BEST ANSWER: Hi,
No it will require to Cat 5 cables, The system works well with two cables, if you have a coaxial cable there are boxes now that allow IR over this cable type. I use bot with not issues.

This requires 2 cat 5 cables. There are other devices made which will work over one, they tend to cost more and don't come built into a plate.

Is this wall plate rated for outdoor usage?
A shopper
on Apr 27, 2020
BEST ANSWER: No, it is not. If it installed on a covered deck out of direct contact to the elements, maybe it would last a good while. Maybe preserve it with an occasional squirt of WD-40? It could be installed in an outside electrical housing without any problem. Mine is indoors and works great! Good luck....

Hello, I have a question about the cables. The previous owner of my house ran a punch of Cat 5e cable and Cat6 cable. Can you mix the Cat cable types for the input/output obviously keeping them respective to each other? If so, is there a preference of which input/output, either 1 or 2, that I should connect the Cat 5e?

BEST ANSWER: I am not an expert, but the size of the cat5e and cat6 cable are identical. Only the amount of twisting of the pairs is different. This twisting helps to minimize interference which results in Cat6 to handle more info. Google the differences and you will see that both are compatible with each other. In this case of HDMI extender, the threshold for info is well within the capabilities for Cat5e and therefore Cat6 as well. Mix and match to your delight! My system works fine with Cat5e over about 50 feet or so. Make sure the HDMI cables are firmly inserted, though.

Both CAT 5e and 6 are supported on the HDMI via CAT5/6 converter. As long as the in/out runs use same cables I would not expect any issues. Its all.about the 8 wires in each cable and jack making a solid connection from end to end. I have installed several of these devices in business conference rooms and they work extremely well.

The Cat 6 cable is backwards compatible to Cat 5, so you can use them interchangeably. The Cat 6 is a better cable, so you probably want to use it in the direction of the greatest data flow, which would probably be output if you’re not uploading a lot of data.

As long as the distance of your cable run is short, say 50 feet or less, CAT5e should work just fine. Obviously CAT6 would be better and I would not mix them on the extender. However if that is all you have I would try it and see what happens. On a short run it could just work. Won't know until you try.

I am replacing an older home theater projector. HDMI input. I am feeding the video from a Bose Lifestyle V10/V20/V30 Media Center over roughly 25' of dual cat5e cabling. I would love for the HDMI over Cat5e to work, would solve many problems. However, I read in one of the comments that a "booster" was required for some reason. Wouldn't the bose provide that "boost"? DRCTV----Bose----Wall Plate///////Wall Plate----Projector. ( ---- is HDMI ////// is DualCat5E. )

BEST ANSWER: I have use these cat5e extenders over 45' with no issues. You should be fine on 25' extension. I recommend you use cat6 because of the higher capacity of the cable, which would give you better quality video. I used Cat6 for my extension.

I am unable to transmit a video signal from my receiver to a projector connecting using the HDMI® Over CAT5E / CAT6 Extender Wall Plate. If I connect a blu-ray or fire TV to this same set up without the receiver as the video pass through the video displays, but when I connect the blu-ray or fire tv to the receiver and send the receiver HDMI video out through these extenders to my projector the video does not work as my projector says it can't find the signal. I would like to question my setup to see if this will work. I would like to take a set top box and an amazon tv and connected to the respective input 1 and 2. Then I would like from one output running an HDMI cable roughly 25' to a TV. The second output would run a short 3' cable to a PID 8009 HDMI over Cat to a second tv. The first tv will have the RCA outputs running back to the media closet and connected to the Monoprice PID 10761 whole home audio. Two questions: Will this visual setup work? and Second would there be any delay in audio vs. the visual?

Monoprice HDMI Over Cat5e / Cat6 Extender Wall Plate (Pair), Single Port (1P), White

Monoprice Blackbird 4K 2x2 HDMI Matrix

Monoprice 6 Zone Home Audio Multizone Controller and Amplifier Kit, NO LOGO
BEST ANSWER: Thank you for your question.
The HDMI items would not work together because our matrices and HDMI extenders are only tested with a direct connection from a source device to a display.
While the 6 Zone would work in that situation I would keep in mind that you will not get surround sound audio unless you are using an AV receiver.

I purchased 5 of these devices, model 8009, for my project and simply cannot get a picture on any device that I have. All my TV's and Monitors are brand new. I have tried the Cat 6 lines that I have installed in the walls, no picture. I even pulled these devices from the walls and conducted tests on my work bench using manufactured Cat 6 cables fresh out of their packaging, still no picture. The closest thing I have gotten to a picture is with one of the pairs, I got a brief image for about 3-4 seconds and then nothing. Is there some trick that I am missing when using these devices?

It worked well for me for a year, and suddenly last night it stopped transmitting. The greed led lights turn on when I plug in a working HDMI, albeit one not really strong. As if suddenly the signal is not strong enough to transmit. I tested it with shorter cables and the same thing happened. Any ideas?

I have the older versions of the HDMI extenders PID 6177 and they fit the low voltage wall brackets fine but I purchase the new PID 8009 and they don't fit the recommended low voltage brackets I purchased from Monoprice. Measure once, cut twice.
Love the extenders and have purchased 12+ but the newer models are too tall to fit low voltage wall plates. Take the extenders to the store with you to make sure it fits.

Both work well.
We have two of these pairs in the “Special Events Room” at the Temple. One has the receiver mounted at the front of the room so a large screen TV can be connected there. The other has the sender mounted at the front of the room so a speaker can connect his computer to it. Both work well.
