Worked right out of the package with no problems! Didn't need to change any settings in the BIOS or DL any drivers to get it to work. Though having to use a 4pin power connector from the PSU was a little odd, it wasn't really a concern since I didn't have to plug in any extra fans into it.
Didn't work for me .Two Lg dvd drives and one Phillips .And yes did set jumper to master.Actually tried all jumper position.and yes had power to both adapter and drive.Lights came on on back of adapter but win 7 doesn't see drive. Too bad.
Very easy to install. I see in the product description there is a note to set the IDE drive to Master. This was very helpful considering that one of the reviews mentioned the lack of this instruction in the product documentation.
Now I can use DBAN to wipe my old drives and recycle them.
PROS: All good!
CONS: I wish this product had been a kit with 12inch SATA 15pin Male to 4pin Molex and 4pin Power Cable
Product Number: 7642, and a SATA cable, however the MONOPRICE staff person I spoke with helped me pick what I needed.
CONS: Even thou I read all the reviews and their details, a lot of negatives, I carefully installed the gizmo hoping I might be one of the lucky ones. Nope, she won't work. I should have just bought a new DVD drive instead $11 vs the $6+ for the adapter.
After I installed the adapter and made sure that both the adapter and the hard drive had their associated power plugs installed, the adapter light came on and seemed to work. However, the bios didn't recognize the drive. The issue was that I didn't have a jumper on the CS or cable select position of the hard drive. A quick fix of that and everything worked terrific.
PROS: It was simple to install and it worked fine.
CONS: Not much of a con, but the connector on the adapter that attaches to the male pins on the IDE drive is smaller and it is very possible to actually miss-connect the adapter by being off a set of pins.
