4x2 Matrix HDMI Switch and Splitter over Cat5e/Cat6 Cable with Remote, Extend Up to 131ft

So you want to watch football, while the kids want to watch their blu-ray of Cars for the 47th time, what do you do? Well, you could buy another blu-ray player, or you could lug the blu-ray player you've got between rooms, or you could just get an HDMI® Matrix switch/splitter from Monoprice!

This 4x2 Matrix HDMI Switch & Splitter is the perfect way to get ultimate flexibility out of your entertainment system. You can plug up to four different HDMI sources (e.g., blu-ray player, DVR, Xbox 360®, PS3®, etc.) into the Matrix and up to two output displays. The Matrix will let you independently switch between the four inputs for each display. Both displays can use the same signal or both can use different signals, simultaneously.

Unlike most Matrix Switch/Splitters, this model also includes the capability of extending either or both output over Cat5e/Cat6 cable up to 40 meters (131 feet) away! This lets you deliver full 1080p signals further than you could with HDMI cable alone (about 25 feet) and saves you money by using cheaper Cat5e/Cat6 cable for the longer distance delivery.

The kit comes with three remote controls, including a main remote for controlling the Matrix directly, and two smaller remotes for controlling it from the room where the Cat5e/Cat6 receivers are located. Additionally, it comes with infrared repeaters, allowing you to control your source devices from the remote location(s). As a bonus, the receivers and/or matrix unit can be controlled with a computer using the RS232 interface.

    • View any of up to 4 sources on either or both of 2 displays
    • Supports High Speed 1080p video
    • Supports HDCP
    • Connect either or both displays directly, using HDMI® cable, or up to 40 meters (131 feet) distant, using Cat5e/Cat6 cable and included receivers
    • Uses ordinary "straight" Cat5e/Cat6 cables (not crossover) wired to the T.568B standard
    • Supports 225 MHz/2.25 Gbps per channel (6.75 Gbps all channel) bandwidth
    • Supports 12-bit per channel (36-bit all channel) deep color
    • Supports uncompressed audio such as LPCM
    • Supports compressed audio such as DTS® Digital, Dolby® Digital, DTS-HD Master Audio™, and Dolby TrueHD™
    • Includes three remote controls to select input devices for each output (one main remote for both outputs and two individual remotes for each output)
    • Select inputs using included remote controls, with switch on front of matrix, with switch on front of receivers, or with a computer using RS232 input
    • Includes infrared emitters to control source devices through remote receivers
    • Gold-plated HDMI connectors
    • CE, FCC, UL (Canadian and US), and RoHS compliant

Note: Monoprice strongly recommends the use of minimum 24 AWG HDMI cables when connecting a device, such as this matrix, between the source and destination devices to ensure minimal signal loss and maximum High Speed signal reliability.

Dont listen to some people on here. Be smarter than what your messing with!
So I actually came back to talk about the issues that some are having. I cannot stress this enough. You need at least a 15 Gbps HDMI cable, for every HDMI connection. Big woop, you can get them for @ $40 at bestbuy or a ton cheaper other places. DO NOT expect this thing to work with crap HDMI cables. I tried all the way up to 15 Gbps HDMI, they are the only ones that worked perfect. Even the 10 Gbps cables had issues. But what I keep reading on here are stupid people that dont read the red print. If your too much of an idiot to figure out why something doesnt work instead of getting mad and returning the product then maybe you need to build a sand castle or something that takes the small brain power that you have, to do. The one thing I hate the most are people that just give up and say a product is crap. I have never had one issue with anything that I have ever gotten from monoprice.

We got this setup for my father in law, using 15 GBps HDMI cables, and cat6 cables. He has the bluray and cable box and sat. box all sending to a t.v. outside. They watch tv outside at night now cause the weather is awesome and everything is working so perfect and looks dang good. I am so happy how perfect this setup was and how easy it was to get it all up and going. I am going to get another system for my house. Thanks so much for everything!!

PROS: This is an amazing product if you know what your doing and how to set it all up.

YOU NEED AT LEAST 15 Gbps HDMI cables all the way around and I used CAT6 cables for the runs. You will need two CAT6 cables for each t.v. run. So if you have two t.v. that you are pushing to, then that would be 4 CAT6 lines that you will need to run.

CONS: I cant find any cons. Only ones that I found were because I was being stupid.

It worked .......Not for the long haul .
Bought it June 2012 for our ballroom project which

was completed Q3 2012. so technically its just 2 years and a few months.

Hotel ballroom ceiling projector is used probably an average of 3 times a

month (hotel used another projector for smaller functions) hence we cant say that

its being used extensively. Got a complaint last Christmas 2014 that the

switcher didnt work during an event. Pull it out and did test cables. HDMI

cable are all working however the HDMI splitter/switch just died on us.

Im not happy about this purchase.

PROS: We had this installed to compliment our lift projector in the ballroom. The ballroom was big hence we have to extend the signal of the hdmi cables via UTP cables. This was an option.

It worked for a good 2 years for our hotel client.

CONS: The unit is not sturdy. The connectors was not made to withstand the longer HDMI cables which is heavy.

    Audio Switching
It will not switch bitstream audio only PCM. I have tried 2 blue ray drives, a PC and all fail when using bitstream audio but all work with PCM. Took me quite a while to track down the issue. It is not mentioned on the specifications which is frustrating. I will be keeping the unit but now on the look out for one which will do bitstream audio.

PROS: Cheap, has a good HDMI amplification within the unit so HDMI runs can be 15 metres long. Simple enough to setup.

CONS: Does not switch bitstream audio.

    Working Well with HD-BaseT Extender
Installed this piece in a large home that wanted a second TV to share the living room sources. There was a Cat5 running to each TV location from the head end, so we added a HD-BaseT extender, and spliced the wires at the head end. It's been working like a champ for a few weeks now. We are controlling the switch via IR with a Global Cache controller and an iPad. The control codes were a little laborious to capture, but once we found good codes, all worked as advertised.

    PROS: Price.

working well , but just 2 weeks. NOW IS OUT OF ORDER
I bought two items since 3 years ago. one 4x4 and 4x2. The first one is still wroking perfect, until today very perfect.
The problem is with teh other item 4x2 . This item never was used until 2 weeks ago. And today, monsday 21, no output with audio and audio. in either outputs .Unit turns on and that is it, Selector switches work, but nothing happent, Just powers on . The remote works and control, but no output..

PROS: PROS The 4x4 works very well, even after 3 years. I feel good with this item , but with This 4x2 i expected the same performance, but not.. I will buy another one.

CONS: Cons. Not cons . , thanks

Works great! if you use proper cables and the power adapter doesn't go bad
I bought this April 2014 and coming up on two years, and it stopped working. Device would power up, but nothing worked. Couldn't get it to switch input or outputs. After reading the reviews again, I was reminded how others had problems within two years and I took a gamble when I bought it. The device works great, but within that two year window, you most likely will have a problem. Luckily, I only used one of the two extender boxes. I took the extra power adapter from the spare box and swapped it with the splitter's adapter and all is working again. Really weird. I have my equipment behind two power surge protectors, and haven't had a power outage in a while. So its as if it just stopped working. So yes, great product for a while. We'll see how long this adapter lasts....

PROS: Small, sturdy, works great within two years

    CONS: Apparently bad power adapters.

Worked well, for a while... but, like other reviewers here, it quit working after a little over a year. It's too bad, this seems to be the only product of its kind

UPDATE: It was the AC adapter that was faulty, even though it measured 5.0 volts output, I swapped it with one of the other adapters and it now working :-)

PROS: this is the only product of its kind for these distances.

CONS: Had some difficulty getting the IR repeaters to work consistently.

    Good unit but not perfect
Overall this product does what it's supposed to and is a really great price. However there are a few caveats to be aware of.

    1) If you have a dual band component the IR won't work and in fact the IR sensors on the remote units aren't very good to picking up signals so if this is your situation buy a separate IR repeater system

    2) If both outputs are sharing the same input and the TV for output A gets turned off then the TV for output B also loses the signal because the matrix stops sending the signal out if it can't talk to output A. Not sure if this has anything to do with my TVs in particular but kind of a bummer when someone in room A turns off the TV and person in room B is affected. A solution is to turn off the output when you turn off the TV but they don't make this easy because the little remote for the remote unit doesn't include and off button. The only way to turn it off is from the main unit.

    PROS: Cheap
Video is pretty good over cat6

CONS: IR repeater doesn't work with dual band remotes
Have to turn off output if TV is off
Small remotes don't allow you to turn off output

    Works well with one exception
This is a very slick system. The picture is a tiny bit grainier than direct HDMI. Hooked this up with a pair of 50' of non shielded cat5e and it works very well. I wouldn't use this for my theater room but for most TV watching it looks fine. The IR repeater works well with single band remotes but WILL NOT WORK with multi-band remotes used on many satellite boxes. Look for 2 emitters on the nose of the remote. If you are pre-wiring make sure to run a 3rd cat5 so you can add an IR system that can handle multi-band remotes.

    PROS: Solid picture and sound.

CONS: Will not repeat mult-band remote IR signal.
    Picture a tiny bit grainy.

I bought this switch to stream from my satellite receiver located in the living room to my new TV in the bedroom. What I needed is a switch that not only stream the HDMI signal, but also one that is capable streaming the IR signal from the satellite remote control so I can change the channels and control the PVR from the bedroom. This switch is suppose to do this, but I unfortunately never been able to make it worked properly. It worked for a few clicks but with a long response delay. Note that the length of my Cat6 cables were 60 feet, which is half of what this box is capable of.

PROS: Good streaming video and sound

CONS: Couldn't get the satellite receiver remote control working through the switch

    Response from Monoprice

Thank you for your review and truly sorry to hear PID 8152. Please note the included IR emitters are only compatible with single band IR frequencies and is not compatible with devices that utilize dual band frequencies. Could you verify if your receiver uses single band frequencies?

Another thing we can try is checking to see if the IR is transmitting a signal. You can do this by using a digital camera or camera phone and pointing the camera at the IR while pressing a button on the remote. You should see a pale purple light pulsing on the front of the remote.

Please provide the information above so that I may further assist you. Hope this helps!
