Seeking confirmation: Is this splitter able to pass compressed bitstreams up to 48Khz/16bps using the AC3 (Dolby Digital 5.1) encoding mechanism? I want to spilt the AC3 audio format from a Samsung H3272 DVR between two AVRs

will this splitter work with two devices at the same time? Specifically, will it run a sound bar and a small transmitter that can send an audio signal to my hearing aids at the same time. The transmitter and the hearing aids are paired. simply wondering if it can do both items at the same time.

BEST ANSWER: I bought this splitter from Monoprice and it does not work with my TV ears. I have digital TV ears, and a sound bar. I hooked up the splitter to the output optical on the TV set, and then two outlets from the box, one to the sound bar, and one to my TV ears. I ended up buying a different brand from Fry's Electronics and it works like this one should.
Does this work in reverse? I need 2 inputs to 1 output. one input from dvd and one from tv to one out put to AVR

BEST ANSWER: I'm nit positive since i never tried to use it in that manner. It may work with only one device running along, most certainly would not work with two devices working at the same time.
can this splitter pass through compressed multi channel (5.1) audio ?

    It works.
I tried the passive optical splitter. Not so great. This powered unit seems to work just fine. Running a 2 channel signal through it.
