can I use this same cable connected to audio amp for music (MP3) (not watching video MP4))? IOW, connect to two red/white audio outputs to the AMP?

BEST ANSWER: Yes you can use it for just audio no problem. The plugs can pass both audio and video so just don't use the RGB portion and enjoy your music.

    Awesome product
This Component AV Cable for Apple iPhone®, iPad®, and iPod® works great. I have this same cable from Apple. It works just the same. The only thing different from the Apple cable is that is doesn’t have a power cord attached to charge your devise. This new unit has a Usb connector if you want to charge your Iphone while watching movies. I used a 10ft usb cable Pid 8642 and connected it to the usb connector and into my usb wall socket. This way I am able to watch my movies off my phone and charge my phone at the same time.

PROS: Easy to Connect, Great high quality sound and picture.

    CONS: None

Used the cable with an iPad
I wanted to stream video from an iPad to a SONY TV. I have the Turner Classic Movies (TCM) app and I am a subscriber to TCM by cable. Ideally, I would use the 30-pin to HDMI cable, but this is blocked by HDCP (high definition copy protection). Fortunately, my TV has a component connection (5 RCA cables, three for video and two for stereo audio) and this works with the TCM app.

I also have the 30-pin to HDMI cable, this mirrors the iPad screen to the TV screen, but doesn't work for video. Note that this is not a technical problem, but the result of an administrative decision by TCM not to support HDMI.

So, with two cables from Monoprice, I have a working solution.

    PROS: It works.

    CONS: None

Well worth it. Not really much time to get it set up as long as you try different connection options right away

PROS: Works like a charm. Very happy

CONS: I had to figure out out to get the right setting in "IPad settings" and for some reason it only worked on my TV component 1 not Component 2

    Great For Travelers
I bought this because I do a lot of traveling and the options for video in most hotels is pretty dismal. I always have my iPad with me anyway and together with this AV cable and the in-room HDTVs, I now have many more entertainment options.

I have a few ripped & purchased films on my iPad, which look fantastic on TV with this cable. I also have a Netflix streaming subscription and together with hotel free wireless, I can access a ton of content from that as well. I even watch YouTube videos! With an external charger/USB cable (available from Monoprice as well), you are set for hours, though you'll still get in a few movies without the charger on straight iPad battery power.

The only problem I encountered was Amazon Instant Video: Sound works fine, but video is blocked by the provider. It's the fault of Amazon being paranoid about its content, and no flaw of this cable. Boo Amazon!

If you have an iPad and travel, get this now!

    PROS: Works great with iPad.

    CONS: None.

I am a tech novice and my intended goal is to find ways of entertainment without paying for cable tv any longer. This 30 pin to Components Cable has opened a whole new world of entertainment for me using my i-phone 4. It allows me to view Netflix and stream Pandora (with unlimited cell phone data plan) thru an old Dell LCD Monitor TV that used to be my son's computer monitor. I Highly Recommend that you also purchase along with this 30 pin to component the cable which will keep your phone charged while in use. (Specs. listed in Cons). In short, I just can't say enough about this product or Monoprice's customer service and prices. They have always been extremely patient with my inexperience in technology and always have a solution to my dilemmas. Excellent! Awesome! Stoked! * * * * * * * * * *

PROS: To my surprise this 30 pin to Component AV Cable also splits off with an additional very short cable mini usb port. This gives you the option to also be charging your i-product while it is connected to the 30 pin/Component cable. Ingenious idea! (Charging cable info listed in my 'cons'.)

CONS: This cable Will Not Charge your i-product while in use. An additional cable is needed. (Monoprice PID: 8640 - 3ft USB 2.0 A Male to Micro 5pin Male 28/24AWG Cable w/ Ferrite Core (Gold Plated) for less than $2). In short, NO Cons to speak of. For all of us that don't know tech lingo a 30 pin connects to all Apple or "i" products with the exception of the new iphone 5.

    Video output from iPad
Video output from an iPad is a function of software
This is from a ZDnet post:

Customers of the iPad VGA Adapter may be confused with its actual capabilities. Unlike a MacBook or a Mac desktop machine, the iPad with a VGA Adapter won't let the iPad mirror its screen to an external display. At the same time, there are interesting new applications that let Mac users put a part of their desktop on an iPad. On his blog, developer Matt Gemmell reminds readers of the confusion. It's not like Steve Jobs' keynotes where the entire iPad screen is shown on the overhead projector. Instead, it's all about the app showing what it wants to show.

Apps that want to support external display via the adapter must explicitly do so the developer has to write code to support it. There are some standard iPhone OS-supplied APIs which will automatically do the right thing (such as video playback via standard controllers), but generally you won’t see anything on your external display unless the app you’re using has taken steps to put something there. That's the “bad” (though surely not surprising) news.

I already tested the cable out and it works just like the one I already own from Apple :-)

Before ordering the micro USB cable to go along with this... Be sure you get product: 8642 and not the wrong connector if you want to charge the iPad or idevice you plug into it. I contacted chat first and they guy recommended the incorrect cable. I got a refund for the cable but gotta wait a few extra days to get the correct cable since it was a weekend.

This is the correct cable: 8642

Also be aware that just because you plug your iPad or iPhone etc into this connector that it will only play on certain apps that allow the video out. I mainly use it for netflix on my iPad 2 or iPhone 4 which works great. But the iPad 2 wont play Amazon Prime videos using the cable because Amazon Prime blocks the video out. You can jailbreak your device and buy a $2 app to get around that. But wont look as good :-(

PROS: Way cheaper than Apple cable

CONS: Wish it had regular USB plug at end instead of the micro (makes no sense why they would use this?)

    Apple 30 cable
Got it VERY fast, and it works as advertised. Be advised that this does not make everything you see on your Ipad show up on your display. Only apps that send video/photo will show.

    PROS: all good

    CONS: none.

    great product

PROS: it works perfect 1/2 the cost as the brand name product. I can find no flaws.

As advertised and as usual Monoprice is the place to shop.

We use the cable connect our iPad to the TV in our bedroom and watch movies from Netflix. Works perfectly and allows us to watch web content (Netflix/ Youtube) on a TV that we otherwise would not be able.

    PROS: Works great!

    CONS: None
