I've bought many things from Monoprice and this is the first dud. The router needs rebooting every day. It appears it has a problem with it's DHCP server that I was hoping to correct with a firmware upgrade. The upgrade or even the original firmware is not available on Monoprice's website. This one is heading for the recycle bin as soon as I get my new one. I think I will stick with the name brands this time.
Thank you for your review and truly sorry to hear about the issue encountered with PID 8070. Has this worked properly for you initially? Have you tried switching out the ethernet cables or testing the router with a different device to see if anything changes? Does the issue improve when you adjust the antennas?
Another step you can try if you have not done so already is power cycling the network. Disconnect everything from the modem including power and cables. After about 5 minutes, plug everything back in and power everything back on starting with the modem (wait for each unit to reboot fully) and work your way back to the router (or first router then repeater, etc. depending on setup).
Please let me know if the issue improves. Also, would you happen to have your order number so that I may look further into the matter? Thanks in advance!

No wonder it's been discontinued
I can get past the manual and the UI, etc but having to reboot it 2-3 times a day is just not cool. Would love to RMA it if I could.
Thank you for your review and my apologies for the issues you have experienced with PID 8070. A shame this didn't work out for your needs.. Now if you haven't done so already, I can help setup an RMA for a replacement or a return. If you would like me to proceed with the RMA, all I would need is the order # this router is under. Sorry again for the trouble and hope this helps!

Unreliable but cheap
Very unlucky with this item. The last monoprice router (pn: 8742) was much more reliable and cheaper. I wish I could buy that one again and get my money back.
PROS: Cheapest router with its capabilites
CONS: Frequently drops connection and needs to be rebooted (power cycled) way too often-up to 5 times a week
Thank you for your review. And I am truly sorry to hear of your experience you have had with this product. For now, if you prefer, I can assist you in setting you up for a replacement on the item if you haven't done so already. We do have a lifetime warranty on cables as well as a 1 year warranty for everything else. It will be of no additional cost to obtain a replacement, so please let me know if you want to continue. I would just require your order# to set it up. Thank you!

DO NOT GUY
Do not waste your money... With both of my laptops, when I open them, I always have to reconnect to the network by fully disconnecting, then reconnecting. Often time I have to reset the router as well
PROS: Cheap, when it works it is good
CONS: Always drops connections. Always have to reconnect upon booting up computer
Don't spend $20 on this router, better spend alittle more somewhere else. The router slows down to a crawl and needs restarting more than once a day. Every night I have problems authenticating with the router either from the laptop or a mobile device and have to restart it before it will connect the devices.
PROS: cheap, that's about it.
CONS: drop connections, doesn't authenticate wifi, needs to be restarted multiple times a day, slows down to a crawl
I have to reset this router daily, sometimes multiple times per day. Usually, it will disconnect after another device on the network 'wakes up' and attempts to access the network connection.
The device came with a giant fold out sheet that I thought was going to be very helpful. Instead, it was setup instructions in about 30 different languages. The setup instructions were very lacking, and there was no other documentation included.
It also uses the same port as my vpn / remote desktop software (default values), so I had a difficult time getting my remote connection to work since it kept trying to hit the router admin page.
I suppose this router might be for you if your very proficient in networking. Otherwise, spend a bit more money and get a better product. Like the title says, you get what you pay for here.
I used this as a bridge from my main router and now my cable modem router combo from the cable company. Initial setup as bridge I had to locate a doc in the support forms. but when I set up the cable companies modem router and gave it the same network name the bridge just picked up and started working no reconfig needed.
PROS: low cost, works as well if not better than a $80-$120 router from best buy or walmart.
CONS: Have to wait a day for the shipping can't pick up today in the store. buy two in case one is bad.
Unable to make it work as a bridge despite hours of trying. Discovered evntually from other reviews and questions this is a common problem for this product. I will be returning it. It probably works well as a router but I needed a bridge
