can this be used in a front porch fixture, obviously outdoors? i want to use it without a hub to be able to set an on/off schedule, our router is right inside the front door, so wi-fi range won't be an issue.

BEST ANSWER: It is NOT rated for outdoor use. BUT I do have one outside in a 'covered' fixture and it is doing fine. As long it is will not get wet (dampness has not been an issue for me) then you should be good. BUT again it is NOT rated for outdoor use and it definitely is NOT weather-tight!!! So it depends on your comfort level of how weatherproof your fixture keeps the bulb is only a decision you can make.

I did the exact same thing that you’re talking about with mine. I would just make sure that your front porch light doesn’t get super wet. Are utilized IFTTT to have it automatically adjust for sunset and sunrise. It works great and I’m super happy

We only used the bulbs indoors but they seemed quite resilient. Can't see why they wouldn't do OK outside as long as they .were inside some kind of glass enclosure,. We're using them between 20 and 30 feet from the router without a problem.

This the exact application I use. I have two bulbs outside that use the Sunrise/ Sunset feature in the app. Obviously you will need to keep the light switch for the porch fixture in the On position. Works flawlessly

I have used them indoors and they work nice, the spec allows for outdoor use. I would put in a wifi switch for the front porch light through just to be on the safe side then use a standard led bulb in the socket.

These work well as exterior lights. I have them set up on a schedule. They have disconnected once and had to be reset. But you can’t beat the low price. Note the wattage is light 60w bulb.

Can you use this in a ceiling fan ?
A shopper
on Aug 15, 2018
BEST ANSWER: So Far, i have purchased three of these smart lights, and they are working out fine. I did try to put one into a 3-way lamp. You know, lamps that adjust the brightness of the bulb with each turn of the switch, and it would not work. If your ceiling fan only has one setting, i,e, you simply turn the light on and off then it should work fine. I have Alexa and the google home mini devices and this smart bulb works with both. Also, you do not need to buy the hub that some lights require to make them work. I hope that this helps you...Oh, you can adjust the brightness of the bulb with the app or by voice. Simply Say, Alexa, dim the living room light to 50%, and shazam, the light is dimmed to 50%. Or, Alexa, turn on/off the living room light and it will turn off/ on. With the app, you can also set the light to come on at a time you specify by using the app.

I see no reason why not. Most illuminated ceiling fans have a chain or other control to control the bulb (s). You would simply have to turn the light control to "on" and leave it there. (The only "problem" I've had with this bulb is to remember to keep my hands off the wall switch. Out of habit, I'll slap off the switch and then wonder why Alexa won't turn it on or off - duh) Using these bulbs on a fan sounds really handy.

I would think you could use it in a ceiling fan that accepts a standard size light bulb and gets constant power. One that powers the light through the fan controller could have issues.

This is not a standard LED lightbulb.
There is circuitry inside that handles the wifi communication, timers, and programmability.

can these be used in a enclosed light fixture?
Greg G
on Jul 8, 2018
BEST ANSWER: Yes, just keep in mind these tend to be a little "taller" (longer) than some bulbs. If a standard bulb is tight in your fixture, you may have some issues getting it to fit inside the fixture.
Depending on location and distance, you may want to join it to your network from a standard light fixture that is closer to the WiFi router. Once connected, smart devices tend to be a bit more forgiving on signal strength. (Not a personal experience on this specific bulb but other devices.)

It works fine without an Amazon or Google "smart" speaker. The primary control method is via phone or tablet - install the app and make an account, then find your bulb or device. You can turn on/off and set brightness. Make schedules and the like on the screen. A voice control speaker like an Echo is purely optional if you want it.

BEST ANSWER: Today, Microsoft announced that its digital assistant, Cortana, will now work with IFTTT and a number of new smart home devices, such as the Ecobee, Honeywell Lyric, and LIFX. Note the above answer is from a computer search using Google Chrome using the following as the search, "Does Cortina work with Google Assistant"on Jan 31, 2019. Additional is also available using that search in Chrome. Jan 31, 2019. If you have a computer PC system with Windows 10 and a router, your computer system can possibly be used to control these lights using Cortina and the Alexa App on you computer. I haven't tried this but it is worth a trial to see if it works. These lights work with both Google Assistant and Alexa so the trial is well worth doing. You may need to add a wifi range extender depending how far the lights may be from your router.

Can this bulb be turned on with a normal light switch? Or do you have to use the app or online assistant to turn it on? In other words, is there a way to have it turn on whenever it receives power like a traditional bulb?

Has anyone else noticed two different types of bulbs in the app? I have one bulb I’ve had awhile and another I got a few weeks ago. They have different power buttons on the all devices page. I can control the brightness on both but in scene settings it only works on the newer one.

Good, but not quite perfect
Works as advertised. Easy to set up, which is good, because it loses all settings when the power goes off, or when you accidentally use the light switch to turn out the light instead of an app.

Great value
I just wanted a simple light bulb I could control from my couch. It's easy to turn it on/off from the app and adjust the brightness. Had no issues with connecting them to my WiFi. Kudos to monoprice!

works as expected
works great. Exactly as expected. I made a small error when i connected it and turned it on before reading the instructions, but after a few minutes, I had it reset and the setup was a piece of cake with the stitch app.

Nice bulb
Took a few minutes to set up. one of them I had to set up twice. You just have to be patient with them. Could be my slow wifi. No issues now.

Not for everybody
Was not compatible with my Fios internet router. Rather than hassle with a return I gave them away.

Not reliable.
Purchased two of these. One would not enter pairing mode and I need to get a replacement. The other needed to use adhoc to pair and then died within a week. the one that worked would not always follow the schedule either. I have a hard time trusting that the replacements will last.

Buy it.
I had four bulbs hooked up with google home in 10 min. They are cool, and I'm buying more. I wish the dimming were a little less, but they can fix that in firmware updates. The google home routines are amazing.
