I have a Yamaha A/V 3060 receiver. I tried the Affinity banana plug but, they were too large. I read they need to be 4mm. Would these be the correct size?

BEST ANSWER: Sorry to hear the Affinity were too large. These banana plugs will be 4.5mm in OD. These should fit fine for the connector will collapse a bit when plugged in and expand to secure it in the port.

how do you connect cable to banana plugs ?
A shopper
on Jan 12, 2017
BEST ANSWER: Monoprice actually has a video that shows the stripping and feeding the wire through the center of the bottom half on non-plug half. You then flare the bare stranded wire over the end of that portion of the connector. It doesn't take much and when you screw the banana plug end onto the bottom half it traps all those flared strands between the mating surfaces. I give them a tug after installation to make sure the connection would fail during final installation. They hold nice and tight when installed properly. If you try to flare too much wire you will have difficulty installing the plug half but with a bit of practice you will be install each plug in about 1 minute.

Very simple: unscrew the base from the plug, cut the speaker wire to the length you need, and insert it in the base. Then tighten. I like to strip off about an extra 16" of the clear jacket, to get a little more wire on the connection.

Strip away the plastic sheath with utility knife or cable stripper. Take the exposed copper wire and twist tightly. Put wire thru hole in banana plug and lock in by turning screw. Easy Peezy! Do same for receiver speaker terminal.

N0, they are not stackable. The banana plugs fit on the end of the cable. There is no place to plug another banana plug into them.

Yes. I have them on an 8 port wall plate and there is plenty of room. They also worked fine on the rear of a HT receiver.

Can a 12 gauge speaker wire be soldered into the closed screw type banana plugs?
A shopper
on Jul 12, 2018
BEST ANSWER: I suggest you watch the video, as there is no need to do. The wires will not come out, and will continue to make good contact with the plug if you use the plug as described. I am in the professional audio business and can tell you that reliability is key.
Soldering will probably cause issues with the internal screw threads engaging. Hope that helps!

I don’t see why you couldn’t solder a 12 ga. Wire in, though it could be a tight fit. I’ve used 14 ga. stranded wire installed the conventional way without any audible sound degradation

Monoprice 5 PAIRS Of High-Quality Gold Plated Speaker Banana Plugs, Closed Screw Type

Monoprice Nimbus Series 14AWG 2-Conductor CMP-Rated Speaker Wire, 100ft
BEST ANSWER: I've done the same thing. Just strip 3/8 in" off each of the copper leads and twist. Put them in the banana clips and tighten. Then solder the tips it will penetrate thru the copper wire if you get it got enough . Then the banana clips will not come loose and the copper won't tarnish

Will the Nimbus 12AWG and banana plugs work well to construct a set of cables to connect between an AVR and the wall plate? I'm concerned about flexibility. All my in-wall cable runs are 12AWG.

Ok but...
These only work with smaller gauge or really fine wire thread. I tried with two different types and only one (finer) worked barely. This was with 14 gauge...

Quality banana plug, tricky assembly
These are good quality sturdy feeling banana plugs. They look good and are easy to distinguish even though the color band is quite small. They feel solid when handling and seem to seat and stay in good contact. My only grief was that it was not easy to get a good solid consistent contact. I am used to solder cup type banana plugs which are essentially fool proof once soldered. If you are not careful with assembly it is easy to get a bad or loose connection. just understand the process for installing and make sure to get enough stripped wire in the compression area. It would really help if Monoprice included a little instruction paper in with the shipment or even on the webpage.

The screw pinch would have been better
as advertised but in hindsight I wish I went the the screw lock down model. Peeling the wires around and tightening the fastener is an art form. Your fingers get sore, you have to allow the perfect amount of wire to be pinched in the apparatus and securing the screw down is not easy. That being said, it worked but it wasn't easy.

Plugs good in a pinch
I ordered several packages. In 2 of the first 3 packages I opened, 1 pair was too small and would not stay plugged into the speakers or the receiver. The other sets are not much better, because although they stay plugged into the speakers and the receiver, they are loose and wobble. I will be replacing these soon.

As with all monoprice items. These are as described for a fraction of what the big box stores charge.
