I am using the 1x8 splitter to display a shared screen on 8 different monitors and the splitter only works when using a dvd and not on any computers. What are some things I can do to troiubleshoot it? The One computer is windows 7 and the other is windows 10 and neither works. I am using LG ,Samsung and a panasonic TV to display on.

BEST ANSWER: Thank you for your question. When using splitters, you want to be sure that the resolution that you are sending from the source device is supported by all the displays connected to the splitter. I would recommend starting at a lower resolution, such as 720p (1280x720) and seeing if you receive picture. Also, try checking for an update on the video card to see if that will help with the issue. I hope this helps.

Is there a rack mounting kit for this unit?
    Josh S on Aug 14, 2018
BEST ANSWER: Mine did NOT come with the rack mounting brackets. There are holes on the side of the unit for them too... Gonna call and complain about that one as it fits perfectly in 1U spot like it was DESIGNED for it... LOL.
How about HDCP? Will it play DVD/BD to all outputs?

BEST ANSWER: We use it to push Apple Tv movies to 8 tv's. It works great. Had a issue 3 years into owning it. The power plug went bad so we had to replace it. Other than that it has worked great.
Any signal degradation if running this up to 164' to 8 different monitors?
And could I use a HDMI switcher to the transmitter as my source to toggle back and forth from different sources?
    A shopper on Aug 27, 2018
BEST ANSWER: Haven’t had any lose of signal or quality so far been very pleased and using a hdmi switch shouldn’t be a problem have used a hdmi switch at another location
Do I really need the power receiver if the distance between the splitter and the monitor is 120ft or less, in other word, I want to use plain cat5e/cat6 cable between the splitter and the monitor?
    Nhan T on Dec 4, 2017
BEST ANSWER: Hi Nhan, this unit does not support Power Over Cable (PoC) so the power supply it required regardless of the distance.
What would be the best way to add an additional 4 displays to this for a total of 1x12?
    Eric P on May 26, 2017

Try this first if you have a failure
This is a great box when working. If you have a failure like many of us have. Try replacing the 5v 4A power adapter first.
After mine failed, exhibiting switching between picture and no signal and then no signal at all, I tried to replace just the splitter but Monoprice will only sell the whole new kit with another 8 receivers and power supplies. I use this in my business and needed it back up working ASAP, so I went the whole new kit route. On receiving I pulled just the new power adapter out first and hooked it to the old splitter. Immediately it all worked fine. Not sure if Mono sells a 5V 4A Power adapter for this box but a lot cheaper than a whole kit. Guess I now have a spare 1x8 splitter and 8 spare receivers. Try the power adapter first.

PROS: Worked fine for 2 years.

CONS: Cannot replace without buying whole new kit.

Great Unit - Needs a More Robust Power Supply
I agree with JC if you begin having issues, try replacing the main unit's 5V, 4A adapter, first.

I've had my 8160 splitter for 2-3 years. Then, ports 2, 6 & 8 stopped working recently. I limped along by moving important TVs to working ports, but thought I would eventually have to replace the splitter. By reading these reviews, I began to wonder if the power supply could be the culprit. I purchased a 5V, 6A adapter online with 5.5mm x 2.5mm coaxial plug (center positive). With new adapter, all ports on the splitter now work. To be certain, I tried the old adapter again, and same ports fail. PS: I found my replacement adapter online "5V, 363511". It brought my unit back to 100%.

Since they are not provided, I made some sheetmetal brackets to mount the receiver to my HT & network distribution board (plywood) mounted on the basement wall.

I purchased a bunch of items from Monoprice for my HT updates during my home remodel. Everything worked great. One minor damage issue, but Monoprice took care of it. Good vendor.

PROS: Great splitter - no issues with sync - never needs reset.

TVs on and off plug and unplug HDMI syncs back up. No HDCP issues in my setup.

My installation works well with 8597 UTP CAT6.

Compatible with all my HDTVs: 2006 Samsung, 2013 Samsung, 2008 Visio.

Allows me to feed HDTV signal from centrally located DVR to multiple TVs. I use multiple UHF remotes to control the DVR.

CONS: If Monoprice shipped a more robust power supply with this splitter, their customers would be happier. Reviews indicate issues can crop up with some units (including mine) after a year or two of service. Hopefully, swapping out the power supply can fix most, if not all, of these issues.

It would be great if the main unit fed power to the 8 HDMI receivers through the CAT6 requiring power adapters for all 8 receivers is a pain, but not a deal-killer.

As others have mentioned, including some main unit mounting brackets would be a real plus.

    Great Value
You can't beat this system for the money. I've installed several of these systems and they have all worked well. It seems to good to be true. My biggest worry is that they would discontinue it, and I'd have to pay thousands to replace it with something else that would cost thousands, if it every failed. I wish it could be serviced and I wish Monoprice had replacement parts.

One added note- I noticed that there are mounting holes on the main chassis for rack-mount brackets, but there are not brackets. I'd gladly pay a few bucks more if the brackets were included. As it's presently sold, I either have to add a shelf to accommodate it in the rack, or build the brackets myself.

PROS: Excellent deal for the money. It performs well.

    CONS: Replacement parts not available

    Works great when they work
I had to setup AV in our gym which required setting up 16 TV's with multiple signals. I didn't find 1x16 splitter so I purchased couple 1x2 splitters and 4 of these 1x8 splitters at this location and another for other location. Out of box setup was great and everything worked great. Then I lost signal to one TV and after a lot of troubleshooting it was determined that port went bad. Then over one weekend I had two other boxes go dead. After RMA replacement (great job Monoprice) all was great until unit at our other location died. so we had 4 bad units out of 5 in less than a year. I am not sure if they are overheating due to being constantly on so we will try to put them on mechanical timer. Hope your units last longer than ours.

PROS: Image quality over CAT 6 great, no issues with syncing multiple TV's, great price

CONS: 4 out of 5 went bad

This unit is slick, When I got the e-mail asking for a review I thought 'how do you rate a cable' then I remembered this unit. We have 4 or 5 HDMI monitors in a classroom all run over Ethernet from a single computer. The AV company wanted 4 grand to do the same thing. Its easy, it works, get it.

PROS: Easy to set up and use

CONS: Replacement parts are impossible due to the way we purchase and the way monoprice lists us. A powersupply went bad and could not get a replacement, since they are cheap I just went out and bought one.

    Works Great
Hooked up all 4 TV's to it and they all show great picture & sound...and one of the TV's is about 40 feet away. I would advise people not to use generic HDMI cables. Purchase some 28AWG High Speed HDMI Cable w/Ferrite Cores from monoprice. If you're using basic, standard, or generic HDMI cables, your connection may not work well.

PROS: Great price, works well, easy to install.

    CONS: None

Works Great - But Two Defective Receivers
The system works great! Sends a high def 1080p signal over long CAT-5e runs with no loss of quality! Two of the 8 receivers were DOA. Sadly, I didn't know because they were the last two I ever tried to hook up, and it was long after I bought the product.

PROS: Sends a high def 1080p signal over long CAT-5e runs with no loss of quality!

CONS: Two of the 8 receivers were DOA.

    Get a BIGGER Power Supply!!
My first one died after about a year of light use. The replacement lasted about 2 years. Just the other week, port 1 (most used) pretty much stopped working. Audio came through but video was filled with static and would cut out. After reading some previous reviews I noticed a mention of the power supply. I ordered a recommended 5v 6A power supply with a 5.5mmx2.5mm plug (center +) and it solved the problem! I just have to hope no damage was done using the power supply that came with the unit.

Hopefully Monoprice reads this and makes the changes with this product to prevent future issues.

PROS: Works great with CAT-6 (have not tried with CAT-5e). I currently only use 2-3 TVs but needed the option to add more down the road. This unit allows me to use one cable box and feed all the TVs without an additional monthly cost from the cable provider.

CONS: The power supply is insufficient. Rack mount?

    This is a great product
I had searched everywhere for a product that does some version of what this does and found nothing reasonable. This is a great solution to push video to many displays and significantly less expensive than everything else I was able to find.

    I might buy another one!
