Blackbird 4K Series 2-channel HDMI Audio Extractor
This HDMI® 2-Channel Audio Extractor allows you to extract the audio material from your HDMI audio/video source. It then converts the HDMI-based audio to both Digital Optical S/PDIF (Toslink) and analog audio signals for use by an amplifier or AV receiver. It has a bandwidth of 10.2Gbps and therefore supports all High Speed HDMI features, including 4K (3840x2160p) video resolution and 3D video.
- Supports analog stereo and Digital Optical S/PDIF (Toslink®) audio outputs
- Compliant with HDMI, HDCP 1.2, and DVI 1.0
- Supports HDMI audio sampling rates up to 192 kHz
- Supports Digital Optical S/PDIF (Toslink) audio sampling rates up to 192 kHz
- Supports stereo analog audio sampling rates up to 48 kHz
- HDMI supports high-bit-rate (HBR) audio
- No HDMI output connection is required to receive audio at the analog and optical outputs
- Supports built-in audio EDID switching among 2-channel LPCM, TV (external) EDID, and Bitstream audio (raw digital audio)
- Supports 4K (3840x2160p) resolution and 3D video signals

In Zone 2 I use this device to extract the digital audio signal and send to the Onkyo stereo. The balance of the digital signal in Zone 2 is then sent to a Peerless HDS300 Flow3 HDMI wireless transmitter (unfortunately I do not have a hardwire to the TV in Zone 2).
So far as the Blackbird Extractor is concerned, it appears to be working okay. I have it set on full digital signal (up to 5.1) and use an optical digital cord. I did have a problem getting sound when on our Apple TV (2016 version) I switched from music to movies. Once I switched the Apple TV to stereo output from 5.1, all was okay. I need to look into this matter as this may not be the Blackbird Extractor. However I never had that problem with an older extractor so can't yet give it 5 stars.
PROS: Good construction
Optical digital output
CONS: Instructions could go into more detail regarding the 3 settings.

I wanted to feed an old 2-channel audio amp (RCA connections) with sound from an over-the-air TV. The 2010 TV's only available audio output is its Audio Return Channel on its HDMI-1-ARC input, so I fed that to the PID 13349. Nothing made it work - cables, settings, power cycling, firmware. PID 13349's description doesn't mention or exclude ARC as an input. Maybe it was a handshake issue, maybe the TV needed some other HDMI input (rather than its tuner) to produce ARC output, or some other mystery?
FYI I had tried PID 6884, but the TV's optical output is 5.1 channel only, and the 6884 requires a 2-channel optical signal as input.
PROS: It's a great idea
CONS: Unclear if this can use ARC as in input and if it can down-channel to a 2-channel output
