Will this to work with Dish Network? It will not pass the signal from my Dish Network receiver through to the TV. It does pass through the Blu-Ray player though, tried different cables.

It seems to be on, it switchs between sources, but I get no signal through the device at all. Any thoughts?

Is there a way to disable the autoswitching function? I don't need it automatically switching to the next powered device when one is turned off.

    Question about Automatic Switching:

If I have one input permanently connected to a device that is always on (AppleTV), can the switch automatically choose a different input when another device is connected and turned on? Or, will the AppleTV cause the switch to ignore other inputs and never switch automatically, requiring me to manually push the button to switch inputs?

I want to use this with a projector that has only a single HDMI input. The AppleTV and the switch would be mounted near the projector, facilitating AirPlay thru the AppleTV. But if I temporarily connect another HDMI source (like a laptop) directly using a cable, I would like the switch to automatically switch away from the AppleTV to the new device, without me having to reach up to the ceiling and push the button. Will this work?
    Kevin P on May 23, 2018
BEST ANSWER: If one input is actively displaying something, then it will not switch when a second device is turned on. If there is nothing being actively displayed, the switch will automatically switch the input to the first device that attempts to display something.
Does this work with an Amazon Fire TV (since the Fire TV doesn't turn off, it just "sleeps")?
    Shannon J on Dec 29, 2016
BEST ANSWER: It should. I have a Roku that is always on and I have not had any issues with it.
Can a Surface Pro 4 docking station use this device to share an extra monitor?
    A shopper on Feb 20, 2017
BEST ANSWER: Thank you for your question. This unit would be unable to split an HDMI signal. It would be an HDMI switch which would allow you connect multiple HDMI sources to one HDMI input on a display. You can use an HDMI splitter; however, it would only mirror the picture to the other monitor.
I have a couple of these. One works fine but the other keeps changing input every 30-60 minutes. Anyone else having these issues? Figured out a fix?

    Good product.
You do need a good quality HDMI cable, don't just get one from the dollar store. Monoprice recommends using minimum 24 AWG HDMI cables.
I used it to connect a Xbox, a Camcorder, and a WD HDTV box, so far I am very happy with it.

PROS: Work as described. Automatically toggles among 3 input sources. Compact design.

    CONS: Can think of any.

    Great Product
I had previously gone to a retail store and their solutions all were $300 or more. This little switch lets you use an older HD TV with only 1 HDMI inlet and connect to multiple new products that require HDMI easily.

    PROS: Works as advertised.

CONS: So small the cables can shift it, but small is what I ordered.

    Works - mostly...
Would be better if HDMI poweron switch function worked reliably.

Would be better if audio didn't drop when devices were powered off and on again.

Would be better if HDMI ports were on the BACK side of the switch, rather than on the outer edge, requiring the purchase of additional HDMI right angle adaptors to prevent cable sprawl.

PROS: 3 into 1 switch, small footprint. Easy 1 button operation.

CONS: Automatic switching does not occur.

Sound periodically dropped when hdmi source powers up.

Star-fish configuration requires use of right-angle hdmi adapters to get the cables to run behind the device.

    Love this device
I use this device to share a single HDMI capable monitor with a Lenovo ThinkPad, a MacBook Air and a MacMini. It's been working flawlessly since the day I purchased it.
I like the auto discovery capability while also allowing me to manually select the device I want to use.
This is a screaming deal for the price.

    PROS: Small
Has light to identify that a signal has been discovered
Automatically switches to "live" device while also having the capability to switch between devices manually

CONS: This really isn't much of a con but when working with multiple devices that are all sending signals - it will automatically switch to the most current device that comes on-line

This switch works extremely well and provides flawless video. The three inputs can be selected sequentially by repeatedly pressing the black push button. In addition, the 8149 will automatically connect to the input from a device by powering it up. Presumably the 8149 does this by detecting the appearance of the +5 Volt power on the HDMI cable. However, the 8149 doesn't detect the actual video signal. Some devices maintain their +5 Volt signal even when they are switched "off". Therefore the push button must be used to select them.

PROS: Works flawlessly compact size, inexpensive

    CONS: Voltage-only automatic switching

I ordered this switch to hook to a CRT HDTV I own that only has one input. I use it to switch between the blu-ray player and cable box. The switch has three inputs and one output. There is a button that lights up an LED next to each input. That portion works exactly as you would think. This switch also features power detecting auto switching that took me a bit to figure out since it didn't come with any directions.

If I leave the red LED on the device I want to be the default/fallback, I can then power up something else on another input and the switch will grab from that input. If I power down that same device it will fall back to my default device again. In my situation I have the light set to input 1 with the cable box connected to it. The blu-ray player is on input 2. I leave the cable on most of the time and only power up the BD player when I need it. For this it functions perfectly.

    PROS: Small

    CONS: No directions!

I got this because I had three Hdmi devices and only 1 Hdmi port on my TV. I was worried the auto switching wouldn't work correctly because one device is my cable DVR and it stays on all the time. The other two devices, an Xbox 360 and PS3, are on occasionally. When I turn on one of the gaming devices it automatically switches to the proper input after 5 - 8 seconds and once I turn them off it switches back to the DVR. I was surprised by the small size and quality of this item. The only downside is the extremely bright power light. I left it on top of my furniture to easily access the switching button if needed and the power light lit up my entire bedroom. I placed a small piece of electrical tape over the light. I would definitely recommend this to anyone without enough Hdmi ports.

PROS: Small size, secure ports, auto switching, cheap

CONS: Power light is extremely bright

    HDMI Switch
Overall it did the job as my old (CRT) HD TV had only 1 HDMI in and I wanted to feed video to it from multiple sources. However I am not seeing the automatic switching working as expected. Not sure if I am doing something wrong or product is faulty. Does the automatic switching work based turning off the other sources and keeping only the source you want on. E.g. If I have cable and DVD player both being routed through this switch, do I have to switch off cable in order for DVD feed to go in? If so, then it does not meet my needs completely. I sometimes switch between DVD and Cable. Or am I missing a trick here?

    PROS: Works well

CONS: Not sure if automatic switching works. No documentation to troubleshoot so no way to know what's going on.

Great budget HDMI switch except for some kinks
This is a great little switch but doesn't play nice with the Chromecast. When the Chromecast is connected and another device is on (on that input), it will automatically switch to the Chromecast. You can switch by pressing the button on the switch but it will still automatically switch back to the Chromecast in 20 minutes. Otherwise, a great switch!

PROS: Works great with everything but my Chromecast

CONS: No Remote and doesnt work with a Chromecast

    Works (almost) as intended
This device is great, but sometimes it will randomly switch to a different HDMI device for no reason, and usually in the middle of playing a game or watching a movie.

I would still buy one again, because it's just a minor inconvenience.

PROS: Allows multiple HDMI devices to connect through one port

    CONS: Doesn't always switch properly
