Is it quiet or a buzz sound?
A shopper
on Oct 11, 2019
BEST ANSWER: Ours is quiet - can't tell the water is circulating unless we look inside. The water circulator is a plastic coated magnetic cylinder just a bit thicker than a pencil and about 2" long which is inside a smallish round "cage" centered on the floor of water oven. The motor that magnetically turns the circulator magnet is under the floor of the water compartment. We can't hear that motor when its running.

There is no buzz, but it magnetically stirs the water by rotating a metal bar on the bottom and that makes a rattle type noise. It doesn't bother me but it might others. With the TV on, I don't even notice it.

I think it is a bit louder than a regular circulation/ pump sous vide system. This is essentially a very accurate temped crock pot with a magnetic spinner in the bottom to swirl/ circulate the water

Very quiet. It has a low level hum, but you have to put your ear up next to it to notice. I don’t think you can hear it from 3 feet away.

Does this use a circulation pump or does it heat the water externally? Meaning, can liquids other than water be used as a bath as you can with the Sous Vide Supreme products?
A shopper
on Aug 2, 2019
BEST ANSWER: The liquid bath is entirely self contained, a magnetically attached paddle stirs the liquid to circulate it and the heater element is underneath and not in contact with the liquid at all.

It's got a spinning magnetic stirring stick in a cage in the center of the bottom. You certainly could use it with other liquids, but if it were anything organic you'd want to clean it afterwards. I'll occasionally add a couple of drops of dishwashing liquid to the bath before I dump it out and let it run a while. It's certainly a lot easier to clean than the stick style.

You would want to put the food in a plastic bag with whatever liquids or seasonings you desire. The water in the pan is heated by a circulation pump. No. Do not use anything other than water in the machine!

The water heating element is inside the pan itself. There is a sort of magnet that circulates the water around for uniform heat. All in all, it is a good device, especially for being enclosed.

The heating element is integrated into the housing of the unit. The inside of the unit is smooth, and there's a small circular indent for a magnetic stirrer that circulates the water.

I don't see any reason why not; just make sure they are tightly closed so water does not get inside. I would not hesitate to do so. Beware though, this Sous Vide does not reach boiling temperatures so canning is not an option. After I bought my first one, I liked it so much that I bought a second one for the RV.

Inside dimensions: The inside dimensions are 12" long, 8 1/2" wide, and effectively 5" deep. The inside is roughly rectangular with curved sides and curved corners. The water bath can be up to 6" deep, but the magnetic circulator takes up about 1/2" of depth right in the middle. And the rack supplied takes up another 1/2" or so.
Outside dimensions: 14" x 11" x 9" tall with the lid on.

This water oven is only 700 watts? Seems to me the Immersion cooker at 1100 watts would heat up and cook the food items faster.
A shopper
on Jan 26, 2019
BEST ANSWER: Thank you for your question.
Depending on what temps and how much you are cooking you can cook certain things faster.
The wattage would not really be the only factor that would determine whether or not food would cook faster.

The watt rating on a heating element is based on the amount of water you are Heating. The small amount of water in this unit is heated up rather quickly with the 700 watt element. The 1100 watt elements are for much larger containers

Great Unit Highly recommended
Great unit. Holds temp nicely. Great cover prevents water loss. Rack holds items properly. We cooked a large beef roast for 24 hours at 131 degrees. Came out perfect. We use it often, only use our larger immersion unit with a stock pot for large items. Bought it on sale for $30 shipped.

a little tricky
I really think you'll need a vacuum sealer to use this properly. I had a very hard time getting my steak sealed in a bag that could be placed in this device. Otherwise it did what it was suppose to do.

Great experience so far!
Works great! Just cooked the best filet mignon I've ever had. It was absolutely amazing. As for the reliability? I can't comment on that yet as I've only had it for a few weeks. But, I will say that I'd much rather have this all in one system than buy the sous vide and all the accessories separately.

Great easy-to-use SV machine
I will keep my immersion circulator and polypropylene tub around for large cooks, or for when I need to sous-vide at two different temperatures. But the vast majority of my SV cooking is going to be with this water oven from now on, because the water oven is so much more convenient to use and set up.
Pros:
Performs great
It is self-contained and includes useful accessories.
It is very well insulated - holds in heat well, and does not need to be placed on a rack/mat to protect countertops.
It also looks great -- like a fancy crock-pot, vs the "science experiment gone wrong" look of my immersion circulator + tub setup.
Cons:
You're limited to what you can fit in the tub. For me, this hasn't been an issue yet -- plenty of room to do several steaks at once, for example. But you don't have the option of just using a bigger tub like you do with an immersion circulator.
The magnetic stir-bar is super cool! But it is noisier than my immersion circulator.
Overall - highly recommended!

Super easy to use. Really like it.
So far everyone in the family loves it. Had a 19 lb turkey that I used the breasts (boneless) as our first try. It was 49 cents a pound so would not be too much of a loss if it failed. Oh my, that was the best turkey ever. It didn't make it to a plate. Everyone was eating slices right off the cutting board.
We then did one of the leg quarters (bone in). Just as good. The dark meat fans were happy happy.
