Monoprice Alpha Ceiling Speakers 6.5in Carbon Fiber 2-way (pair)

Monoprice ABS Back Enclosure (Pair) for PID 4103, 6.5in Ceiling Speaker (Will not work for PIDs 4102 or 4104)
BEST ANSWER: Thank you for your question. The ABS Back Enclosure PID 11941 will be designed for our Caliber 6.5" speakers (PID 4103). It will not fit the Alpha 6.5". I do apologize for any inconvenience. We would carry Metal Can Back Enclosures for the Alpha series, Product # 14364 would be for the 6.5". I hope this helps.

The specifications on the Alpha Ceiling Speakers 6.5-Inch Carbon Fiber 2-way say the cutout is 8.66" x 3.43" (220 x 87 mm). Shouldn't it be a round hole? If it is should I assume that it would be an 8.66" round hole?

Honestly I'm guessing, but the 3.43" could refer to how "deep" the hole must be into the ceiling. For instance, I have a bulkhead under a heating duct with insufficient depth available.

I believe the opening depth needs to be 3.43". The wording is confusing...

Is the woofer itself actually 6.5" as listed in the specs? Or is the entire speaker diameter roughly 6.5" (with what, I'm guessing, would be about a 4" woofer)? Because that's what it looks like from the pictures. Also, what are the tweeter and woofers crossed over at?

BEST ANSWER: Maha,
The number in the description is the diameter of the woofer, so for the 6.5" that is the diameter of the woofer and the cutout for mounting is roughly 8-inch diameter. There is a cardstock circle template in the box for the cutout. I however do not know the crossover specs.
Enjoy!

BEST ANSWER: The Cutout dimensions in the full specs are right on. I used the circle cut-out template which came with ALL of my speakers which gave me an exact fit. I mounted my speakers between the joists in my basement with the greatest of ease.

How many of Product # 13684 can be wired in parallel and/or in series per channel?

Monoprice Alpha Ceiling Speakers 6.5in Carbon Fiber 2-way (pair)

Monoprice Commercial Audio 4x120W 4-Channel/4-Zone Mixer Matrix 100/70V with Digital Media Player (No Logo)
BEST ANSWER: It depends upon how many Ohms in total you are trying to accomplish. Identical speakers in series (similar to Christmas tree lights) add up with each speaker sharing the applied power. The other method of parallel connection of speakers lowers the total resistance as seen by the driving amplifier - a far more dangerous and damaging type of connection if too many are connected in parallel improperly draws excessive current from the amplifier. This would be the best application for a 'speaker selector/impedance matching" device. Those have 'transformers' that 'upscale' each speaker's impedance so that the driving amplifier is not overloaded. The downside of those devices is the labor and wiring necessary to bring each speaker's cables back to one location - a lot of attic work!

I need to run as many as 8 speakers per zone. How do I make that happen?
- Reply
- Jonathan W on Nov 10, 2017
I just want to confirm 4 speakers can be wired to each zone(or 2 speakers per channel). Each zone has a 4ohms, 70v, or 100v wiring option. 4 of these Alpha speakers wired in parallel would be 2ohms of total impedance, which to much for the 4ohms label. I don't see a connection for both left and right channels on each zones output, so I don't understand your prior answer of "2 left 2 right per channel". Just on the input do I see left and right options. If I understand it correctly, both the left and the right channels are combined on the output. How should I connect 4 of these speakers on a zone when the label says 4ohms is the impedance? In parallel? which terminal, 4ohms, 70v, 100v?

RR & RL home theatre
I installed these as my rear channels for my 5.1 theatre. They are roughly 9ft from the listening position with the tweeter facing said position as much as possible. For their purpose their great. Clear, bright, decent mid (they'll warm up with break in) and good quality. Pair with a good sub and you won't be disappointed. Easy instal and they look great.

Buy em, don’t hesitate, best round speaker available from Monoprice
Great speaker, great value, could be better. I am really happy with these, but I feel there is a lost opportunity to provide a backer box / rough in ring. Especially, since they have a blocked port, that can be opened to create a fuller sound.

Only had them a few days. Soooooo...........
just installed these Alpha series in ceiling 6 inch speakers. I tied them to the Monoprice 25 watt Hybrid tube amp. I am very pleased with the performance so far. I have not cranked em all the way up yet. I have not had them in long enough for break in period. I have gone half way and they sound remarkable. One thing to note. I have a android phone, the music app I have used for years STINKS. I just tried using a app that is a Equalizer and sound boost in one and it made a HUGE. Difference in sound quality. I am so impressed with these Alpha series speakers paired with the cool looking Hybrid 25 watt Tube amp. Will take them to full power in a week or so. Will try to let you know if there was any clipping.

Excellent!
Amazing sound. I put these in place of my ceiling paradigm speakers and they are so much better. I used the metal enclosures so I won't hear it upstairs and you can't hear anything. Very satisfied!
