it comes with a foot switch input jack but no foot switch. I tried to ask customer service and they became very cagey about an answer saying it might mislead people? What's going on? The jack on the back of the cabinet says fs1 so if they don't offer one they should at least recommend one. It must have been designed for one! I tried two different NEEWER switches but neither worked. I'll have to keep trying. The neewer had a nice little light. Any suggestions?

No, mine didn't, but any on/off switch with a 1/4 inch jack works and they are very inexpensive.
I own Vintage Marshalls, Traynors and hi-end boutique amps, and now 2 of these for playing in true stereo. Very sparkly 3-D sound you can only get with tubes.

The Amp has an input for a foot switch but does not come with one. You can purchase a Fender single button foot switch from Amazon that will work well. Also, the Fender Blues Jr. Amp covers fit perfectly.

It probably uses a simple on/off momentary contact switch - very cheap and easy to make.

You always have to wait for tunes to warm up. the standby switch doesn't have anything to do with that. The standby switch takes the tubes out of the signal path so that you can change guitars or something with any "popping" when you pull out the patch.
This is a great amp. Great value. I have several name brand amps. This one keeps up with them pretty well. Go ahead and buy it, you won't be disappointed.

Tubes do need time to 'warm up' to sound good. I normally wait for a couple minutes at least before plugging my guitar in. Also you will notice no sound for 30 seconds when you first power on. Not a problem as tubes need to heat up to start working.

Yes. Please note, however, that you would have to wait for the tubes to warm up with or without a standby switch. Once warmed up, you can go in and out of "standby" on an amp "with" a standby switch, without waiting for the tubes to warm up again.

True, and yes you do need to wait for the tubes to warm up, and the need to warm up gradually is important. I can't be certain but I think there is an internal circuit the allows the tubes to receive power incrementally.

Yes . . . Tubes need at least 30 seconds to warm up enough to function. 12AX7s and EL84s, being small tubes, warm up quickly so not having a standby circuit is not an inconvenience.

It's only set up to run on 110v. The power cord is not removable and there's no selector for different voltages on the back. The only way you might be able to get it to run out of a 220 volt supply would be to use a Variac, or get a new power transformer rated for your country, but that would almost cost as much as the amp itself. Hope I was helpful. :)

My son also plays bass, and I, too, tried to start him out on a starter amp that didn't do the trick. I traded him up to a 50W solid state amp - and that was JUST enough for him to practice with one other guitar and drums. I personally use the 15W Monoprice amp with a five-piece band and have NO TROUBLE keeping up with the other instruments (I play lead guitar), BUT, I wouldn't try to use this particular amp for a bass guitar. I do not think the circuitry will serve the bassist in any way that would be satisfactory, or long lasting! I would recommend a used Gallien-Krueger of some sort, or something similar!

This is my first tube amp. I play guitar through it, and I've got to say, it is very nice. For bass, it works. I just tried it and of course keep the gain down, but don't expect anything more than bedroom practice. But guitar, I think it could handle it's own on a club stage easily, and sound pretty sweet. For the price...for the options...for the quality of build and components...definently a winner. I wish I has started out with an amp like this 30 years ago when I started playing. Hope that helps.

For bass, no probably not. Bass frequencies require significantly more power than the mid frequency registers that the guitar typically occupies. While this amp is practice worthy for guitar, it likely wouldn’t solve your son’s issues on bass. For the most part, modern bass amps are often solid state, either completely but generally at least for the power amp, because solid state circuitry can produce the 200-2000w more reliably and efficiently that full size bass amps tend to need to be heard.

"keeping Up" is really relative to what he's trying to keep up with. This little gem will not be heard much above a loud drummer. But on a church stage, miked up to a PA it would be great, or in a small venue such as a coffee shop or even a small fellow ship hall (40 people) it would do fine. This also depends on the type of music to be played. The amp will be much louder if driven, that is to say with the gain cranked up :) It'll be louder than any 50 Watt solid state amp for sure. Good luck

It is an excellent sounding amp for a guitar. I don't know how well a bass guitar would sound through it. I'm probably the exception but the first amp failed after eight months of bedroom use. Monoprice did pay the shipping both ways on the replacement. Now the replacement has failed after about six weeks. I have not contacted them yet on it. They have a one-year warranty. A great sounding amp, but I can't speak for the quality.

I wouldn't hesitate to use this amp for double-duty guitar/bass practice at home -- in fact, I do just that. I also use it for bass in the studio. I would NOT use it for practice with a band, And I wouldn't let an electric bass anywhere near it on-stage. Fifteen watts is usually more than enough for guitar, but pushing it that hard with a bass will be asking for trouble. (thinking more about the speaker than the amp itself...)

I can't comment on this for bass, as I do not play that, but this is a fine starter to intermediate instrument for guitar. The 1W to 15W flexibility is a great feature, The tone is nice and warm and the reverb is a good spring reverb. The speaker is in amps 2 to 3 times the price. All my fellow players who try it come away impressed. You cannot go wrong for the price as you note.

I just checked my monoprice amp and it does the same thing. In my experience this is not normal for a guitar amp (I own 4 other amps and none of them operate this way). My guess is it’s a cost cutting way to insure the resistance load (ohms) is correct for the amp? There’s probably away to modify this but I’m not sure how.
You also should know that there is a fuse on this amp that is in the chassis and if it blows you have to take the chassis out and replace the fuse. I actually had an amp tech move the fuse access to the back of the chassis but that mod cost almost as much as the
Amp. I paid for it because I like the sound of the amp.

I don't see anything about the power/voltage rating in the specs. Can this be used for voltage in both USA and Europe?

It is for USA 115-120 volt application. Just buy a european power strip converter to use in Europe and you'll be fine. I just played a theater gig in Atlanta with this on the 1 w setting through a vintage Marshall 4x10 cab. sounds sparkly, clean and excellent string definition. I'm not affiliated with the maker. Just giving you a heads up I get compliments on a strat or LP plugged directly into it. Been playing since 1980 in bands.

On the back, mine is marked for 110-120V 50/60 Hz. It looks like the manufacturer produces a 220-240V version, as there is a place to checkmark that, but mine is marked for US power. The cord is hard-wired into the unit.

I don't see any way to change the input voltage. The one I have is strictly for USA use. If you were wanting to use in Europe, you would need a transformer for converting the voltage.

BEST ANSWER: Mine are on the front panel (the "stage Right" brand, not the older Monoprice brand) right where I prefer them. BTW, it's a great amp that may need a little TLC but a steal even at full price.

The 1st models had the controls on top, but ever since (mine included) they are on the front. I prefer them on the front and the current models have them on the front still, to the best of my knowledge.

What circuitry/tone stack is this amp/preamp styled after, Fender Tweed, Fender Blackface, Marshall Plexi, etc.?
New User U
on Jan 11, 2018
BEST ANSWER: It's actually very close to a Laney Cub. My understanding is that the circuit is pretty much dead on... it just has a larger speaker. Laney's are very English influenced, so Marshall leaning. The overdrive is a bit more airy than thick syrupy. The cleans are very good, but different than a normal Fender sparkle clean. Overall I highly recommend this little powerhouse of an amp.

The tone stack is from a Marshall JCM800, with a smaller power amp attached. Overall it's not a direct clone of a Marshall, but it's definitely that flavor. If you want to listen to samples on Youtube, search for Laney Cub 12R reviews, there are quite a few. It's identical internally (down to the markings on the PCB), except for the reverb..

These are rebranded Laney cub 12r amps with Celestion speakers.....geared for blues.....they tend to be bright with el84 tubes but the 70/80 speaker balances it out quite nicely.I retubed with jjs and made it even nicer. They remodeled it this year with the controls on the front and call it stage right which is wonderful.I have 2 of these and kept one stock and its just fine without a tube change. They are very pure sounding tube amps.....I play rock ,blues jazz use all kinds of pedals and am very happy with it.

A lot of differing opinions here. But having owned many amps that people are mentioning (including this one). I would say it’s a Fender Blues Jr clone almost. Same EL84 power section as well. You can replace the first preamp tube with something different like a 5751 to give it a little more headroom before breakup if you want. That’s how I have it arranged. Sounds great. VERY fenderesque

I'd say it's closer to a Marshall or a Tweed Fender. Not as sharp in the treble as a new Fender. Also FYI they could have used a better way of mounting the board that the speaker is on to the outer cabinet. You might want to put in a size larger screws. Overall it's a really good deal - an all-tube amp with a 12" speaker for $200.00.

Where is this amp made?
Peter W. S
on Dec 31, 2018
BEST ANSWER: Hello. I hope i can answer in a manner to address any reservations you may have. I'm not certain but I think it is assembled in China but what would you expect and why would you care? Monoprice has an excellent reputation for customer support. In fact there's a YouTube review from a man in Australia whose Monoprice 1/15, 1x12 Combo arrived with shipping damage to the case. Monoprice didnt ship just a case. They replaced the amp AND didn't require he ship the damaged one back. So reliability? Check!
Performance quality? It sounds and behaves way better than it has any right to at the price and I build my own tube amps and have modded and repaired amps for global greats, having made a living in the Music Business for decades. I boiught one just to see how good it could be and was shocked at how well thought out and executed it is and above all, how great it sounds. I'd consider buying a second one to run wet/dry or in stereo for a huge Live gig stage sound but after the first week, my Son "borrowed" it.
On top of all this I found out about this amp through an online guitar gear forum mostly of professionals like me and at least a dozen I know of bought them and without a single exception all were equally knocked out. In all fairness we are unapologetic tweakers so a few guys tried other speakers and NOS tubes and such and mostly liked it even more but already dug the stock model. You simply cannot go wrong getting one of these amps. Nothing else is remotely as good a value. FWIW I have no affiliation with the manufacturer beyond being a very satisfied customer. Maybe you will become one, too.

Truth. I just bought my second one (stereo chorus time!), arrived in perfect condition. Very satisfied with it! Dare I say that it's better than the Blues Junior I had years ago, given that it has a master tone knob, an effects loop, and is less than half the cost, plus, to my ears, it sounds better. Some may say that's blasphemy, but I don't really care.
