How would I connect a ps2 or wii to this? I would like to add both systems, but I only see one set of red/white/yellow sockets. Where would I connect the yellow plug?

Only thing keeping me from buying this is lack of S-video input, so has Monoprice ever made anything like this that has a S-video input? Am aware of the S-video composite to HDMI converter, but want one box to plug composite, S-video, and component devices into for conversion to HDMI.

BEST ANSWER: Take a look at the Composite, S-Video, and HDMI® to HDMI® Converter and Switch w/ HDMI PAL NTSC Support, product #9994. Below taken from Monoprice ad.
The primary purpose of this converter is to take legacy Composite or S-Video input and convert it to HDMI for use on your newer HDTV. The converter accepts a low-resolution 480i legacy input and upscales it to a high-resolution 720p or 1080p HDMI digital signal.
The HDMI input allows the converter to perform upscaling on low-resolution HDMI signals, so you can view them at the full 720p/1080p resolution supported by your TV. The output can be switched from 720p to 1080p at the press of a button. Another small button on unit switches between the composite/s-video input and the HDMI input.
The converter is powered by a 5 VDC, 2A AC power adapter, which is included in the package. The AC adapter has a 46" long cord. The converter measures 5 1/16" x 3.5" x 1.0".

Can you use a coaxial cable (with an OTA antenna signal) in the component input & The HDMI output will include both the video & audio from the OTA signal?

Excellent device but with a problem.
Excellent unit but unfortunately failed after 15 months and only has 12 month warranty.

PROS: This unit is the perfect solution to using new devices with older A/V systems. My entire A/V system is built around it. I have experienced very few problems except for the ones listed in cons section. The unit converts audio and video flawlessly and all audio outputs are active at the same time. It is exactly the type of device I was looking for.

CONS: I have 2 minor issues and one MAJOR issue. The first minor issue is that the unit will not switch inputs without cycling the power after the unit has been in use for a few hours. The second minor issue is that the red LEDs are WAY too bright on the front panel.

My major issue is this: the unit simply stopped working after 15 months, and it only has a 12 month warranty! It powers on, but will not switch inputs and outputs no audio or video. Extremely disappointing. I would expect a nearly $100 unit to last longer than this. To Monoprice: do you guys want to make this right by replacing the unit or at least giving me a great price on another one? I feel cheated. My review would have been 10/10 if the unit had not failed!

No Sound unless video signal is sent
I recently decided to replace and expensive stereo with an inexpensive sound bar, and adding this switch was art of that plan. This was a perfect drop-in replacement for the video switching part of my old HDMI capable receiver. The fact that this unit converts YPbPr and DVI to HDMI and combines the audio signals all on to one HDMI cable means I was able to send the switched signal way across the room above my fireplace, no problem.

Sadly, My old receiver had a connection that was not covered by this unit: a Record Player.

I could plug in a Raspberry Pi to just the "Y" channel of the component and get a signal to go across, but unless there was some sort of video signal, there was no way to send the sound across the HDMI. I will be asking for a return. This unit was much more expensive than the simple HDMI switchers offered elsewhere on this site, and I cannot justify the cost for myself in this case.

    PROS: Simple

converts DVI or Component to HDMI

Cobmines analog or digital sound with picture seamlessly

IR extender helps get the IR receiver out of the cabinet

CONS: Sound is not carried without a video signal

    Doesn't work
Really disappointed, bought this to hook up (original) playstation and XBOX as well as a blue ray/DVD player. Playstation picture is grainy, with lines and in black and white, XBOX won't work at all and DVD player is great except the colors are wrong. My kids ripped up the box before I realized it and now can't return it. Tried working with tech support however its all online which is very difficult to work with and convey issues. I should have read the many negative reviews before buying.

CONS: Can't get it to work

    Great Product!
This product offers an excellent solution for the problem I had. Older TV and receiver, but both work just fine. I had very limited aux inputs on the receiver and only one HDMI on the TV. This product lets me plug in a Wii, Mac mini, apple TV, and DVD player and managed to simplify my control as well. RS-232 control is fast and reliable and protocol made it easy to integrate into my control system.

The product will not switch to a component source if the device attached is not powered on. I wish that could be overridden, but again, the serial communication made it easy to program around that.

All in all, great quality product that offers a well-designed solution for a likely common problem at a great price point. Even the cons I listed were nor so much negatives as they are suggestions for features that would make this product even better! Thanks again, Monoprice!

PROS: Converts multiple formats to HDMI output
Support for Analog RCA, Toslink and Coaxial Digital audio
RS-232 control with simple protocol and unsolicited feedback.

CONS: Would like to be able to tweak some more settings. Audio levels can vary from source to source, would love some input gain compensation.
Conversion of component sources seems rather hi-gain, video-wise. Would be nice to adjust that.

    Converter Switch
MonoPrice Customer Service was AWESOME. First when the switch did not work right, they sent me a new switch and the label to send the old one back. When the second switch did not work, they provided me a return on that also, again with free shipping. They stood behind their product completely and were prompt in their credit back to my card. This was my first return with them, so I did not know what to expect. Their support is why I give them my business - fantastic customer service. THANK YOU!

PROS: Concept of the switch was great-this was the only place I could find a switch like this

CONS: Unfortunately it did not work to convert my HDMI equipment to a DVI and R/L audio output for my older TV

    video switch
over all,a good buy. Other than the remote issue, it works perfectly.
Not all that big of a deal though, since I have to be present to load /
unload a DVD or Wii disk anyway.
I would recommend this product for use in a similar situation.

PROS: solved the "limited Number" of HDMI ports un my tv issue

CONS: the remote quit functioning after 2 days

    works as described
I have a HD cable box via HDMI, an Apple TV 2 via HDMI, a DVD player via component video, and wii via component, for in puts. For outputs a home theatre system via toslink and a TV via HDMI. I did require 24 AWG HDMI cables - otherwise I didn't get a picture. I haven't used the the wii or the dvd a player a lot yet, but so far everything works as expected and I don't have any complaints.

PROS: Works exactly as described. No unexpected issues.

CONS: Its big, 17 or so inches - it would be nice if it was smaller - but honestly I'm not sure that's even possible with the number of connections on this thing.
The indicator lights are bright, as mentioned in other reviews - but not really a big deal for me.

Saved me from buying a new receiver
I was shopping for a new receiver since I needed HDMI switching, then I realized that this device and my Logitech Harmony would suffice.

The Harmony knows all the IR codes and features for this device so that's all sorted and rolling--and I can put off a new receiver purchase for another generation or two.

Great converter and switch-SUPER sound source modifier
Other than the 2 power cable issues (see CONS) all else worked as promised.
Didn't test it yet with HDMI INPUTs.
    I used the following setup:
    YUV1 - RGB (video) + OPTICAL (audio)
    YUV2 - RGB (video) + COAXIAL (audio)

OUTPUT: HDMI (video) directly to TV + COAXIAL (audio) to RECEIVER.

The funny thing is that when selecting YUV1 (which has OPTICAL input) you have to select the TOSLINK (optical) output to hear sound. Since i only have one COAX cable connected from SWITCH's output to RECEIVER's input, i expected the COAXIAL output would always stay unchanged.
That is not true in the case mentioned above, it somehow overrides the output with the Optical input.
Not a pain, just a funny thing.

GREAT TOOL also for switching between multiple INPUT audio sources too.
That part is overlooked by the main video switching, but think that you can bring in audio via HDMI, optical (toslink) or coaxial cables and take it out to the receiver or TV in any of those 3 formats or simply in L/R analog.

VERY IMPORTANT: the switch allows PARALLEL outputs on all 3 formats (Optical, Coax and Analog), so good news for those multizone audio fans. Basically, you can feed 3 amplifiers with the same incoming signal.

WARNING: don't remember seing that in the main product page, but mind you it only supports HDMI 1.2a (now we're at 1.4). Depending on your needs, you may want to consider that too.

Never used the DVI and the RS232 (PC) INPUTs.
The DVI INPUT can be easily used as the 3rd HDMI input by using a DVI to HDMI converter and a regular HDMI cable. No signal loss on that setup.

PROS: Packaging is perfect, clean, printed manual is decent, remote is small and cute, memory function (last setting remembered) helps a lot.

CONS: 1) Big cons: POWER CABLE is VERY SHORT for such device 1m (3 ft). This device is supposed to be used in a towered setup, therefore a longer cable would be expected.
    2) Power plug includes the transformer, which is HUGE and eats up 2 slots.
Gave it one star less because of these top two power related aspects which are a real nuissance and could have been dealt with at this price (at least the cable length!).
    3) Too bright red LEDs. Still not sure why in the world some manufacturers use these strong illuminating leds that would go better in a flashlight. The purpose of a LED is to be seen, not to blind you.
    4) Not really a cons, but I am not clear what the remote extender does, manual does not cover that. I assume it gives a longer operating range.
