Will this work to play an unmodified Atari 2600 on a flat screen?
New User U

BEST ANSWER: If you mean an original Atari 2600 with an RF video out, then no, you would need to get a modulator that converts to composite video.
If you are talking about the newer 2600 'retro' systems that have come out in the last couple of years, then yes.
I am currently using this item to connect my Nintendo Wii (~2010). It has been working very well. The only issue was I had to select the 720p setting to get a consistent video stream. All new TVs will up convert 720p no problem.

I am trying to use this to book my N64 to my 50 inch Element Roku flat screen t.v but it keeps giving me signal. The input is right and everything seems plugged in right but nothing. Does my T.V need to have a certain setting or requirement? I am also using HDMI if that helps.

BEST ANSWER: You may have to also go to your Settings Menu on your Roku TV to activate or enable the desired HDMI Input
that you've connected the N64 to. If the input was not activated during initial setup. if not mistaken, when setting up the Roku television, it asks you if you have devices connected to Inputs on the TV, if you select NOTHING for any of the Inputs, then i think it makes that Input unavailable until you activate it in the Settings Menu. Check that option as well.

I'm the composite input, with a audio/video cable from a VCR and the HMDI output to my TV it works great. There are two switch on the unit, one control the HMDI output switches from 720 to 1080, the other switch marked (Switch) switches the input s-video to HMDI, try pushing this switch to change the input. If you can change to a composite and see if that works. Lots of luck, hope this help you.

The N64 seems to have the Composite Audio and Video connection, the red, white, and yellow plugs.
Once you make the connection with the HDMI Cable to your TV via the Converter, push the Input Selector
button on the device to choose Composite A/V input. Once you get to the Composite A/V input selection,
you should see and hear the desired connection from your N64. Hopefully this information helps.

BEST ANSWER: Yes It is. In fact that is what I use this converter for. I have my Saturn, Genesis, Sega Master System, Atari Jaguar, and SNES all connected to a large AV multi out unit and the monitor s-video out from that goes into one of these converters. The HDMI out from the converter then goes into my AV receiver and then back to the TV via HDMI. So I essentially have over a half dozen retro systems all connected at once and using just one HDMI input on the TV. Been using one for over 4 years daily for this and never had an issue with it.

My experience using a sega genesis that was modified with S-Video which is 480i Output(4:3) is that it DOES NOT preserve that setting - therefore the top and bottom of the screen is chopped off.

The composite port on the TV only supports 480i resolution, so no matter what you are converting to that port, it won't be high resolution. This device is for going the opposite direction than what you want.

BEST ANSWER: NO it will not do this. In fact pretty much all images from the HDMI out are presented in 16:9 widescreen. You have to make sure that your TV will allow you to change the aspect ratio manually from HDMI input sources to get the games to display properly again. My first LED TV did not allow me to change the aspect ration on digital video sources. Now my newer one does.

Will it merge video signal from hdmi input, AND audio signal from RCA inputs then send the combined signals to hdmi ouput? This is the case for karaoke video plus microphone audio coming from mixer.

We are changing our projector at our church. We have everything wired as s-video as of now due to the expense we do not want to change our cabling out. But the new projector we purchased has HDMI input. Is this all I need to go on the projector end from s-video to hdmi?

I would like the output to have the audio from the RCA inputs to be mixed in with the video from the HDMI input. Does it to that? Or does it only mix it into the signals from the RCA and SVIDEO inputs?

Hi, I believe I need the opposite of this product. I have an older amp for my home theatre system that does not have an HDMI port. I need a converter that will take the HDMI output from the cable box and allow me to use my cables for my amp. Is there a product for that?

Had a problem with audio but fixed it
I am using this to hook a VCR into a 4K HDR Samsung TV.
I could not get the audio to work with my TV. I forgot that I had turned on HDR for the input I was using. Once I turned off HDR for that input the audio now works
I wish the manual would say to check for this

perfect for getting that old vcr hooked up to a newer tv
I had handful of out of print vhs tapes (mostly music and music video compilations) that were just sitting in a box in my basement. I thought it would be fun to watch them again. This is exactly what I needed to get them hooked up to my less than a year old smart tv. It works perfectly and was easy to get going.

Awesome
Works great for old game consoles. I used it for Ataris that have been modified for S-video with a Samsung LED for monitor. I tried the cheaper one on Amazon and it would only output black and white. All of the S-Video to HDMI upscalers on Amazon are the same product under several different unknown brand names.

Does a great job!
I purchased this to connect my old VHS video recorder/player to my new(er) Sony Bravia TVs that only have HDMI & component video inputs. Contrary to certain other reviews, this box performs great, and exactly as described. First, it correctly converts both 4:3 and 16:9 material and preserves the original aspect ratio. All my old VHS 4:3 tapes play perfectly on my widescreen TVs as 4:3. It DOES NOT stretch 4:3 video to 16:9 !! It displays 4:3 material correctly with appropriate black bars on the sides. The key is whether or not **your TV** supports 4:3 aspect ratio and whether or not you have the correct settings in your TV. My older KDL Bravia has individual settings for each HDMI input, so I could set the input for this converter to 4:3. My newer XBR Bravia auto-detects the aspect ratio on all HDMI inputs and it works correctly without any need to do any settings. Also, the video quality is excellent - actually better than I expected, even with composite (aka CVBS) video.

Performs as Described
This device fulfills the job description, but as has been previously commented, the instructions are not as clear as they should be. Specially, it should be mentioned that the unlabeled switch is for selecting for the desired type of output, e.g., S-video, among the formats available. If you haven't selected the right format, you won't get a picture and may see a "no signal" graphic. There is noticeable latency when switching, so allow a second or two before switching to the next protocol. (The switch cycles through the available options, so if you happen to go past the one you want, you have to go through the whole sequence again, though that doesn't take long.)
