Cable may not work with apple Mini Displayport to DVI adapter
Coworker got a new Macbook Air. We have an original Apple 24" Cinema Display - DVI only, not Mini Displayport. I also have the Apple Mini Displayport to DVI adapter which I have used in the past. The way her desk is set up I wanted a nice slender cable for her to plug into the Air. My plan was to use the Monoprice extension cable to connect the Air and the adapter and then plug monitor into the adapter. Good plan, but it didn't work. We tested the extension cable and it works when just extending Mini Displayport. If you add the adapter into the mix no DVI signal appears at the output of the adapter. The adapter works plugged directly into the Air and then to the monitor.

Since the cable works as advertised, this isn't a Monoprice problem. The cable is fine. Anyone have an idea how I could get this to work?

    PROS: -Appears well made.
-Functions as expected in normal circumstances

CONS: -Incompatible with Apple Mini Displayport to DVI adapter and old Apple 24" Cinema Display.

    Doesn't work with Thunderbolt
I bought this thinking I could use it to extend my Thunderbolt Display's stupidly short Thunderbolt cable. Well unfortunately I was wrong because my Macbook Pro didn't recognize my monitor once it was plugged into this cord. I think this is only good for Mini Displayport, NOT Thunderbolt, even though they use the same type of hole.

I gave this 3 stars because basically I bought the wrong cord. This cord might work perfectly for Mini Displayport cord extension, I have no idea. Monoprice should make it clearer in the description that this does NOT work for Thunderbolt.

    great product
We were waitlisted for a 12' vapor cable elsewhere (never appeared) as well as the cables at Monoprice. We took the chance on daisychaining two 6' cables together for the monitor in our electronics rack and it works great!

oh, and the price is great!
Forgot to mention that $15 plus S+H is an unbeatable deal to get the monitor away from the CPU on the MacPro.

    It works.

PROS: It relieves the pressure that the short-cabled Apple mini-displayport adapter was exerting on my laptop.

    Perfect for what it does
This purchase has an interesting story actually - and sharing so possibly others may be able to use it. With a new Mac and Thunderbolt display purchase and an old Cinema display that I previously had, I was excited to set up a 3 display setup. Unfortunately I found out that you cannot daisy chain a displayport display to a thunderbolt display, and here were the solutions that I was considering:

Apple's solution: Buy a second thunderbolt monitor (yeah right - like I am dumping another $1k after spending almost $5k on my new equipment)

Another alternative solution: Instead of daisy chaining the cinema display directly from the TB monitor, put a third TB device in between, like a hard drive that supports chaining - then chain TB monitory - HD - cinema display and that apparently works! But that means at least $400 in purchasing a TB hard drive.

I decided to take this route - since my new MBP has 2 TB ports, why not just buy an TB/Displayport extension cable so that I can run the cinema display directy to the second TB port of the MBP? And so after ordering this cable from Monoprice, I have the perfect 3 display configuration - yes I have to plug in an extra cable every morning but its worth the $$$$ savings any day.

    Thanks Monoprice!

    PROS: Reasonably priced, convenient product.

CONS: None really. The cable seems to be a little loose but it has never caused any issues so I guess that's just how it fits.

    P E R F E C T Solution
I needed this to allow my second monitor cable to stop pulling out when I turned my monitor. Now the heavy part of the cable (dongle) is resting on the floor with plenty of slack where it's plugged into my Mac. Thanks Monoprice!!

    Excellent Quality
The quality of this product is excellent. It actually fits into the side of my MacBook Pro a little better than the DVI adapter from Apple. This cable fits snugly and securely. The Apple DVI adapter was difficult to remove (which I do on a daily basis). Now I'm using this cable as an extension to the DVI adapter.
