    CAT5e Retractable Cable - RJ45 to RJ45 - 3.5 Ft

You'll never deal with a tangled RJ45 cable again when you use this Cat5e Retractable Cable from Monoprice!

This flat, 3.5-foot long Ethernet cable is wound around a central spring-loaded spool. Pulling on the two connector ends unwinds the cable, while the internal ratchet action keeps the cable extracted to the length you want. Pull the cable ends to their limit and the cable will easily wind itself back around the spool, thereby preventing tangles.

The spool assembly measures about 1.4" in diameter and is about 0.6" thick.

True gigabit ethernet speeds, small, cheap
I ordered this with some scepticism as other retractable ethernet cables I have can only achieve 10/100 Mb/s speeds (i.e. 10MB/s slow ethernet). With this monoprice cable, I achieved speeds in excess of 114MB/s (i.e. 912Mb/s)with overhead for error checking bits this is a full gigabit per second. Tested between two Macs running Mavericks 10.9.4, one an SSD equipped MBA, the other a fusion drive equipped iMac.

Why would you want an ethernet cable in 2014? I travel on business, some hotels still have ethernet connections, and even those with wifi might have a wired ethernet connection that is faster than their wifi.

PROS: True gigabit speeds, compact, cheap.

    CONS: None so far.

    Small and High Quality
As the title says, these are the smallest of these retractable cables I've found and much higher quality than most others I've tried. The only ones I found there had better build quality were much larger in size. I've purchased about 25 of these and haven't had any issues.

    PROS: small, good quality, cheap

CONS: they wen't out of stock once when I needed more, but no issues with the actual product.

    Great cable
These were used for a conference table in the office to allow participants to connect and they have held up very well. They help keep all the cables neat and untangled

    Brilliant!
Like others, it turns out, I was a little concerned that this really.... REALLY.....skinny cable would slow down my connections, but I see zero evidence of that over this short of a distance. The obvious advantage being that it's so flexible that it can be used for very short runs with one or more sharp turns without any concern about shorting it out, as I was with my 6" and 12" patch cables. It uses a ratchet system that locks-on every 3" or so, but then releases when you extend the cables again. Very nifty, and highly recommended. Especially at this remarkably modest price!

PROS: Tidies-up your installation, very flexible, nicely made, modestly priced, great service.

CONS: Probably best for light-duty home use only.

    Work fine at gigabit speeds
These pack nicely and work fine. They're not super long, but if you've got one in your bag, it'll occasionally save you from packing/unpacking a longer cable.

    Nice geeky stocking stuffers.

    PROS: Work at gigabit speeds

    Easy storage (retractable)

    CONS: Only 3.5' long
