Is it good in wind?

BEST ANSWER: My daughter and I put it up in a hurry without reading the directions on a very hot day…the difference between in the sunlight and under the structure was phenomenal….a very large breeze whipped by and did pull up our initial loosely bound half hearted effort… but then ,after reading the directions and some quick adjustments, it held steadfast…

Yes, it held well under wind and rain. Nice quality, I just bought a second one because the price is really low for what you get, the picture makes it look really big with the table under it, don't expect that much room. I have this one to go over my tent, my last use we had a pretty good storm one night and my tent and ground cloth were dry.

I've used many, much more expensive wings on river trips. So far this one seems to be incredibly sturdy for the price, but I think it's called a "wing" for a reason. It'll stand up to a breeze very well, but don't expect it to stay up right in high winds.

It held on for us in a sudden but brief rain storm at 7000'. Be sure to secure it properly in advance. The guy lines are strong and for the price, it worked well.

With grommets tied down securely, dropping the end poles to catch less air, helps the tarp from ripping and cuts the potential blowing away.

Actually pretty decent. Just need to het longer stakes that what is provided or use sand bags. As with any tent too much wind is not good

How well would this work at the beach?
Scott U
on Jan 14, 2023
BEST ANSWER: I used this camping and had issues with both setup and the wind (but the ground wasn't holding the stakes very well, and this whole setup depends on the stakes). It is a great sun shade, packs down small, and can definitely be used at the beach, but those quick setup shade structures are probably better for the beach unless you need something with a smaller footprint and don't mind the setup.

It would work, but it depends on the weather conditions. This thing is huge. Most ocean beaches I have been to have lots of wind. This would be a huge sail. You need special sand stakes to hold it down and probably lower it. Lakeside beaches might be better, but I have had wind gusts there too. Wind is going to be your biggest factor.

For us it didn’t! It was hard to put the shelter up in windy conditions and the instructions weren’t very good. Also had difficulty getting the poles to stay upright in sand. Might be better with dirt at a campsite.

BEST ANSWER: it will work but you will end up having a completely different shape and product at that point. If you are thinking of eliminating the poles altogether then think of this as a lightweight tarp and use it as such. You would need to tie off at multiple points which are higher than the area your covering if you want to actually stand underneath it. The poles are what give it it’s shape, keep it off the ground, and it’s usability. If you DO use the poles and just want to use your railing to secure the edges, you have to factor in the height of the tie off point and the angle that you will create. I’ve done it and used it to cover a outdoor area in someone’s home. Used two poles and the fence/random objects to tie everything off, but It was very awkward and because you’re changing the shape/design you’re also altering how it reacted to wind as well as rain. It’s best to use it at it’s designed shape

Short answer is yes. Last time I used it we tied it off to a chain link fence and a clothes line in addition to staking the ground. I love this thing but keep in mind this is not intended to be a permanent cover.

It is made of lightweight camping tent nylon. I do not think it would last more than a month if there was wind. If its is a more sheltered location between buildings etc. It could last much longer.

BEST ANSWER: Need a rubber mallet before you get started. I have opted for different larger stakes; allows for setup in somewhat rocky area in higher winds. The first thing to do is to find a clear flat spot you want to setup the fly in. Setup is easier with two people but can also be accomplished with one. Lay the fly out, stretch out the tension lines (Note the tension lines at the main poles work best when they are in the shape of a Y (when looking from above). Once the fly is flat on the ground with the tension lines out you can loop the ground stakes into the tension lines. Note I typically have about 1 foot of take up in the line before I start. If its one person setup. Go Ahead and pound in the stakes around the perimiter (make sure to leave them loose) (Do not put in the stakes in at the main poles yet). Next pick a side and put the main pole up. it should fit through the loop. If you are doing this alone you may have to put the pole back down and adjust the tension lines so you can put the main pole up vertically without taking the stakes out. Once you have the main pole up, grab both of the tension lines associated with that side and step back and stake one into the ground and tension the line (light tension at this point) once you have that complete move on to the next tension line and complete the Y patter at the main pole. Tension the lines lightly at the main pole that is now upright. Move down to the second main pole and repeat the process. If just you on the setup don't worry if the first main pole falls at this point, as you can just pick it up and retention, just install the second main pole and tension lines. Once both main poles are up, tension the Y lines on them. Next you can tension the remaining lines on the left and right of the wing. If you have help I normally have both main poles going up at once. Then I would take one side an helper takes the other pounding in the lines on the side. can also add 4 poles are the wing corners for height as needed.

Very nice, but heavy
Overall, this is very nice! The poles are steel as opposed to aluminum, thus it is very heavy. Another small complaint is that the bag it came with is almost twice as big as needed. The proper sized bag would be a plus.

My review is advise not a complaint. I would buy again.
Good product. Hard to put up in the wind. I discovered the best way to put it up. The company should reach out to me to find out how I did it. The stakes are not large enough to assure it will stay up in the wind. Really, you need two sizes of stakes.

We love our new tarp! It's perfect for putting over a campsite picnic table in rain. It's also perfect to put over your tent if you have one that leaks a little. The tarp is huge! We bought two, plus one for our daughter and son-in-law. We love that it comes with well-built poles, too.
