4ft Component AV Cable for Apple all 30-pin iPhone®, iPad®, and iPod®
Do you want to play back your iPhone's video content on your television? Monoprice has you covered with this 30-Pin To Component Audio/Video Adapter Cable.
This cable plugs into the 30-pin Dock Connector on your iPad®, iPhone®, or iPod®. The output end is a standard set of Component Video RCA connectors (YPbPr plus stereo audio). There is also a micro USB connector, which allows the cable to serve double-duty as a charge/sync cable for your Apple iOS® device.

PROS: Easy to Connect, Great high quality sound and picture.
I also have the 30-pin to HDMI cable, this mirrors the iPad screen to the TV screen, but doesn't work for video. Note that this is not a technical problem, but the result of an administrative decision by TCM not to support HDMI.
So, with two cables from Monoprice, I have a working solution.
PROS: It works.
PROS: Works like a charm. Very happy
CONS: I had to figure out out to get the right setting in "IPad settings" and for some reason it only worked on my TV component 1 not Component 2
I have a few ripped & purchased films on my iPad, which look fantastic on TV with this cable. I also have a Netflix streaming subscription and together with hotel free wireless, I can access a ton of content from that as well. I even watch YouTube videos! With an external charger/USB cable (available from Monoprice as well), you are set for hours, though you'll still get in a few movies without the charger on straight iPad battery power.
The only problem I encountered was Amazon Instant Video: Sound works fine, but video is blocked by the provider. It's the fault of Amazon being paranoid about its content, and no flaw of this cable. Boo Amazon!
If you have an iPad and travel, get this now!
PROS: Works great with iPad.
PROS: To my surprise this 30 pin to Component AV Cable also splits off with an additional very short cable mini usb port. This gives you the option to also be charging your i-product while it is connected to the 30 pin/Component cable. Ingenious idea! (Charging cable info listed in my 'cons'.)
CONS: This cable Will Not Charge your i-product while in use. An additional cable is needed. (Monoprice PID: 8640 - 3ft USB 2.0 A Male to Micro 5pin Male 28/24AWG Cable w/ Ferrite Core (Gold Plated) for less than $2). In short, NO Cons to speak of. For all of us that don't know tech lingo a 30 pin connects to all Apple or "i" products with the exception of the new iphone 5.
This is from a ZDnet post:
Customers of the iPad VGA Adapter may be confused with its actual capabilities. Unlike a MacBook or a Mac desktop machine, the iPad with a VGA Adapter won't let the iPad mirror its screen to an external display. At the same time, there are interesting new applications that let Mac users put a part of their desktop on an iPad. On his blog, developer Matt Gemmell reminds readers of the confusion. It's not like Steve Jobs' keynotes where the entire iPad screen is shown on the overhead projector. Instead, it's all about the app showing what it wants to show.
Apps that want to support external display via the adapter must explicitly do so the developer has to write code to support it. There are some standard iPhone OS-supplied APIs which will automatically do the right thing (such as video playback via standard controllers), but generally you won’t see anything on your external display unless the app you’re using has taken steps to put something there. That's the “bad” (though surely not surprising) news.
Before ordering the micro USB cable to go along with this... Be sure you get product: 8642 and not the wrong connector if you want to charge the iPad or idevice you plug into it. I contacted chat first and they guy recommended the incorrect cable. I got a refund for the cable but gotta wait a few extra days to get the correct cable since it was a weekend.
This is the correct cable: 8642
Also be aware that just because you plug your iPad or iPhone etc into this connector that it will only play on certain apps that allow the video out. I mainly use it for netflix on my iPad 2 or iPhone 4 which works great. But the iPad 2 wont play Amazon Prime videos using the cable because Amazon Prime blocks the video out. You can jailbreak your device and buy a $2 app to get around that. But wont look as good :-(
PROS: Way cheaper than Apple cable
CONS: Wish it had regular USB plug at end instead of the micro (makes no sense why they would use this?)
PROS: all good
PROS: it works perfect 1/2 the cost as the brand name product. I can find no flaws.
As advertised and as usual Monoprice is the place to shop.
