1x2 Pigtail HDMI® Splitter ***THIS PRODUCT HAS BEEN REPLACED BY 15252*****

Watch your video content on two displays at the same time using this 1x2 HDMI® Splitter from Monoprice!

This splitter uses a pigtail design, which eliminates the need for one of the cables needed for an ordinary splitter. It has a single HDMI male plug on the end of a 20" cable, which plugs into your source device (e.g., blu-ray player, game console, cable box, etc.). The input plug and the two HDMI output ports are gold-plated to ensure smooth, corrosion-free connections. The package includes a 5VDC/2A AC adapter with a 44" cord.

The splitter supports High Speed HDMI signals, which means that it supports the following HDMI features:

    • 1080p Resolution - It supports the full 1080p@60Hz HDMI resolution.
    • 3D Video - It supports all standard HDMI 3D modes.
    • Deep Color - It supports deep color up to 12-bits per channel, 36-bits total.
    • High Definition Audio - It supports high-definition multi-channel audio signals, including Dolby TrueHD™ and DTS-HD Master Audio™.

Note: Monoprice strongly recommends using 22AWG, 24AWG, or active HDMI cables with Redmere technology to achieve the best results and to ensure minimum signal loss over longer distances.

    Excellent little splitter
Both TV's are 1080p so the video signal fed to both works great.

For the audio the upstairs tv passes the audio thru to a surround sound, 5.1, reciever, the downstairs tv only accepts stereo audio... so unfortunately it means the lowest common audio format (stereo) is used for both TV's. To be clear this is not a negative of the splitter but a limitation of the hdmi spec... it's just something to be aware of. I hope the hdmi standards group comes up with a work-around for this type of scenario.

PROS: It gives me a reliable, high quality signal when connecting my dish dvr to my upstairs TV connected via a 6' cable and my downstairs tv connected via 30' cable.
Includes a short pigtail so you don't need to buy an extra cable to feed into the splitter.

CONS: Minor niggle, the status light is a bit too bright.

Doesn't work with Comcast Motorola DCX3400 Box
I bought this HDMI Splitter to use with my Comcast HD cable box, a Motorola DCX3400. I wanted to split the cable box output to my HDTV and via my Receiver to my Projector. It worked fine to the TV but would not work going thru my receiver to my projector. I tried various troubleshooting procedures and device turn on sequences but nothing worked for the projector. I did some internet research and found others complaining about the HDCP (Copy Protection) set on the Comcast boxes which would allow only 2 downstream devices. That would explain why the TV would work splitter-1, TV-2, but the projector would not splitter-1, receiver-2, projector-3. The specifications of this unit listed "HDCP pass-through" which I thought would allow it to work. I called Monoprice to return and give up but after talking to a tech support rep he suggested trying a different model. I returned the Model 8153 and ordered the Model 8204. Only difference "I thought" was the 8153 had a HDMI pigtail and the 8204 did not. Turns out the 8204 model has a different chipset than the 8153. I received the 8204 and hooked it up, with all the same HDMI cables and it worked perfectly! So there is more of a difference between the 8153 and the 8204 than just the HDMI pigtail!! Just a note both units needed to have power applied to work.

Thanks to Monoprice Tech Support for helping resolve the problem!

PROS: Easy set up with included HDMI Pigtail

CONS: Doesn't work with Comcast HD Motorola DCX3400 box

    Get the 8204 Model instead

    HDMI Splitter Works Great
I have purchased 3 of these so far. I use them with 3 different TV's and 2 different BluRay players. They work great. I have had no issues with them and would buy another one is and when I need one.

    Would recommend.

PROS: Works fine out of the box. BTW, works without the power supply connected. Is this bad for it or is it only necessary for long HDMI cable runs? I have using 3 ft and 12 ft cables.

    CONS: none.

    Response from Monoprice
    Hello,

Thank you for your review on PID 8153. Glad to hear you have been satisfied this splitter! Regarding your inquiry, it is not a bad for the splitter to be used without the power adapter. However, in most setups the splitter will not function properly when the power adapter is not connected. This could be caused by long cable runs or even with short runs where the signal is simply too weak. It ultimately depends on your specific setup and the devices in use. I hope this helps and should you have any questions in the future regarding our products, please feel free to contact our tech support team via live chat, phone, or email and we would be happy to assist you.

worked for a few days only
stopped working after a few days. Was not getting any signal to come thru on any of the ports. Tried with a different TV and receiver. I was using this to split a DVR feed to a local HDMI TV and a 100 ft cat6 over HDMI using the wall plate from monoprice. 8008 It worked for a few days and then stopped. I used the power adapter that came with it. Maybe I had a defective unit or it may not be designed to work with a 100ft cat6 over HDMI run

Luckily they refunded it for me and I'm now using the 4x2 powered HDMI splitter 53124X2 True Matrix HDMI® Switch w/ Remote (Rev. 3.0) and that is working without any issue.

PROS: worked great for a few days

    Disappointed
I wanted a device to split the cable box video between the home theatre system and the TV in the laundry/work out room. Both rooms share a wall in the basement. It will regularly drop the connection on one side or the other. I'll have to reseat the cable to wake it up, or power cycle the device. Kind of a pain, especially for the non tech savvy members of the family.

PROS: Price. No additional cables needed.

CONS: Regularly have to unplug/plug or power cycle the unit to get it to work.

    Dissatisfied with product
Product does not work reliably. After checking reviews, which I should have done before I ordered product, I find many others have had the same problem of not recognizing my tv's, either of them quite often. Your customer service rep. blamed my HDMI cable supplier for not giving me a 18 ga. cable. Which I find is not true for a 6 foot cable and if I had a cable using a 18 gage wire (which no one makes) it would be the size of a garden hose. Then his only solution was for me to purchase another one of your products with a different part number, that he said was "was more reliable". You sent me another product which was the same number and it did not work either. I am very dissatisfied with my purchase and returned the 2nd. item you sent. Since I have purchased from another company and that one works perfectly. Roger Horton
