BEST ANSWER: I had to find the same product at another site. I am not allowed to include links here, so you can try to do a Google search. Try to search for wolfpack HDTVHDMB44. There should be a page for an identical product that has a software tab and a manual tab. The software tab as a link to Windows Control Software - Version 1.06

I was able to obtain the IP control software by contacting Monoprice support (number available on the Monoprice web site). The support person with which I spoke initially told me that the unit was not controllable via IP and it was only after I pressed the issue that I was e-mailed the IP software. It is important to note that the IP control is a PC-based application, not traditional IP control via any 3rd party application (Savant, Control4, etc). Good luck!

Does the EDID Management also support the Display or only the Source? For example, if I have a 4K source input but a 1080p Display on one of the outputs, can I manage this with EDID?
A shopper

BEST ANSWER: Just spent 2 hours on chat support trying to get an answer to this. It must support Auto EDID. This product is a non starter if it doesn't. I have a mix of 4k and 1080p displays and totally expect Auto EDID to be available for a switch of this price. It appears to only have be source configurable which is not useful. Sources will auto downgrade themselves based on the EDID of the display. The distinction appears to be that this product is billed as "Smart EDID" rather than "Auto EDID". And by smart, they mean you need to manually configure that the highest capability that the source should output.
In a last ditch attempt to get this resolved, I called tech support which said my wait time would be 8 minutes. Still on hold now 30 minutes later so I'm about to give up.

Just as I submitted the above response, I got through to a support rep on the phone. He confirmed that there doesn't appear to be any Auto EDID and said he has spent a fair amount of time with the product. He is submitting a ticket to research the issue. My thought is that this very well could be a firmware bug and thinks there's a good chance of that. I got an RMA but am going to hold onto it for a few weeks to see there's any sort of resolution or an answer as to if there really is no auto EDID or if there's supposed to be but it doesn't work. Best case scenario would be some undocumented way to get auto EDID to work.
This leads me to a though about something I didn't try but should. In the menu, there's an option to copy the display EDID to an input. What if this isn't a simple copy but is an active check that happens always and then what if you did the same thing to another display for the same input? Perhaps in that case it would constantly look at both and use the lowest capability EDID info. Probably reaching but it's just so inconceivable that a switch in the price category doesn't have auto EDID. For not much more you can get one that downscales and avoids the entire need to downgrade all the active displays to the least capable display.

Does the unit support IR remote control extension from display to source if they are far apart?
A shopper
on Jan 29, 2017
BEST ANSWER: Thank you for your question. This unit will have an IR extender port that can be used should you require to use an extender. However, with no power to boost the IR signal. You may need to use a separate IR extender. If the IR signal is not boosted and you are using a very long cable the signal can degrade over the long run. I hope this helps.

Does it allow multiple inputs to function at one time? Like, if my four sources are an Xbox One, PS4, Cable Box, and Blu-Ray player, can I have the Xbox on in the living room, while someone watches cable in the bedroom, and another person is playing the PS4 in another room?
A shopper
on Mar 30, 2017
BEST ANSWER: Yes, the Blackbird 4K 4x4 HDMI Matrix switch does allow multiple inputs to function simultaneously. The unit will allow one input to many outputs and one input to one output simultaneously. In the scenario mentioned above, the four sources could be viewed simultaneously on the four outputs (one-to-one situation) or a single input (cable box, for example) could be viewed on all four outputs (one-to-many situation). Additionally, any combination of inputs can be "piped" to any combination of outputs (2 inputs to 2 outputs, 1 input to 3 outputs, etc).

Hi. Yes, it's truly a 4x4 matrix switcher. That means you can allocate any of 4 inputs to any of the 4 outputs. You'll just need to make sure you can transmit the signal to where you need it. Monoprice has a number of HDMI over Ethernet solutions that will work for extremely long runs. And make sure your solution is HDCP 2.2 compliant which gives you some degree of future-proofing when it comes to copy protection.

Yes, you can. Generally speaking, that's the difference between a "matrix" switch and other multi-input switches. I have a DirecTV DVR, Blu-Ray player, Roku & VCR (connected via composite/HDMI converter) connected to mine and both TVs (we only use 2 outputs) can watch different input devices at the same time.

BEST ANSWER: I have not had that experience. However, I have experienced other quirks. For example, after several hours of idleness (overnight for example), I cannot get my TiVo to display. Other inputs work fine, but not the TiVo. I have to reboot the switch to regain video. Support from Monoprice has been subpar for me. I'm disappointed, particularly considering the value of the item: no firmware upgrades, not much help with my "glitch".

With my first unit, I had an issue where the device went into some sort of bootstrap state and would not boot normally. I think I held down the power too long or pressed it when plugging it in. I tried everything to recover it (all different button combos and talking to it over PC app) and just ended up RMA-ing the unit. Seems like a design flaw.

Could be the best HDMI 4k switch on the market
This thing does 4 in, 4 out, 4k at 60hz (!) and also HDCP 2.2. A monster of a switch. I've had very little issues with it, and at the very least require a simple power cycle of the switch (and even then it's most likely the fault of the device and not the switch).
One issue I have is the lcd display is partially not working. Not sure if that's an issue with this switch or all of them.

OK switch considering the price
The Blackbird 4K 4x4 HDMI Matrix, 18Gbps, YUV4:4:4, HDCP 2.2 does basic HDMI switching very well. The included remote control is simple to use.
I could not get the RS232 control to work with the code provided by Monoprice technical support. Another reviewer had the same issue. Monoprice technical support claims no ownership of supporting the RS232 information that they provide.
The IP control is based on a PC application and not true IP control.
If you want basic 4K HDMI switching, this is a good (not great) unit. For any automation or advanced switching, a higher-end unit will be better suited as the time, effort, and cost to make the Blackbird unit work with automation will outweigh the low cost.

Blackbird 4K 4x4 Matrix Switch
This unit performed as described with one exception. There was no documentation for RS232 control included with the unit. When technical support was contacted they emailed the commands with the admonition that they provided no support for RS232 control. When we attempted to control the unit with the supplied commands only one command worked. The IR codes, however, worked fine.
PROS: The matrix switcher worked fine and passed HDCP 2.2 video signal without a problem
CONS: No RS232 documentation provided with the unit, No technical support for RS232. And, the RS232 commands supplied by the tech did not work which is probably why they don't support it.
