I use a computer to drive a multi-projector system through a matrix switcher. The projector's native resolution is XGA (1024x768), but since they can receive a 1080P or 720P signal and downscale it to display it, sometimes the computer or laptop providing input to the matrix switcher will decide to output a higher resolution signal than is needed. Can this device make it so that the projectors are read as only capable of displaying of XGA and not anything else?

Will not fix all your HDMI Woes
This was the most useful – it does not require external power. This is extremely handy. Works mostly as advertised, was able to use most of the features. However, it did not work for what I purchased it for, which was to connect my mac(s) to my TV via a new HDMI 2.0a receiver. It simply does not work – there is an exceptional issue concerning this new receiver and all of the mini displayport to HDMI adapters and cables (including some purchased here). There is simply no image. Had to go through a thunderbolt dock to get HDMI.

PROS: Self powered. (i.e. does not need external power)

CONS: Does not work with mini displayport to HDMI adapters

    Solved dreaded Samsung TV issued
There seems to be an issue with Samsung flat screen TV's and HDMI handshake issues with some devices. Almost every Blu Ray movie that I used would get a format not supported error on the TV. All of the movie previews and the movie menu on the Blu Ray disc would work, but when the main feature would start, the screen would flash and the error would come up on the screen while the audio played as normal.

I put this device inline after the Blu Ray player and before the A/V receiver. Works great. Now all Blu Ray movies play without issue. I had first tried this device between the A/V receiver and the TV. This did not work. All of the blue lights on the Dr. HDMI unit would be very dimly lit at the same time and no picture would output to the TV.

Just to check the unit I put it on another TV that just had a cable box to the TV HDMI connection. The unit fired right up and just position "1" lit up very brightly. That lead me to believe that the unit was functioning. I just had to figure out where to put it inline with my main setup.

PROS: Solved my problem. Monoprice as the reseller is top notch as always.

CONS: No instructions came with the unit. Found their website. That helped a little. Emailed the company with my above listed installation problem. Weeks later I have yet to get a response from the manufacturer.

    Worked perfect!
    Great product, works great!

PROS: This product works perfectly for what I needed. I had some handshake issues between my DirecTv box, receiver and projector. Just plugging this in solved my issue. Now I can use one source for my projector.

    Fixed my handshak issues
I bought this because I have a dual monitor media PC hooked up to my Pioneer receiver. Every time I turn the receiver off and back on the screens go crazy. Icon's all over t he place. Monitor 2 is monitor 1 and back and forth. I have been working on this for over a year. I have tried 3 HDMI switches. 1 of the 3 worked for 6 months. I ordered a replacement and did not work like the previous switch. Some online site told me about this Dr. HDMI. I bought one and it took about 10 minutes to set up. No instructions. A few switch settings and a few reboots and it works perfectly!

PROS: Quick fix, easy install, small package no power adapter needed.

CONS: No instructions. I could have gone to the web site but was too lazy

Dr. HDMI Solved my handshake blues
After upgrading to a Samsung 60' Smart TV, I started experiencing handshake issues with blank screens or screens with artifacts. My system consists of my HP computer linked by HDMI to an NAD 757 AVR and output to the Samsung TV by HDMI . Tried many startup combinations with delayed startup of AVR, Computer etc to no avail. Tried active HDMI cables....still no relief. Finally inserted DR. HDMI dongle between AVR and TV and handshake issues are now resolved

    PROS: Works as advertised

CONS: Included instruction manual is pitiful. Even online manual is cryptic. Thankfully the unit is simple to operate and essentially set itself up.

When I upgraded my first generation Apple TV to the new version, announced in Sept, 2015, the HDMI connection to my Pioneer receiver stopped working. Found an article on-line that indicated that the communications between the TV and the Apple TV over the HDMI connection may be the issue. The recommendation was to install the DR HDMI device in-line. I simply plugged in the device and everything worked.

    PROS: Easy to use

    CONS: A bit pricy

    Fixed my handshaking problem instantly
My ancient cable company-supplied DVR has had terrible problems connecting to a new AV receiver and new 4K television via HDMI. I had to resort to an elaborate sequence of on-offs on-offs to get everything working together. The problem smelled like a handshaking issue. I popped in this unit between DVR and receiver, and my problem was gone. Now, for the first time, my system works as it is supposed to work.

The unit is tiny, only 2 inches long, and comes with only a USB cable to connect to a computer (I guessI haven't tried it). You will need an extra HDMI cable, obviously. There are two buttons that allow you to select any of 8 settings that control the output. All the power I need comes over HDMI, although Monoprice "recommends" a 5V AC power adapter. Presumably this is necessary to use the HDMI amplifier feature that is advertised on the package. The things lights up with bright blue lights when engaged, so I have to keep it out of sight.

Since I have only used it for 4 hours I cannot comment on durability. But wow, how nice not to have to power up/power down repeatedly just to watch a tv show.

PROS: - Works exactly as advertised to correct my handshaking problem.
    - No external power required.
    - Essentially no setup was required for my purpose.

CONS: - Pricey, maybe, except that it works and that it probably does way more stuff than I need.
    - No documentation, but maybe this is unnecessary for most things. If you need it to do something more advanced then I imagine you'll figure it out what to do pretty easily.

    Saves the day again
Have an extended display in windows using the hdbaset extender kit with multiple displays daisy chained and the extended displays are inconsistently swapping locations and resolutions along with their display number. Plugged it in between computer and the extender and no more issues,. The extended displays can be turned off/on, disconnected, etc with the computer not detecting it and freaking out.

    PROS: Comes with usb cable

CONS: Does not come with usb powersupply

Solved my LONGstanding HDMI handshake issue I didn't even know I had.
I searched the discussion boards for months to find a fix for my intermittent HDMI issue, and I was on the verge of getting rid of my 3 yr old Samsung 4K TV. The problem seemed to start when I ditched cable and started using streaming services like Roku and Android. There was no way I was going back to cable, so I was desperate to find out why I was having HDMI problems. That's when I learned about all the different variations of HDMI, and more importantly what a handshake was. After focusing my efforts on this issue, I came across a post recommending Dr. HDMI as a fix. I figured, what do I have to lose, I'm already considering getting rid of the TV and switching brands. To my delight, the moment I hooked up my (2) Dr. HDMI (one for each device Roku/Android) my problem disappeared. I still don't know EXACTLY why it worked, but IT DID! Until the manufacturers decide to address the real problem, I Highly recommend to anyone having HDMI issues.
