Is there a way to stop the backlight movement? I want a steady backlight and it appears you can only adjust the speed up or down, not stop it completely. The tiny instruction sheet isn't helpful. I will be returning this keyboard if this "feature" can't be turned off.

BEST ANSWER: there's another key combo that cycles through the modes. It eventually gets to solid. I can't remember the combo and I'm writing this on my phone, but I seem to remember holding the fn key and the key with a gear icon ⚙️

The Monoprice manual for another keyboard applies to this one, as well. https://downloads.monoprice.com/files/manuals/13858_Manual_150911.pdf
Fn + 9 disables ripple mode.
Fn key is left of the space bar, just past Alt key.

That's correct. I just tried it. Function key and the key with gear icon right next to it. to change the modes. Holding the Function key down and using the up/down arrow keys allows for dimming of the backlight.

FN + MENU/Gear key. Keep hitting Menus/Gear key (next to Fn key). It scrolls thru the mode changes. One of those is steady backlight mode.

I love the keyboard...use it with my laptop as for the last year I have been using a laptop exclusively as I find it works fine for my needs now.
I really like the Monoprice Keyboard. I have been using it for a few months now.

Solid mechanical keyboard
Great value for a mechanical keyboard. Keys are not loud, good feel during typing.

Feels great, looks great, doesn't waste space
For me, this keyboard gets everything right. It has the full set of keys but is still compact. It feels great to type on.

Lighted keyboard & small footprint
The keyboard that came with my computer wasn't backlit and didn't fit well in my keyboard slide out.
This keyboard fits well in the slide out drawer and once I figured out how to change the lighting from the irritating scrolling backlight to fully lighted, I like it even more. The keys have a solid feel and I like the click while typing.

Great keyboard. Very sturdy
The keyboard is sturdy. The base is substantial, and the keys have a solid, well-made feel to them. The length and strength of the braided cord are satisfactory. Based on my recent experience with mechanical keyboards from Monoprice, I decided to purchase this. My shipment did not arrive as planned, but Monoprice customer support resolved the issue quickly and painlessly. A terrific price for a wonderful value.

Very cool, but not quite what I needed
I had never used a mechanical switch keyboard, so my ignorance is the main reason this keyboard hasn't worked out. The feel of the switches is very good, but I was seeking a quieter keyboard, and that it most certainly isn't. The default lighting is somewhat annoying, but I'm sure I could have turned it off. If you are looking for a keyboard that's great to type on and not worried about the volume it creates (not horrible, but louder than my MS), you will like this keyboard. I wish I could have kept using it for the very small footprint, despite being full-sized.

Seems well-made for the price, but it's just not for me
I bought this on sale for half-price; it was time to finally try out a modern mechanical keyboard to see if they might be preferable to my longtime-favorite and silent Logitech K740.
It seems surprisingly solid and well-made for the price, far from silent but not too obnoxious and quieter than the old original IBM PC. But it's not for me - in addition to the tiring extra keystroke effort and noise, the keys sit too high off the desk surface (that's also wrist-tiring) and I miss the audio-control keys.
Really disliked the "clever" key labeling that's just annoying and easy to misread when reaching for a seldom-used key. And one small nit - it would always come out of Sleep with CapsLock on; that drove me nuts when I'd forget to downshift.
So, I'm taking a pass and returning to the good ol' K740, of which I have two more spares in the closet because I've never used a better keyboard and I wear them out every 3-4 years so wanted spares in case they get discontinued or "cost engineered" and ruined. If you want a very low-profile and silent keyboard, check out that one, but if you just want to try out mechanical (like me) it's a good choice without a large expense.
