Can the outer plate be removed so that it is just the insert? I’d like to use a different wall plate.

BEST ANSWER: Absolutely. Matter of fact, when you open the box, the two pieces are separated (cover plate, connector panel)

BEST ANSWER: It is not advisable to connect active cables to passive devices as part of general installation practices. While it may work for many people, it goes beyond it's specified capabilities.

It works with the following active cable: Select Active Series High Speed HDMI® Cable w/ RedMere®
Technology, 25ft. I predict it would work with other active cables but have only used this one.
I also used a 10 ft high speed HDMI cable (not active) on the other side to connect to a TV.

what is the total behind-the-wall depth? I realize that the adapter flexes, but there is a portion that does not which is attached directly to the plate.

Does anyone know if this will work with a 4k cable?

BEST ANSWER: Short Answer : Yes
Long answer: It will completely depend on various factors such as lengths of cables, types of cables, and ultimately the types of components used.
This passive adapter is not rated for a speed as it simply connects two cables together.

Would this bottleneck bandwidth if I paired it with an ultra high speed hdmi cable rated for 48Gbps?

BEST ANSWER: Based on the length of the cable on the plate adapter, I don’t believe it will, however I don’t really know for sure. I’m using the wall plate adapter to connect a laptop to a 50ft HDMI cable to a HDMI switch to a 75 inch TV. I do not have any problems.

Clean up your install
I used these plates with an in-wall HDMI cable for a customer. They love them, and the adapters seem to work flawlessly.

Met my needs.
As advertised. I think it would be better with either a shorter pigtail or just a back port especially if you are putting it on a standard electrical box.

Works great! Looks Ok. Could be more secure.
The transfer of data is great. This works to separate the in wall HDMI from an HDMI going to your receiver or other HDMI receptacle. While it works fantastic, the looks and quality could be better. The cable itself can just pop out of the hole if given enough pressure and does not fit well in a normal 1 gang box. would recommend a low voltage box. Would be better with screws securing it in place like some other versions I've seen on Monoprice for theater room cable management systems.

Really Nice HDMI Port
I purchased this product to drive a second TV from an HDMI splitter. I can use it for input or output depending on how I connect it in my Tech closet.
This product has a different screw pattern from a low voltage wall plate so you just need to drill a small hole and then screw the item into the Sheetrock.

HDMI wall plate
Plug is a snap-in and can be pushed out with some hard pressure, not a firm fit. Home use is fine, commercial use is not recommended. You get what you pay for on this one.
