So I plug this in to my router and the other end into my macbook? What does it provide exactly?

BEST ANSWER: If you have a 10 gigabit router and some device that can use speeds above 1 gigabit, it will give you additional speed. Common uses would be connecting to network storage for video editing/intake or for using fiber internet service that is faster than 1 gigabit.

Short answer -Personally if I were you I would stay away from this, especially if you don't know what it provides. ( No offense intended ) . Long answer - It provides 10 gbps Ethernet connection. You would need to insure your other hardware IE: router/switch/modem also support a 10 gbps connections. Most of the current hardware only supports up to 1 gbps connections. If you bought two of these and you had two mac books ( or any other device with thunderbolt 3 ) you could direct connect them and transfer files at 10 gbps. But I think you can do that with a normal thunderbolt cable and skip the Ethernet adapters. Unless you need to transfer a lot of data right now internally in your house, I probably wouldn't bother with it for a few more years when a lot of the equipment is cheaper..

Probably not a 10G router. It's actually a 10G switch that you need.
The aim is to increate your LAN throughput with the 10G adapter as opposed to the standard 1G we see on consumer devices.

can this be used with your current fios router at home?
A shopper
on Feb 12, 2019
BEST ANSWER: It's not for use with your router (unless your internet is more than 1G each way). This is for your LAN throughput. You would need a 10G switch, nothing with a router.

Yes, but you will be limited to the speed of your router's wired port. If that is 1 Gigabit you are spending more for speed your can't access.

I don't understand what this 'adapter' actually does? It says: The Thunderbolt™ 3/USB-C™ standard allows you to connect multiple data and video devices to your Windows® or Mac® OS X® computer using a single Thunderbolt/USB-C cable. How am I hooking up multiple devices when there is only 1 input & 1 output? Could you describe a practical application for this device?

BEST ANSWER: Thank you for your question.
Sorry for the confusion, this would be used to get an Ethernet port onto computers that may be missing one but have USB-C ports instead.
It would only have one port so you would want to use a port on your router.

Hey Monoprice, how about a SFP+ version?! While 2.5/5Gbps is common over twisted-pair, for 10GE, most people use SFP+ modules/DAC cables/AoC cables instead of 10GBASE-T!

Doesn't work on MacOS 10.15.
I downloaded their driver tn40xx_10.12-1.52.2.pkg and it doesn't work. Their Q&A make it clear that they are not updating their driver to work with latest MacOS. Doesn't sound like respectable business to me.

Great in Windows. Not great on Mac
Did not work on MacOS Mojave. I tried on different Macs without any result. On the Mac I installed Windows with BootCamp and it worked great. The design is good. No fans, it gets pretty hot, but no noise or issues. Build quality is really good. It comes with a nice pouch bag to store and a 1 feet USB C cable.
