Any chance there is a remote included with this model?

BEST ANSWER: The Monolith subwoofers do not have any type of DSP built into their amplifiers so no remote is needed. They are very easy to get dialed in by using your amp or receivers room correction setup microphone.

The best way to determine the differences and similarities is to read the descriptions and comparison charts on momprice Web site about these products. I can say I prefer the ported sub for various reasons. I suggest one read a review about these subs posted by audioholics for a clear understanding of the advantages and disadvantages of ported and non ported monolith subs. That article helped me decide which was best to meet my purposes. You can't really go wrong with either. I will say that with the ported you get the benefits of both because you can plug the port to simulate the sound ofa sealed sub. Monolith subs produces outstanding clear, clean sound.

One is ported, the other is sealed. You should be able to google the use of each, but the general opinion is to use a ported sub for home theatre applications, and a sealed sub for audio quality where bass definition needs to be highest.

From what I can see, the M10-S has just been released and is a sealed sub, where the older one can be sealed or ported by removing the sealer from the port hole.

I think I depends on what you're using it for, room size, acoustics, etc. I have between a 35'-40' square room size with my setup, and I can't have it too loud so as to annoy the neighbors. I have an Onkyo TX-NR777 A/V receiver hooked up to the speakers in a 7.1 configuration, all THX certified. PC and Samsung Blu-Ray as well tied into the A/V. I have never turned it up past 50% and plenty loud. It's plenty of power with my 10" Monoprice subwoofer and the rest of the speakers. Personal choice I'm sure has a place in the mix too. Yeah, it's kinda on the low end, but it suits my purposes with what I can afford as of now.

The Monolith by Monoprice 10" THX Select Certified 500 Watt Powered Subwoofer should fill the bill nicely for you. My pair of the 10" monoliths produce bass in music that perfectly rounds out the bottom with smooth, solid bass. Certain movies cause the Monoliths to project bass which you can feel. My listening/viewing room is approximately 8'x15x'20' and the 2 subwoofers perform with my DefTech tower speakers perfectly. My opinion, along with many others, is that the volume of the listening space is most important in determining if you need something larger, but these do a great job for music and movies.

This really depends on the size of your room, distance from listening position to sub(s). Larger is always better, you can turn them down if you need to (who would do that???). If you go to the AVS Forum you will also see that people suggest getting two, but regardless, if you run your receiver's room correction server, it should set the output to its optimum settings and you can adjust from there. Just so you know, I have the 10", and it is plenty powerful for my large space.

I think size of the sub is selected based on the size of the room. My room is open floor design with a listening area about 2,100 cubic feet. This sub is plenty of power for my room. The Level knob is on 40% and Level in AVR set to standard 0db, (and usually bass on all devices I listen music on set to max).
Also, check THX site for their certification specs. THX Select - rooms, up to 2,000 cubic feet in size; THX Ultra - rooms 3,000 cubic feet in size

BEST ANSWER: My sub sounded great out of the box. However, in the few months that I've had it, bass has improved. I've always been a proponent of speaker break-in. Even headphones that I buy get run for 30 to 40 hrs before I listen to them rather than just getting used to their sound. My sub might improve even more as I don't use it for anything but movies in my bedroom, so it gets limited use.

I would say it's a safe bet that all speakers need some form of a break in period. Turn on some heavy base hip hop and leave the room. I doubt there is a hard number of hours where you need to this, to each his her own.
I will say there is a noticeable difference between first turning it on and now. Best of luck, cheers

It's usually recommended with any speaker. This sub will not dissapoint. Trust me.. Had a SVS PB12 and returned it and bought a 2nd Monolith 10. The flexibility of not only being able to go between THX mode and extended mode but also sealed and ported was the difference maker.

As a general rule for subwoofer coverage, its better to have 2 subs providing coverage than just one. Two subs will help provide more even coverage at the listening position and provide a wider listening position. Also, with two subs, any modes or standing waves can be dealt with a lot easier with 2 subs than just one. Subs are generally non-directional: your ear cannot tell where sound below 40 hz is coming from. Placing 2 gives you better chances of great sound.

You seem to "think" that you know better than I do as to what equipment I have. You would wrong. I have a dbx Driverack PA+ speaker management system (final out from a rack of EFX gear) which has XLR balanced outs ONLY (including RIght bass and Left bass channels). No amp. I would recommend a subwoofer isolation platform. It's basically a little stand that you place under the subwoofer to prevent vibrations by acoustically separating the subwoofer from the floor. Vibrations can make low frequencies sound a bit muddy, so it'll help tighten the bass too. I use a pair for my dual Monolith 10's and I think it sounds even better.

I have 2 10” subs and my room is 300 square feet and sounds awesome so you definitely can go larger but I definitely recommend 2 subs for that size room

Can you add maximum SPL in the various modes (THX, etc.) to the spec sheets for all of these new subwoofers? Thanks!

For long term, is a pair of tens as good as the twelves at normal listening levels? Main application music. And what is the trade off in sealed mode vs using an actual high quality sealed subwoofer? And how accurate musically is vented mode vs sealed?

BEST ANSWER: All the Monolith subwoofers are very musical, and I think you will find them to be tight, even in ported mode. The main trade off in sealed vs ported is output down low.

Are there any issues with placing the subs on their side? The THX 12 and THX 15 height will get too close interfere with my screen and make reflections. Particular concern of amplifier air flow and over heats?

Im thinking about buying a 10" and then later adding another monolith THX sub.
Would having two different sizes be a mistake or should I stick to the same size when I add my next one?

When I run Yamaha YPAO calibration for my setup and the Monolith 10" sub is set to THX Reference Level, my receiver thinks there is no sub present. Do I need to go into the calibration results and manually add the sub, or am I doing something wrong?
New User U
on Feb 20, 2019
BEST ANSWER: I'm not extremely familiar with YPAO, but you may need to turn up the gain on the subwoofer so the system recognizes the subwoofer is there, or manually add the subwoofer before beginning calibration. Other auto EQ systems have a function where you set the subwoofer output level manually to 75dB before it will calibrate.

Couldn't be more impressed for the money
Wifey gifted this to me for Christmas to replace a Polk 12" psw505 in my 7.1 atmos setup. My initial plans were to run both, but it's unnecessary as this thing gets kinda' scary haha. Sounds absolutely incredible in a 1,350 cubic ft room that is open to the dining room, kitchen and 2nd living space. I can feel the bass now and it's non-directional. My window panes and dishes rattle at half volume. Love it

10? monolith vs old 10? JBL - no brainer
Purchased the 10? Monolith sub V1 to replace an old JBL 10?. I put this sub in a room that is 19Wx14Dx10H= 2660 cubic ft and it opens up into our kitchen. It is a larger room than what is recommended by monoprice for this sub but it still rocks. If you are the average guy the 10? will most likely be plenty for you. Great with music and killer with movies. Sitting on the couch you can feel the bass. Totally worth the purchase. Beware it is big.

A Worthy Beast
The 10 THX Subwoofer is big and relatively heavy but its 10" driver produces room filling thump as it reaches down very low. At its price point it's hard to find a better bargain. If you have up to medium size AV room, this sub should be high up on the list of the ones that you are considering.

Real Deal for under $500
It takes a couple days to break in and get the capacitors good and charged up. Took about 8-12 hours on breaking in the speakers itself.Once it was semi-broken in it was amazing and keeps getting better with each day(within first month after purchase)
It is physically heavy, with packaging expect a good 85lbs!!
