    Access Series 14AWG CL2 Rated 4-Conductor Speaker Wire, 100ft

Get the most out of your home audio system with high quality, oxygen-free, pure bare copper speaker wire from Monoprice!

This speaker wire features four conductors made of high purity (greater than 99.95% pure), oxygen-free bare copper. Pure Bare Copper is a superior conductor to the copper clad aluminum (CCA) conductors used in most other inexpensive speaker wire. CCA is only about 68% as conductive as pure bare copper. This additional resistance is added to the impedance of your speakers and can negatively effect the sound.

For the wire to have no audible effect, the total wire resistance should be no more than 5% of the lowest impedance of your speakers. Even speakers rated for a nominal 8-ohms, may dip to as low as 4-ohms at some frequencies, which further reduces the total cable resistance allowed in the wire. Using Pure Bare Copper speaker wire ensures that the total load put on the amplifier remains as close as possible to the impedance curve of your speakers.

For example, a 16AWG 2-conductor Pure Bare Copper speaker wire has a total resistance of 0.803 ohms per 100 feet (both directions must be considered). By comparison, a 16AWG 2-conductor CCA speaker wire has a total resistance of 1.181 ohms per 100 feet. Assuming 4 ohms is the lowest impedance of your speakers, a speaker wire run can be no more 0.2-ohms total. 20 feet of 16AWG Pure Bare Copper would be 0.1606 ohms, well under the 0.2-ohm limit. On the other hand, 20 feet of 16AWG CCA would be 0.2362 ohms, well OVER the 0.2-ohm limit.

Each conductor is jacketed with color-coded PVC for easy polarity identification. The entire cable assembly is jacketed in a white, CL2-rated PVC material. The CL2 rating indicates that the cable complies with fire safety and insurance requirements, making it safe for use inside the walls of residential class buildings.

What is the recommended gauge for a 40' run to rear speakers - do I need 12 ga., or will 14 ga be sufficient?
    Michael K on Dec 2, 2017
BEST ANSWER: I have longer runs out to my back patio speakers using only 14 ga and it works fine. I like to use 12ga in my house, and that's what I run to all my surround speakers in my theater. I use 10 for my main speakers. However... there are those that believe you need to buy cryogenically treated platinum wire that would cost $20 per foot. So... there are obvious reasons why you would want thicker wire... it has less resistance. On a 40-foot run for surrounds I'd use 12ga... but if cost is an object, 14ga would probably be fine.

    Great Audiophile Grade Wire
I was using 16 AWG wire, doubled-up in as an adhoc bi-wire setup before buying this wire. The 14/4 AWG wire is so much better. Even though the wire length isn't that long, I did notice a slight increase in bass extension going to the 14/4 AWG. When I created my adhoc bi-wire setup using the 16/2 AWG for my speakers (Wharfedale Diamond 9.2s) I noticed a slight increase in treble extension, so, if you have bi-wireable speakers, but haven't bi-wired them yet, you'll probably notice a positive difference going to the 14/4.

The nice thing about this wire is the outer jacker keeps everything nice and tidy and it has good flexibility. Definitely well worth the money, and then some. I haven't run this wire through any walls, yet, so I can't comment on how easy or hard it is to pull. Also, if you're looking for extremely flexible jackets, both inner and outer, just be aware that the inner jackets a bit stiff. Still, to get super flexible jackets you'll pay a decent bit more, and most likely also buy yourself a bunch of Voodoo marketing garbage that has no basis in real science.

The rating of 9/10 is due to the somewhat stiff inner jackets. Overall, an excellent buy.

PROS: Thick, nice outer jacket, inexpensive

CONS: Inner jackets a little stiff

    Slight quality problem
I historically have never had a problem with anything from monoprice in terms of quality. This wire however I discovered that the pvc coating on the red conductor had spots where the wire was exposed. I found this by cutting and removing the outer jacket on the right spot by chance, who knows how much of this is actually exposed throughout the entire spool. It was already a difficult run to make without finding this out mid install, good thing it's a low voltage wire with an outer insulator.

    PROS: Price

    CONS: Quality

    Good wire for the price
This wire allowed me it hookup 2 rear speakers in a home theater systems without having to run 2 seperate wires to the receiver. Very helpful.
I did a test for resistance from the reciever to the farthest speaker, which was about 60 feet of wire, and it tested around a 0.2ohms.
Wire was easy to run, flexible but still strong.

    Great for bi-wiring
You can buy a 10 ft Monster bi-wire cable for $85 (which I did in the past, and you'll need 2 for a pair of speakers) , or you can buy this 100 ft cable with Monoprice banana plugs for a fraction of the price. It took less than 30 minutes to prepare the cable to bi-wire my stereo system, a Denon AVR-2805 receiver and a pair of B&W 802-S3 speakers + B&W ASW650 subwoofer (also connected with Monoprice coax cable). I will never buy a pre-made cable again.

    PROS: - Build quality
    - Price

CONS: - Thin individual wires can pinch your skin

    Completely Satisfied
This cable is excellent and is performing well in an in-wall stereo installation. Works well with monoprice banana plugs too.

What It, Got It, Get It.
I got this 4 conductor wire so I could double-up on the speaker connections. I use to think that just any old two wires were good enough for speaker connections. But then I used the dreaded Google search and opened Pandora's box. Who knew that there was an entire science (or maybe it's a cult) devoted to all things involving speaker wires.

Long story short, I found some advice on internet and decided that double 14 AWG connections was good enough for me. So here I am writing about it. Good luck with your project.
