Questions and Answers
While this unit is able to accept a power adapter, the adapter is not required for normal operation. If you find you need to use the power adapter for any reason, we recommend a power supply with the following specifications.
Universal Input Voltage: 100-240VAC
Output: 5VDC / 3A
2.1 x 5.5mm plug
Centre Positive polarity
Thank you for your inquiry.
Monoprice, I have been a huge fan passionately recommending many others to you for around 10 years - you are WAY better than this...
PROS: Pending, I'll update once I get it powered up - if I can.
CONS: Beware there is no power adapter included - the description does state this but I missed it as EVERYTHING comes with an adapter - my fault there since they do clearly state this. The real problem is there is no spec. for what is required other than 5v. 1a. No polarity, no ID, OD or length. This leaves you unable to know what to get to make the thing work. They don't even sell anything that will work!
Another potential problem, is that I've noticed the switching doing funny things when images go temporarily black on my display - say, when a scene cuts, or something goes to commercials. This doesn't happen frequently, but I've noticed it occurring at least 6 times in the few hours of use.
I think this is occurring because of the auto-switching feature - i wish there was a way to disable auto switching.
PROS: 5 hdmi input
CONS: auto-switching makes your screen black out sometimes.
PROS: clear video, remote control
CONS: bright blinding LEDs, finicky remote
PROS: Works great without needing an AC power adapter, at least with short-length HDMI cables. I found it works with my old remote control that came with my old Monoprice switcher, so now I have two remotes.
CONS: Of course as always the front lights are too bright so you need to place something over them if used in a darkened room.
I ordered this one because it uses HDMI 1.4 and hoped that would solve my issue. It worked perfectly.
I use the switch to select which signal to send to my Xbox One between an ATV4, TiVo, Wii U and Ouya.
Everything works great together.
The remote that came with my unit was damaged upon arrival. The little spring that contacts the battery came un-soldered.
This wasn't a big deal for me because I programmed my harmony for it, and in no way takes away from how pleased I am with the device.
PROS: Price, build quality. Works perfectly. Power not required, but I had the power supply already plugged in from my old switch.
CONS: LEDs really are annoyingly bright. I used black tape to cover them and you can still see which device is active.
Remote quality does not match the quality of the unit.
1: autoswitching isn't working for me
2: HDMI-CEC isn't either.
Now I did also swap out the HDMI cables as well, so they are also new, but not the heavy gauge the old ones were. I'll try with a different cable soon to see if that help the HDMI-CEC issue. Not sure what I can do for autoswitching (yes, it has power adapter)
CONS: No HDMI-CEC for me
No Autoswitching for me
PROS: Does what it says
CONS: Wish it sold with the power supply...even though not necessarily required, I'd be more assured if it was there for the cases that need it.
PROS: Pros: Output and all 5 Inputs are in the rear of the unit, excellent weight distribution. Works without an AC adapter. Works fine with Harmony remotes. Should work just fine with your current HDMI cables.
CONS: Cons: Indicator lights are a little bright.
PROS: Good budget unit
Works well without adapter and with remote
CONS: DC 5V 1A adapter not included
