The Cat6 plugs I have used in the past have the inserts but only to assist with wire alignment because the plug itself offsets the incoming wires rather than Cat5/5e where the incoming wires are all next to each other. I cannot tell from the picture, are the holes for the incoming wires (in the plug) offset or adjacent to each other?
A shopper
on Jan 9, 2018
BEST ANSWER: The insert does offset the wires and is fully seated to the bottom of the plug, you have a raised point on the insert and you place it up when inserting the wires, the solid wire will come out of the top holes and the white/stripe wires out of the bottom. Trim the wires as close as you can get them and fully seat the insert into the plug. I almost always hear a nice click when fully seated. Then crimp. If your CAT6 has the spline try to pull a half inch out of the jacket. it helps with plug seating on the cable.

The Cat6 plugs that use the guide/bridge have offset pins so that when the connector is crimped four of the pins are driven deeper that the other four pins. That is why these connectors will not work without the bridge as the bridge is part of the whole connector when assembled.

are these connectors good for cat6 600 volt cable ??
A shopper
on Oct 26, 2018
BEST ANSWER: Short answer: No, at least if you're using the cable in the full capacity it was designed for. The cable you mentioned includes a shield around the pairs, and designed for more 'extreme' conditions. While you might get the connectors to work (some 600v cables have thicker pairs that wouldn't physically fit), it would be best recommended to use the connectors that are designed to work for the application the cable was designed for.

This a standard Ethernet plug for Cat 6 cable. I believe that your real question should be whether your network provider has you subscribed for the capability to receive/transmit a specific speed for a particular purpose, i.e., 1Gigabit being prominent right now. A Cat 6 cable (with matching plug) is just a cable that can manage sending/receiving in a certain speed range. This post will not let me include a link, so you will have to research “How to choose an Ethernet cable” for more information. This should help.

BEST ANSWER: Not really. The opening is slightly too small and the cable jacket needs to be stripped past the depth of the plug. It should go in past the opening so the plug grips the cable jacket. BEST ANSWER: These plugs come with a separate "collar" piece that you slide the cables into, then trim off the ends that are sticking out the front end of the collar. Then you push the cable with the collar on the end of it into this plug and crimp it down. the collar keeps the wires aligned for crimping.

I have Cat6 solid cable and I purchased the Cat6 stranded plug, will I have any difficulties or am I good?
Jacob B
on Aug 20, 2018
BEST ANSWER: You should not use Stranded RJ-45 plugs with solid cable. The Stranded plugs have two spikes that are designed to penetrate the center of the cable and go between the strands. The correct RJ-45 plug for solid cable has 2 x spikes on one side, and 1 x spike on the other side, and goes around/cradles a solid cable. Using Stranded RJ-45 plugs on a solid cable will eventual fail. You've been warned - you will have trouble sometime down the road!

What is the difference between solid and stranded? Can i use these on both ends of the cable
A shopper
on Apr 10, 2019
BEST ANSWER: The difference is that a solid cable uses one solid wire per conductor, while a stranded cable uses multiple wires wrapped around each other per conductor. So the pin that pinches the wire when you clamp it down that's the one defines the case. The solid RJ45 pins pinches the wire from both sides. Like placing an upside down "Y" over the round object. However strands will be like poking a toothpick on laddie's /man ponytail.
So if you know what type of cable you have, then by now you should know what type of RJ45 you should use.

Insert bad review here
Like many others, I didn't realize what "with inserts" meant. I had ordered CAT5e heads from Monoprice before and they were exactly what I needed. These CAT6 heads looked to be the same thing, but they are quite different. There's a PDF on this page with instructions from the 1800s on how to use the inserts, but look on YouTube for "two piece high performance cat6" or "cat6 loading bar" to really see how to use these.
I get it, and I see what they were going for, but it just doesn't add any value. The insert makes crimping cables harder and take longer. It does support 23AWG solid cables (also from Monoprice), but just barely.
I wish Monoprice sold normal CAT6 plugs; all of them are either shielded, have inserts, or are passthrough. The passthrough plugs have the same idea of simplifying crimping and actually do so - but they're much more expensive and generally need a different (more expensive) crimper.

Worked the First Time
The plugs worked fine for me. I got them to work the first time. I used them with the bulk CAT6 23AWG cable from monoprice. I did not have any problem with the size of the cable.
Tip: you have to cut the wires diagonally all together before inserting them into the inserts. That way you can insert them all at once. Check Youtube videos for instructions. My only criticism is that they should make these videos easier to find.

No way it can handle 23AWG
I got these after reading Q&A and reviews to make sure they can handle 23 AWG. Well, there is no way it can handle it. The through holes are too small to accept 23 AWG wires. Physically impossible. I totally wasted my money.

It is not comfortable
It could be easier and simpler without the insert

Easy for starters, great value
This rj45 plug made it so much easier for me to learn how to crimp.

Works great.
Worked perfectly for crimping plugs on end of _solid_ core cat 6 cable. Note they are not the passthrough style seen elsewhere, but are 2 parts and have a little cable comb that holds the wires in the correct order and fits in to the rest of the plug for easy crimping.
