BEST ANSWER: Thank you for your question.
If you are referring to the displays the receiver would connect to they would simply use the HDMI port that is on the receiver boxes to receive video and sound.

I noticed there are 8 HBaseT outputs in the back, but also it appears there are 8 HDMI outputs for each HDBaseT. Does this mean each pair of HDBaseT/HDMI output can result in a mirror image? Thus being a 8x16?

To be even more technical, it is an 8x8x2 (wherein each HDBaseT output has a cloned HDMI output).

Can they be used simultaneously? per tech support you cannot use HDBaseT and HDMI ports at same time. have to pick which connection you want to use.

Does this downscale? Ultimately 1 source in 4k going to a 4k TV and a 1080P provide a clear image on both displays? I have it narrowed down to this Matrix and another that states it does Downscale in the description.

BEST ANSWER: It doesn't appear to. I started a 4k stream on my Fire TV that played fine on a 4k but wouldn't play on an old 1080p Samsung. The web UI doesn't give any options for up/down converting the video format, but you can impersonate an EDID to force the source into different formats.

No, however you can add a downscaler prior to the display that is 4K HDR compatible. Monoprice 30460 would potentially work, or the RTI VDS-1x.

Monoprice, please check the manual for 27842. Regarding the IR blaster setup pictures starting on page 13. It is very confusing because it calls to plug the IR emitter into IR out, but the IR emitters are all labeled "IR IN" on the cable itself.
So either the manual has the wrong picture for an IR emitter or the emitters and blasters are labeled incorrectly on the cable itself?
Please confirm as it makes the installation very difficult and causing confusion.

How do the analog audio outs work - does the corresponding HDMI output need to be connected to an actual display for analog audio out to work? Will the matrix decode Dolby/DTS/TrueHD/Master Audio input formats for analog audio out? If the input is multi-channel (5.1+, PCM/Dolby/DTS/TrueHD/Master Audio) will the matrix mix it down to stereo, or just discard all but the L/R channels?

Monoprice Blackbird 4K 18Gbps HDBaseT 8x8 HDMI Matrix Extender Switch over Cat6 with 8 Receivers and 8 IR Kits, 70m, HDR, HDCP2.2, PoC, GUI and De-Embedded Audio: Product # 27842.
1a. do the audio outs mirror the Cat6 outs
1b. IF the audio outputs mirror the Cat6 outputs, will both still output full audio?
2. I take it there is no ARC function. Are you planning to include ARC in your next edition
3. I take it there is no App to control it on Apple or Android. Are you planning this for the next version?
4. Are the components used for the IR system the same as on previous Monoprice Matrix, e.g., the 1x8
5. Can I use the receivers I have from my 1 x 8 Monoprice Matrix, at the "far" end of the Cat6 run.
6. My outputs go to 8 TVs around the house. They all control the same 7 devices from the "ALL" IR output on the main unit (i.e., 3 receivers, cable box, PS4, DVD, VHS,
7 ). MOST IMPORTANT: How do you suggest splitting the IR signal from the "ALL" out at the back of the main unit, so that there are 7 IR emitters? I have tried to do this with a Niles IR block splitter but it doesn't work.

Better than expected
I bought this after my very expensive name brand matrix died and was 28 days outside of warranty...... I'm even a dealer for said dead matrix and they wouldn't honor the warranty + 28 days. Regardless I couldn't beat the price, especially when it was on sale.
I had some EDID issues right away, but once those were dialed in, every thing is good. Switching between sources is fast! Hidden gem, the HDMI outputs will automatically downscale, when enabled to lower resolution displays. The HDBaseT outputs will not. Also the HDBaseT output video quality has troubles with black levels on my Samsung Terrace Outdoor TV when using the HDBaseT input. When I use the HDMI or HDBaseT output with a Balun the issue is gone.
Warning, the manual included is not the manual online. Found this out when writing my Savant control driver. The commands are completely different.

Beat switchers that are 3x the cost
This matrix switch has worked flawlessly for me. I had originally purchased the Blackbird 4k Matrix Switcher that had 6 Extenders over Cat6 (part number 39670). I had problems with that first switch and is why I upgraded to this one (part 27842). The problem with that switch was that the IR remote didn't work correctly. Also, I was simply driving too many various EDID profiles that the other switch could not handle correctly. This matrix switcher does. I have 4k 60Hz input signals coming into two inputs, an Xbox One 4k 60Hz signal into another input ? that that input needs to downgrade to 1080p when playing a BluRay disc. Also have a 4k 59Hz signal coming in from a PC as well as an old Xbox360 at 1080p. This switch handles all of these with no problem. Another issue I encountered with the previous switch (number 39670) was passing DTS audio over the Cat6 to HDMI receivers. This switch does that no problem, but it also gives you the added bonus of being able to have outputs not only via Cat6 (Cat 7 in my installation), but allows you to also output simultaneously over HDMI. With that capability, if you were doing a large installation in a restaurant or a bar, you could have two televisions being sent signal from each output, one via the Cat6 output with a receiver at the TV end, and another via an HDMI cable. That effectively turns this into an 8 input, 16 output switch.
I did some testing with this and had a 270 foot length of Cat7. I put ends on the cable and hooked it up, and the receiver worked fine, received solid power, and was able to display a 4k 60Hz signal with Dolby Digital Multichannel audio without any issues. My fully installed system only has a maximum run length of 120 feet, so I have high confidence that this system will be solid for years to come.
Another really nice feature of this switch is that you can output digital audio at either the switch itself, or you can do it at the television. This opens up a lot of opportunities for creatively hiding and wiring your receivers and amplifiers for audio.
The GUI doesn?t have as pretty of a ?feel? as some of the switches out there that cost in excess of $5k, but I?ll take that for the massive savings. Even though the GUI isn?t pretty, it is very effective and lets you do everything that you want to do.
I will disagree with one of the other reviews here regarding the manual. My switch did come with a paper manual in the box, although I tended to use the manual linked in the product description on the website because it was a little easier to read.
Finally, when I called Dan at Monoprice and told him that I wanted to exchange the original switch I bought (part 39670) due to the IR remote not working, there were no questions and I had an RMA label the very next day. Awesome to have a company that you can get hold of a person and that will listen to what you do and help you get it done.

Wonderful
Ive installed this matrix and everything seems to work just fine. I used it to replace an Atlona (1080p) matrix. The description didnt mention that this matrix has downscaling so I ordered 2 separate downscalers for TVs without 4K support. I returned them once I found the feature was built in. Theres only one feature I miss from the Atlona unit. The Blackbird requires 3 IR commands (input, output, enter) to switch sources. This required programming a 3 button sequence in each universal controller at the destinations in order to switch sources. The Atlona matrix only required a single source IR command (since the matrix knew which destination was sending it). Overall, Im very pleased with the Blackbird. The extra audio outputs greatly simplified the use of my theater sound unit in my den. It also solved a problem I previously had with occasional blackouts from my most distant destination.

I want to give it a 5 start bc how cool the POE modulators are and the functionality of 8 in 16 out via Ethernet and HDMI but this thing caused me some pain all because Monoprice for some reason doesnt put the user manual in the profuct box sometimes and this cause an issue bc of how the EDID works on this switch. I am running 7 4k TVs and one 1080p projector for a church. If I would have know up front that the switch reads the EDID from the first output device which was a 4k TV it outputs the same EDID info for the remaining outputs which cause some issue in length. We ere playing a 1080p video pn all displays wondering why our lengths of 140 to 160ft werent working and the device says up to 230ft for 1080p but not knowing thr switch was outputting a 4k signal bc of the way it outputs the EDID cause us a lot of worthless work of rerunning cables for shorter lengths. Teouble shooting why our projector had a no signal smh bc it was trying to read a 4k signal on a 1080p projector. Do Bet
