Does this have resistors to protect the stereo inputs? Articles and videos I've seen say that directly connecting the left and right stereo channels to feed into a mono sound often produces poor quality sound and risks damaging the electronics of the stereo source, that a resistor is needed between each stereo channel and the combined input to the mono sound system. Does this, or any other Monoprice product provide such a capability?
Makes the audio mono just like I wanted. Useful because one side of my speakers is broken. Its weird that the hole seems to have wiggle room, but it still stays connected.
I bought this to convert a mono mic to stereo, for a device requiring a stereo mic. This adapter works great for that purpose. The connection is slightly loose on the female side of the adapter, but otherwise it appears to be of decent quality. I also ordered PID #7129 (the non-metal variant of this same adapter) at the same time to compare them, and this one is definitely better.
I had read the reviews and knew I was likely to have a problem so I bought two 7129's and two 7160's thinking I would get at least one part that worked without intermittent connection. No such luck. All four parts had the same problem as detailed in other people's reviews. These are sealed units so you cannot try to bend or adjust anything. It seems a flawed design to begin with. The ring connection has no spring contact so you are just hoping that it will lay across the metal hole well enough for the jack part to make contact. Well mostly it does NOT. They have no quality control and should not be sold until the design and manufacture is fixed so that they actually perform their function without requiring you to hold them in your hands to make the connection.
PROS: None.
CONS: Intermittent Connections require you to hold device in your hands during entire service of operation.
This is exactly what I needed to convert my mono microphone into stereo. Before I got this when I would plug my microphone into a stereo slot it wouldn't be picked up at all, I had to leave it halfway unplugged to get it to work. This fixed that and it was much cheaper than anything I could find anywhere else even with shipping!
PROS: -Low price -Works as advertised. -Splits the mono between both stereo channels evenly.
Nothing like what is mentioned in the bad reviews.
Despite all the bad reviews written for this product, I was in desperate need for a stereo to mono solution. Seeing that Monoprice seemed to be the only legitimate shop that knows what they are selling, I decided to take the risk and purchase 10 of this babies (to levy out the shipping costs). Boy did I make the right decision!
I use this product in several situations (with my PC and my PS4), passed some on to my wife and friends, and not a single one complained about loose connections or breaking audio. What more can I say? It works just as intended.
PROS: Works exactly the way I want it to, plays both left and right audio on my mono gaming headset.
Solid build quality, not flimsy etc.
CONS: Product came in a box way too big for the quantity I ordered. Could have saved some shipping costs on that.
