Is this suitable for running in a hot attic space?
A shopper
on Dec 30, 2018
BEST ANSWER: Will this also mean extreme temperatures summer/winter? I have used it in similar locations and it has been fine for several years now. I would not recommend exposing the shielding to sunlight. It often becomes brittle if directly exposed to sunlight.

Yes. I bought this and installed it in a hot Southern California attic in May 2017. Still performing great! Several of these cable runs exceed 80 feet with no problems, even with PoE.

can this cat6 be burial underground in a conduit?
samuel h
on Jan 27, 2017
BEST ANSWER: From How - To Geeks site : In my experience, it doesn’t hurt to combine both trenched conduit and direct burial wire. Expansion is great. Direct burial alone tends to get eaten rather easily if you have any sort of rat/mole/gopher digging around. Straight conduit can leak if done improperly, but the combo is a reliable combo. If you’re concerned about dealing with conduit, flexible “liquid-tight” grey pvc tubing is “very” easy to route, but does cost a bit more than standard pvc.

I am using this for network installations at my home. Each run should be anywhere from 20 to 705 feet in the walls. Cat 6 is clearly the best option for home use, but I see that there is an in wall 24AWG 550Mhz cable, and there is riser rated 23AWG 500Mhz cable. It might be a minor distinction, but I've noted that the 550Mhz cable cost a little more, so is there some advantage it offers over the 500Mhz riser rated one?

Monoprice Cat6 1000ft Blue CMR UL Bulk Cable, Solid (w/spine), UTP, 23AWG, 550MHz, Pure Bare Copper, Reelex II Pull Box, Bulk Ethernet Cable
Monoprice 1000FT 24AWG Cat6 550MHz UTP Stranded, In-Wall Rated (CM), Bulk Ethernet Bare Copper Cable - Gray
BEST ANSWER: As others have noted, it isn't clear that this product is rated for 550Mhz, since the box that actually arrives states that it is 500Mhz. And 705 feet exceeds the recommended length of Gigabit capable cabling, (~300 feet is what the specs say) so you may run into trouble with longer runs.

Can anyone report if they have put a cable certifier on this cable and how it stands up? Does it actually meet CAT6 standards?
Matthew K
on Feb 7, 2018
BEST ANSWER: Hi Matthew,
This cable's performance has been verified by ETL and it bears ETL verification logo on the packaging. The UL rating denotes the fire performance or fire rating of the cable, which is why the cable meets both ETL and UL.
That said, please feel free to tech support and we can share a fresh copy of a Fluke report.
Thanks for asking.

How do you achieve a CMR rating while using a PVC jacket? From what I understand, plenum should be used for CMR and CMP ratings. Also, the spec sheet attached to the page has conflicting information. see technical data vs features.

since this is 550Mhz, can it run 10GB or do I need cat6a?
Eric D
on Jun 28, 2018
BEST ANSWER: Will it work and does it meet the spec are two different questions. You will find a lot of places that will say it will work up to 55 meters. It will probably work further if you don't have cross talk from other cables. If this was a small environment where you had one 10Gb run and it wouldn't kill you if you had to repull the cable, I would probably try it. If this was a commercial job, I would go straight to 6A or 7.

What is the difference between this cable (8103) and Monoprice Essentials (31412)? I see the bandwidth listed as 550mHz for 8103 and 500mHz for 31412, but the detailed specs show same info for both, so I am not sure which is correct. If this is the difference between the two cables, is it the only difference? Should the different bandwidth ratings concern me as someone who wants to wire a home network with one of these cables?

Lots of ethernet cable available with copper coated aluminum conductors, also referred to as CCA. Solid copper is a better product. The Monoprice cable is competitively priced with the CCA products and is doing a great job for us.
