I had bought the Cali DLX Plus a few years ago and have been very happy with it - I think I'm on my 4th set of strings now. I was curious about the HSS configuration. This unit has most of the same upgraded components (maple fretboard instead of Rosewood) but with a humbucker pick-up configuration at the bridge. There is definitely a little more "punch" going on there. I'll be using both guitars as I record, using the HSS for heavier-hitting passages. This one was a screaming deal - I guess there was an overstock of the black. I think it looks great, and likely sounds the same as it would in any other color.
Considering this is my 1st ever guitar, I'm not qualified to give a critical review. I can say I like the guitar, especially because of its value. It only has two minor cosmetic imperfections and needs some fret work. Rough fret ends and some frets rock a bit. The first thing I noticed was its weight: 9.6 lbs on my digital kitchen scale. It's heavy.
I changed the tuners to locking tuners and replaced the string trees with roller trees. Addressed 2 high frets & polished frets and smoothed the fret ends. Changed the pickguard to pearl. Added 500K push/push volume pot to split the coil on the Humbucker. Replaced the tone pots with CTS 500K pots. Replaced the tone cap with an orange drop cap. The Wilkenson pickups sound great and adding the coil split added to the tonal possibilities. After adjusting the Wilkenson Bridge it stays in tune after using the whammy! Get one for yourself today you won't regret it!
These have the upgraded wood, Pickups, and bridge. Not sure if a real game changer, as the standard ones have been outstanding. But what other guitar out there has these features at these prices. I do recomend these, but all the others I have bought as well.
The guitar plays fine, but let me tell you about how well this guitar can take on a bunch of stickers. It looks way better now than it did out of the box. I went with a cyber-punk, vapor-wave, glitch-art, space battle theme with a lot of high contrast blue, purple, pink, orange, and green. I even put some stickers that were meant to be used on acrylic nails in as fret inlays. There are stickers all over this thing, with the only place left untouched being the back of the neck. The headstock has stickers in and around the machine heads. The body and pick guard have stickers under and around the electronics. Even the back of it is completely covered.
Overall, very great guitar. If you're looking for a guitar to spank some stickers onto, you could do much worse than this.

Same old problems
WriteNice body/finish/neck. Problems lie in the uneven frets (causes rattle), nut was terrible, as well, with slots being to low on some strings. That being said, it's what you get when you buy from China. And there is no "Master Lutier" your review here. It must be at least 10 characters long. Consider whether you would recommend this product and what you like or dislike about it.
Great deal at about $136 for all the specs on this model but I did receive a guitar that did not clearly pass a quality control check. Bad case of fret buzz and the bridge humbucker was either installed poorly, or defective upon install. Also, like another review the pick guard was layed on sloppy.
All issues can be easily corrected and I am modding the guitar anyway, so not the biggest deal in the world. It is worthy of 4 stars in my opinion.
Got the black one on sale for a solid price. Unfortunately mine was not set up out of the box but it wasn't a big deal as I did it myself. Neck is nice with no fret sprout, frets are a little smaller than im used to, and they do need to be polished as the higher frets were a little rough.
Wilkinson trem and pickups are decent, singles look like ceramics and the humbucker sounds OK. Trem is a vintage style 6 screw with a nice beefy block. You can tell where they cheaped out on the wiring and electronics, and the pickguard had flaws, wasnt cleanly cut and had some burrs on the edges.
Bought this guitar with the intention of modding it and im pretty happy with it in that regard, especially given the price was a fair bit cheaper than similar guitars from other brands.
