobbit) or Captain Barbarosa (Pirates of the Carribean)... and when there is another market spike in the price of copper... you can retire a wealthy audiophile.

Awesome cable for a super cheap price!
I just installed this cable last night and let me tell you the difference between this quality of cable and my old old dental floss home theater in a box cable is night and day.

The sound of my home theater with these cables is much more dynamic, crisp, bold, and deeper. Highs are much more precise and the clariy of my mids now is phenomenal. System now gets much louder at lower volume settings.

I just can believe the quality of this cable for the price. I love it so much that I am purchasing another 100ft of it as soon as I finish this review. This cable rocks!

only time will tell and it is no good
I bought total 150 feet of this 12 awg speaker wire to replace the 16 awg wires I have originally which is already 4 year old at that time. 4 year later, I moved to a new place and trying to setup my home stereo. I got the 16 awg and monoprice 12 awg out of the box and noticed the difference. the 8 year old 16 awg did not change color, while the 4 year old monoprice 12awg is heavily oxidized and turned to green inside the clear insulation. initially i thought it is the clear insulation discolored. I stripped the wire and realized it is the copper wire. it looks like something in the clear insulation reacted with the copper as the inner strands are not oxidized, or not as bad as the outer strands. i know nothing lasts forever. but, speakers for only 4 years. they are so heavily oxidized and I can not terminate them again and expect them to work effectively. monoprice should really look into the issue. don't let another customer wait for 4 years and write another bad review on this product. if you want to put this into the walls and expect it to work for years, FORGET about it. you will have more troubles down the road. also, this is not rated for in-wall use anyway. the in-wall rated, pvc insulation speaker wire might give you a better luck as it may not react with the copper wire as the material used in this one.

    PROS: looks good initially

CONS: heavily oxidized after 4 years

    Can't find a better price
I ordered a 100 ft spool just to check it out. Very impressed and will order the 300 ft spool soon. I have a lot of speakers and receivers in our home and this is nice wire. Some systems will probably only need AWG14 but this 12 gauge is for my main listening area and there is no problem if you go heavier other than a few more dollars. Definitely get banana plugs if you can use them, makes life easier.

PROS: Good thick yet flexible wire and easy to see polarity.Clear insulation wows friends, they can see the thickness and quality of the copper. Works with Monoprice closed type banana plugs.

    CONS: None
