Way to strip the outer layer of insulation without compromising the inner layers?
A shopper
on Feb 25, 2020
BEST ANSWER: Best way I did it is to use sharp scissors. Open the tips slightly. You slip the lower under the housing. You can then hold the casing behind the scissors. Then just slide the scissors along the casing and it will slice the casing. Just be careful not to point the tips downwards into the wires.

I used a straight knife to cut the outer white cover, going in the direction of the black and red wire, actually between the two to guide the blade. Then a normal splicer tool to take covers off the speaker wire.

Use either a zippy style letter opener or thread snip sewing scissors at the open end of the cable. Work the sharp blade of either tool and the insulated outer cover peels open effortlessly.

Nick the edge of the sheathing. Then, pull the string down as far as you want to expose the wires. Cut the sheathing at that point (and the string).

Are the conductors twisted in the outer jacket, or mostly parallel?

No, the two wires are not twisted. Given their use as speaker wires, there would be no benefit to twisted pairs.

Twisting the pairs reduces the inductance/cross talk of any noise they would encounter along the ~50' runs through my attic.
I have a master's degree in electrical engineering and I can tell you that's not the case. With a 50 ft run your biggest concern will be insertion loss from the cable. If your speakers have a nominal 4 ohm load , then consider 10 awg wires instead.
They are not twisted. Generally parallel but they can move within the outer jacket.

Is the cable shielded. I plan to run this in conduit will I get humming or interference problems?
Henry Y
on Dec 3, 2017
BEST ANSWER: If you're using it for speaker cable; i.e., from power amp to speakers, you don't need to worry about interference because the s/n ratio is so low that it would be imperceptible no matter how good of a system you have. Running it in conduit should be fine, but I wouldn't run it in conduit WITH electrical lines.

Is this wire good for in wall installation for home theater?
A shopper
on Mar 20, 2022
BEST ANSWER: Yes. The "CL2" Rating identifies that the cable jacket is fire rated per Article 725 of the National Electric Code. It stands for "Class 2 Remote-Control, Signaling, and Power-Limited Circuits" cable, which indicates that the cable is suitable for in-wall installation and use for certain low-voltage applications such as In Wall Rated Speaker Wire. Additionally, the 12AWG is a relatively large gauge wire for in wall speaker wire applications.

Depends on if you are wiring in series or parallel. Google "speaker wiring in series versus parallel" and see what comes up. How you do it depends on the Ohms of your speaker and what your what your amplifier can handle. Technically, yes - you can do just what you are saying, as long as you manage the ohm load within what your amp / speaker combo can handle.

Really depends on what level of clarity and overall performance you're going for. Best practice would be seperate twisted pair two conductor cables. If your system is on the low end there likely wouldn't be an audible difference but in a resolving system you'll want to keep the channels isolated.

The 2 conductors are twisted within the cable jacket so the cable does not lay flat. If you expect to walk on the cable under the carpet you may see the carpet raised slightly.

Voltage is minimal (probably why ratings are not generally quoted) and totally dependent upon the amplifier power.

I need to run the wire outside to my speakers on the patio will this wire work when it is run across exterior wall in the sun?

BEST ANSWER: I wouldn't. Spend the extra on outdoor rated cabling for the length you need or run it inside conduit

Would you recommend these speaker wires for car audio?
A shopper
on Aug 9, 2017
BEST ANSWER: I don't see why not. The speaker wire quality is excellent. The CL2 rating may be too much for a car, and could possibily get less expensive speaker wires for that purpose. But if you have a ton left over, I don't see why not.

I received this wire and noticed there is a very thin thread within the shielding jacket in addition to the speaker wires. What is the thin thread?

Looking for speaker wires to re-wire my surround system. I have an Onkyo receiver and speakers. What size AWG is recommended? I am concerned that the wires will be too thick to plug into the speakers. Ron

hello what wire AWG is better for 8 ohms speaker ?

BEST ANSWER: Speaker wire AWG is independent of coil impedance.. Larger wire has lower impedance, which makes it closer to the ideal of having no effect on the system.

BEST ANSWER: Hi Tony. I really don't know but, In my business I do know that there are not many products that can stand up to the harsh power of the sun however...….that wire is the ultimate. I have been using it for over 25 years. There is a version that has four conductor so you could run a single run to multiple speakers and that way you can pull just two wires out each speaker location. I hope that helps you.

Finding your way
It's very difficult for a novice to find parts on your Web site. Even your searches do not display all of the "options" available. You almost have to "know" the path to finding the right parts. Your video of the searches is not up to date and not applicable. I was looking for Wall connectors for speakers.

High strand count, GREAT cable!
Using the high-quality #2817 CL2 rated 12 gauge speaker wire, I sheath it in TechFlex, terminate with locking banana plugs and/or Deadbolt braided ends, and seal w/heat shrink tubing for a reliable, good-looking and high-performing speaker cable.
Finished speaker cables from #2817 product.

Always a great price with exellent quality.
Really nice thick and shiny strands. Great quality copper.
Heavy jacket does not get snagged and is in wall rated. Used extensively for in wall installs.
Great all around cable.
Works great as raw materials for custom cables as well.
10/10 would recommend.

Scraping reveals just pure copper, measures to 12AWG, strands are pretty fine and insulation seems good. What's not to like?
