DVI & R/L Stereo Audio to HDMI® Converter

Use your giant new HDTV as a computer monitor with this DVI + Audio to HDMI® converter!

Many newer computers have HDMI output, but if you have an older computer with just DVI, you can easily convert the DVI video, plus the stereo audio, outputs into an HDMI signal that can be displayed on your large-screen HDMI TV. This simple box requires no special software. Just hook the DVI output from the computer into the converter's input (DVI-I digital only), add an audio from the sound card output into the R/L RCA input jacks, then connect the HDMI output from the converter into your TV.

The converter supports video resolutions up to 1080p (1920 x 1080) and has a video amplifier bandwidth of 225 MHz/2.25 Gbps per channel (6.75 Gbps total). It produces 2-channel, uncompressed LPCM digital audio from the 2-channel analog input. The required 5 VDC power adapter is included.

Can this be used in reverse? I want to connect an HDMI source (chromecast) to a TV with only DVI/Component audio connections.
    Sebastian W on Jan 19, 2017
BEST ANSWER: No, the conversion only goes in one direction. There are other solutions that go in the reverse direction that I stumbled upon during my research. Just Google on HDMI DVI converters and make sure you look at the input / outputs.

    Broken shortly after purchase
Worked as advertised straight out of the box. Easy setup. After a week of using it randomly started flickering. The only solution is to power cycle the device by unplugging it. It worked for about 2 months then died. Now when it is plugged in it just flickers.

PROS: Worked as advertised straight out of the box. Easy setup.

CONS: After a week of using it randomly started flickering. The only solution is to power cycle the device by unplugging it. It worked for about 2 months then died. Now when it is plugged in it just flickers.

    6 months - still perfect
I love it - it works - and it's one of only a small few devices of its kind.

PROS: Had unit for 6 months, and it still works perfectly. Couldn't be happier.

CONS: It is warm to the touch - always - when powered up (which is all the time) this unit is very warm (arguably 'hot') to the touch.

    Works Great
Works as advertised. Hooked up my laptop to HDTV. Supports 720p and 1080p as well.

Wanted to hook up my old MacBook to my receiver/TV but wanted to hook video and audio through HDMI. The old MacBooks had mini-DVI which is video only, and obviously a headphone input. The newer macs have a mini-displayport which supports both audio and video, sucks for me. Did a lot of research though, and luckily this was the device I needed to hook up my old Mac to my TV, both audio and video, through HDMI. Cheapest price on the net too.

PROS: Use older computers and laptops with HDMI capable tv's and receivers.

    CONS: None

I went through 2 of these and neither of them worked properly. The sound would also work, but it would only sometimes give me video. In the rare instances video was present, it was always a bad resolution and the OS gave me no other options to change it. I swapped it out for a cheap dvi to hdmi adapter/dongle I had laying around and that worked perfectly and gave me any resolution I desired. I have to plug in the audio separately now, which is a minor inconvenience, but it would have been great if this device worked as promised. I lost some money, because they didn't refund my shipping (which is roughly 20% of the cost), so ultimately I'd recommend you avoid this all together.

    Exceeded My Expectations
I was quite surprised and pleased by the operation of the product. It was the first time I tried using a converter due to the lack of a HDMI output with my older Desktop PC. And it worked like a champ. It does not overheat like I have read in reviews from other web sites. I also needed an audio switch box to complete my installation since I need the audio output to go to either the PC Speakers or the LCD TV.

    Computer to Big Screen
It works at 1080p without any glitching and is simple to connect. There is no configuring so it's very simple to operate, just need to locate an outlet for the brick power supply.

PROS: This converter works perfectly. I have a computer with a high-end video card unfortunately, most gamer video cards, like mine, have no HDMI connector. This is the perfect solution.

CONS: The converter is a bit large in size and needs an external power source.

PROS: Quick delivery. All went well

CONS: This review! Hard to find - pain in the neck

DVI & R/L Stereo Audio to HDMI Converter
Great product. We bought one for work and I'm getting ready to by my third device to use at the school where I volunteer my IT services. The powers to be bought 40" LCD TVs for a number of classrooms, unfortunately the devices do not have computer (VGA) connections. The product let us take the DVI and audio output from the computer, combine them, and make the HDMI connection to the TV's. The product has bee used with a 15', 25', and (I think the one at work is a) 50' connections. This next purchase will be for a 50' HDMI connection - I'll let you know if I have problems.

PROS: Great device for connecting old computer technology (none HDMI) to new display devices (LCD TVs).

CONS: Wire management will always be a pet pea of mine, (I don't know how, but) wish the device could draw power from the VGA, but THAT IS JUST ME.

    Great service from Monoprice
I have not yet determined if my few audio problems are because of this device, or the other equipment/media I am using.

On some media, the audio seems to get louder and software, but other media the volume is consistent, which indicates it is probably a media problem. I am using VLC player, and it appears that if I fast forward, it lowers the audio then brings it back up slowly. I am looking a the VLC documentation to see how that might work.

PROS: This is my second DVI converter. The first item had a problem. Monoprice was great at diagnosing that the box was bad (it happens sometimes) and shipped out a replacement immediately. And Monoprice was great at providing me with a shipping label to make it very easy to return the bad product. Monoprice is really great at dealing with problems.

The product seems to work as advertized.

CONS: Every once in a while, some weird media file get played unintentionally, which shuts of the audio, requiring a power down of both my computer and the DVI converter and a fresh startup to get the audio back. It doesn't happen often, but I suspect some media files are sending an Audio Shutoff command to the device.

However, I am satisfied with this device.
