Questions and Answers
About the "two types", you may be thinking of crossover cables. These days you'll find most all devices, especially routers, auto detect whether a cable is wired as crossover or straight through, so you're good either way.
It's also easy to carry a 10 or 20 ft length in a compact roll in a travel bag.
PROS: Flat construction makes it easy to run and hide in tight spaces along walls/floorboards. Shorter lengths can roll neatly into travel bags.
CONS: Easier to damage than standard round cable
White option would be useful in some situations.
