Does this switch auto-switch? Or is it just manual switching?
    A shopper on May 9, 2017
BEST ANSWER: The SOURCE/MODE/3s button can be pressed to switch among the 4 input sources 'circularly'. The same button can be held down for 3 seconds to toggle between auto-switch and manual switch modes.
Does this have native support with the Harmony remote series? I know I can manually add devices in and manually program devices, but if this is already supported it will make this purchase easier
    New User U on Jul 28, 2017
BEST ANSWER: Yes, this does has native support with Harmony. I also use a Harmony remote and the setup was simple. No manual setup or programming was necessary for this device, unlike other brands that I've used in the past.
Does this switch honestly work with HDR? I have bought SO many switches that say they support HDR 4K, to only get them home and have to send them right back because they do not support it.
    A shopper on Jun 5, 2017
BEST ANSWER: This 4x1 switch will support HDR no problem. Just be sure that you are using the proper cables to support HDR.
I already have the older Blackbird 4K Pro (15263). Does the 21614 have a separate IR remote than that? That is, can I use both with a Harmony together and not have them interfere with each other?

The manual makes reference to updating the firmware but where do you download it from?
    Shawn N on Oct 5, 2017
BEST ANSWER: There is currently no firmware update available.
Does this switch automatically switch inputs when a new device is turned on, or the current device is turned off - or must you manually press a button on the device or remote to switch inputs? Additionally, does auto-switching only happen on power on/off, or does it sense video signals as well for devices that are always on but may be in a sleep/suspend mode with no video?
    Clint K on Sep 22, 2017
    BEST ANSWER: It's manual.
Is this a seamless switch or does it it take 1 or 2 seconds to switch between sources.?
    Stuart L on May 9, 2017
BEST ANSWER: It takes 1-2 seconds to switch: at least for me. I currently have a Nintendo Switch, Shield TV 2017, Roku Ultra and Chromecast Ultra attached. Personally, I prefer the 1-2 second switch times over having problems that have me resorting to power cycling the switch, display or device to get a picture. Switch has no issue going from 1080p to 4K to 4K HDR and I can bump up the color spaces on the Shield TV and Roku back to 4:2:2 (the switch truly supports 4:4:4 pass-through unlike my previous switch). FYI: according to the manual, the switch is firmware upgradable.
I want to use this with the SlimRun AV Cable for HDMI Enabled Devices (75ft) as my output. I read that this cable needs a powered HDMI port. Does this switch support this? Basically, will this switch work with that cable as the output HDMI?

BEST ANSWER: Thank you for your question. Active HDMI cables will pull power from the 5V pin on the TV's HDMI port. It will work as the output from an HDMI switch. Just be sure that the TV labeled end is connected directly to your TV.

    WEIXI L on Jul 22, 2017
    Does it support HDMI-CEC ?
    A shopper on Jun 11, 2017
    BEST ANSWER: Yes
I see you don't suggest integrating this with a home theater receiver. Are you talking as an input, an output, or both? I was hoping to feed all my non-HDR components through my HDMI Out from my home theater receiver (as I do today) into this, along with my DirecTV HDR bypassing the home theater directly into this switch, then HDMI out of the switch into my TV. Are you saying this is unadvisable? I was also hoping to take advantage of the CEC functionality through that setup as well.

does this work with dolby vision?
    A shopper on Jul 11, 2018
BEST ANSWER: I assume you are asking if your DVD player can decode Dolby Vision, will this pass it on to your Display which also handles Dolby vision. Let's check some things. Per WIKI : Dolby Vision is content mastering and delivery format similar to HDR10 media profile. It supports both high dynamic range (HDR) and wide color gamut (ITU-R Rec. 2020 and 2100) at all stages from content creation and production to transmission and playback. Dolby Vision includes the Perceptual Quantizier (SMPTE ST-2084) electro-optical transfer function and supports displays with up to 10,000-nit maximum brightness (4,000-nit in practice). It also provides up to 4K resolution and color depth of up to 12-bits (backward compatible with current 8-bit and 10-bit displays).[25] Dolby Vision can encode mastering display colorimetry information using static metadata (SMPTE ST 2086) and dynamic metadata (SMPTE ST 2094-10, Dolby format) for each scene.[26]Examples of Ultra HD (UHD) Dolby Vision is available in TV, monitor, mobile device and theater. Dolby Vision content can be delivered on Ultra HD Blu-ray discs[27][28] over conventional broadcasting, OTT, and online streaming media services.[29] Dolby Vision metadata can be carried via HDMI interface versions 1.4b and above.[
The main point (for this question) is the last line. So, if your devices are HDMI 1.4b or higher, then it should work fine since this is HDMI 2.0.
I am having regular A/V dropouts on my 4K sources when using this switch with Monoprice Certified Premium High Speed cables (#27039); very frustrating and brings WAF to 0%.

    Monoprice Essentials Certified Premium High Speed HDMI Cable - 4K @ 60Hz, HDR, 18Gbps, 28AWG, YUV 4:4:4, 3ft, Black
BEST ANSWER: There are no current firmware updates available for this device.

unfortunately the issues are related to introp compatibility between source and sink, not just the switch. This switch meets all HDCP 2.2 and HDMI 2.0 requirements and does not interfere with the handshake. Please contact our support team for additional guidance on how to have the more reliable system.
Hi, what is the AC Adapter Input Power specs?
    A C on Nov 28, 2017
BEST ANSWER: The AC adapter, Mass Power NBS12E******** has an input spec of 100-240V @50-60 Hz 0.3A.
Now if you wanted the output specs too, they're 5V @2A.
Just a note: mighty small letters and numbers even with a magnify glass.

Can I tie a home theater receiver in in with this switch ?
    Darin d on May 17, 2017
BEST ANSWER: Thank you for your question. We highly advise against connecting a home theater receiver and a switch together. Doing so will add resistance to the signal and has a high chance of failure. If your TV has an audio output it would be recommend to connect via that output to your receiver. That way anything plugged into your TV will output to your receiver.

    Big power in small footprint.
I have been using the Blackbird 4K Pro HDMI Switch for over a week now and i love it! My specific use for the device is expanding my quantity of available HDMI ports with automatic switching while maintaining the 4K resolution and HDR format of the video signal. This little box does exactly that with automatic switching no less!

My only gripe is about a packaging/cost saving decision and not a functionality limitation. The unit comes with an IR remote control for manually switching between devices since the automatic feature only works when a device first powers on. Well, the remote did not come with the coin-cell battery it requires. Sure it is minimal effort to walk to the unit and press the button to change it, but the same argument could be made for swapping the HDMI cables to begin with. After all I payed $89.99 for convenience didn't I? If it were a AA or even a AAA battery I would have it covered and would not have withheld a star on this review, but I do not keep a stock of the plethora of choices in the coin-cell battery world.

Finally an HDR switch that works!
This is my third Switch I have tried, two from another company, and finally one that actually does what it says. I needed a switch for my PC (NVidia GTX 1080ti), PS4 Pro, and my future Xbox One X.

The first two switches could handle 4K no problem, but when trying to use HDR, they just could not handle the additional data trying to be pushed through.

Now with my Blackbird 4K Pro, I have both my PC and PS4 Pro connected and fully working with 4K and HDR. So very excited to have a product that does what it says it does.

    Underwhelming
This is my initial review right out the box. The auto switch does not work which is really disappointing. Manually changing to the next input has about a 5+ second delay which is also disappointing. Updating firmware is confusing and unclear - I was hoping a firmware update would fix these issues...if I can find it. I'm coming from a 1080p switch that can auto switch and has a 1s delay when changing inputs so my expectations are high.

I'll revise this review if anything changes but just a warning that this switch may not live to your expectations right out the box.

Works well when it works. 4K @ 60 Hz 4:4:4 at this price is great.
Took a while for it to start working. Remote didn't work initially. I checked the LED bulb on it by looking through my digital camera while pushing the buttons - NOTHING! Tried a different button battery - same thing. So I peered inside and gently cleaned and pried up the battery contacts and tried again....BINGO!! Now the LED was showing when I pushed the buttons on the remote. Hooked it up using a spare micro-USB cable to the rear USB conncection on the back of my XBox 1S (instead of using the AC adapter). Hooked up 3 components to it and attached an HDMI cable to one of my LG C7 inputs and tried it. It passed all signal and worked well - both manual and auto switching.

IF YOU CAN'T GET THE REMOTE TO WORK - TEST THE LED BULB BY LOOKING THROUGH A DIGITAL CAMERA OR CELL PH CAMERA WHILE PUSHING BUTTONS. YOU WILL PLAINLY SEE IT LIGHT UP IN BLUE IF IT IS WORKING. YOU CANNOT SEE IT WORKING WITH THE NAKED EYE. IT IS NOT SENSITIVE TO THE WAVELENGTH THE LED GIVES OFF.

I've diagnosed lots of remotes over the years with this method.

    Excellent Product
As has been the case with other Monoprice products that I've purchased in the past, this product performs exactly as advertised and the setup was simple. I bought this switch as a replacement for another manufactuer's switch that had similar claims, but did not perform. For weeks, I tried swapping out cables, switching ports, changing device settings, and many other troubleshooting efforts. However, when I switched to the Blackbird 4K Pro, all issues were resolved. Thank you Monoprice for creating quality products and a big thanks to your Support team for helping me along the way.

Works fine but why cheap-out on the remote control battery?
I have to agree with some of the other reviews here. While the switch seems to work perfectly, I was amazed that the small remote control did not include the CD2025 battery. Luckily, I had another remote hanging around that used this battery, so I wasn't out of luck.

Although the switch deserves 5 stars, only 4 will be awarded because of the battery.

Only 18 gbps switch I could find at a reasonable price
Pro: Reasonably priced 18gbps switch that seems to route video appropriately.

Cons: Remote simply does not work. If you press the button 4 or 5 times it might switch but more often than not you have to get up and switch using the button on the unit. Auto-switching doesn't seem to work reliably either

Works great, small form factor. No complaints.
I've had my unit for a couple of weeks now and so far so good. I have no complaints. It's a lot smaller than I had expected so it easily tucks away unseen at the back of a shelf. The IR receiver has about a 3 foot cable so I secured that with some tape near the front of the shelf and use my Harmony remote to switch inputs (switch is set to manual mode). I don't yet have any 4K/HDR sources to push through it so I can't comment on that yet but 1080p and all the digital sound formats pass as expected.
