Can this be bolted to a wall or desktop, rather than clamped?
Google E
on Dec 7, 2016
BEST ANSWER: this can be bolted to a desktop. It comes with an attachment for that specific application. You will have to drill a hole in the top of your desk to insert the bolt through. And then you'll have to crawl underneath the desk to tighten it. I do not believe that this could be used on a wall.

Not sure about wall, but there are parts in the box to let you use a bolt (included) down from the bottom of the base and through the surface of a desk. I have a built-in desk with no space behind it, so this is how I have mine mounted. Be aware, though, that the base will be offset from the center of the monitor when you push it fully back.

Will this mount allow you to swing the monitor back and down so that half (or more) of the monitor is below the surface it is clamped to? I would use the clamp mounting method for the arm

BEST ANSWER: I have an LG ultra-wide monitor on my arm. I even tried to spin the monitor around (with the back facing me) to see if I could get it lower than the table top. Any way I moved it, It only went down so far such that the bottom of the monitor was at table-top level, not below.

Yes. I have mine clamped to a custom table and am able to swing them pretty low. I would guess that at least half of the monitor can go below the plane they’re clamped to. (I don’t have them here with me so I can’t be absolutely certain how low they go)

The center of your VESA mount (center of rotation pinion) will go as low as 170mm from desktop. The amount of monitor that would go below plane of desktop would depend on size of monitor. The pdf download is available that shows measurements.

No, it wouldn’t work for that. The up/down hinging is only on the “higher” knuckle of the mount, not the knuckle close to the surface mount. So the part closest to the monitor only lowers as far as a few inches above the desk surface.

The monitor will not go down that far with these arms. If you pivot the monitor to face the wall it will go down to where the bottom of the monitor is even with the table top.

BEST ANSWER: To determine compatibility with a TV mount to your TV, please determine the VESA mounting pattern on the back of your TV. It is the 4 screw hole square formation on the back and it is usually listed on the TV specs or you can find out by measuring it yourself(measured in millimeters). Our TV mounts range from 50x50mm to 1000x700 and up so please check the TV mount specs for compatibility as well. I hope this helps, thank you!

I'm the original poster. I bought the monitor arm and mounted my Dell U3011 without any problems. Like Roman M said, you just have to tighten the resistance settings on the gas spring. Initially I had them cranked so tight I could barely move the arm, but then I found the sweet-spot and now the monitor moves where I want it with just two fingers. As usual, another solid product from Monoprice.

Is there a wider bracket that can be used for this mount if my desk is thicker and the normal bracket won’t lock to desk?
A shopper
on Mar 4, 2018
BEST ANSWER: Not that I know of, but you don't have to use the clamp.
The clamp mount wouldn't work with my desk's overhang, so instead I chose to use the simple grommet mount straight through the desktop. To brace my desk's relatively thin surface I added a 6"x6" piece of 3/4" plywood, underneath the desk, drilled to match the bolts. It's clamped down _tight_ and is very stable with my Acer 34"

BEST ANSWER: Hi, the base arm only adjusts 270 degrees and would not be able to get a full 360 degree rotation. If this was the issue, the limit is by design.
But if you mean the base arm does not move at all, it's possible that the material might be binding, either because it is still new, possibly from big temperature changes, or maybe from not being used in a long time. if you have penetrating lubricant or WD40, it might be worth putting some in to see if it'll help. Hope this helps, thanks.

Make sure the nut is inside the cutout so it doesn't spin when you tighten the bolt. Hi, I've owned this monitor a couple of years and I am having exactly this problem now. The bolt doesn't adjust the tension anymore.
I know it is no longer under warranty, but could you provide directions on what you mean by "additional thread locker" to stop the bolt from "backing out on its own"?

BEST ANSWER: Hi, the bottom joint might have seized up from not being used after assembly at the factory. You could try moving just the bottom arm using steady force from the far end area of the bottom arm to try to rotate. If it isn't budging, you could try loosening the bolt/screw that is securing the bottom arm.

Are you talking about adjusting the hex bolt on the underside of the of the 360° swivel? I wasn't sure that could be adjusted as it's really, really tight. Any tips or tricks to get it moving? If I'm not careful I almost knock the lamp off the table every time I move the monitor.

Going to be using potentially 2 of these. One with a LG 29UB55-B Ultrawide Monitor, 11lbs without the stand, and a 27" Acer Monitor. What would the minimum thickness of desk be that I can use to clamp onto? I'm looking at one that's around 1/2-1" thick and I want to be certain that is going to be sufficient.

on Jan 6, 2017
BEST ANSWER: Hi, yes, those thickness measurements fall within the clamp's range of .4"-3.3". If you are planning on using two monitors, you might also want to consider the dual mount version of this product, (search 15525).

Enter a reply to IS :).I appreciate the answer there. I was considering the dual mount, but with the way I have things, I'll have to have one on one side of my desk and the other on opposite side so it just wasn't gonna pan. Hopefully I can pick 2 up this week. Thanks again for the reply!

How do I rotate my monitor 90 degrees, from horizontal to vertical?
Do I need to unscrew the mount on the back of the monitor, rotate it manually and reattach?

Is there enough clearance from the desk to be able to rotate a 32 inch monitor 90 degrees to portrait mode?
Jay L
on Mar 31, 2017
BEST ANSWER: Thank you for your question. Yes, you should have no issues being able to have a 32" monitor rotate 90 degrees to portrait mode. However, you may run into issues depending on the location of the mounting holes on your monitor. I would recommend raising it to its highest point to ensure it clears the desk. I hope this helps.

BEST ANSWER: Hi, this mount will not work as designed if mounted upside down. The gas spring counteracts gravity at the right orientation to allow the monitor to hover, but if upside down, the gas spring will push towards the same direction as gravity and will push the monitor down and prevent easy adjustments. Hope this helps. A different option you might want to consider is to mount a gas spring on a wall. It would still be right side up but could give you options, check out product 16125 if it might work. Hope this helps.

I need to be able to move the monitor's up high in the morning and lower in the afternoons. Is this frequent movement of the monitors quick and easy? Do I need special tools to make the changes or can it all be done by handling the monitor in the direction I intend it to go?

BEST ANSWER: Thank you for your question.
As long as you adjust the tension correctly on the hex screw between the two arms you would have no problem moving the arms on a regular basis.

How deep is the clamp? My desk has about 1.6" of free space before it hits a metal bar. If the clamp can go over the metal bar, it's no problem, just not sure where the pressure plate on the clamp lines up. Does it cover about 3" underneath the desk? Thanks!

on Nov 23, 2018
BEST ANSWER: Hi, this monitor mount needs around 3" under the desk to be able to clamp on the desk edge. The metal bar you described would probably get in the way if it's that close to the edge. It might be possible to use wood spacers to create a flat bottom around the bar to clamp on. Or you could consider drilling a hole on your desktop to be able to use the included through-hole mounting hardware. Thanks.

Thanks for the reply! What's the least expensive part you sell that uses the same quick disconnect ? Do to have a non-articulating static wall mount with the same disconnect?

Definitely need to adjust the tension for big monitors
So I have a 32" LG 4K monitor (26lbs) and bought this to support this monitor. At first the monitor basically fell right down after mounting it. So I tried turning the tension nut (at the base of the upper arm) with the included hex-keys (all tools included!). a few turns made no difference. I was about to give up (note the +/- signs are opposite what you expect of a screw to tension something) but it took probably 15+ turns to get it to support the monitor. But after that worked perfectly. I assume they leave it super loose so it doesn't try to burst out of the box, so if you have a hefty monitor you might want to crank down a bunch on the tension nut before mounting your monitor.

Does the job at a great price
One of the most reasonably priced monitor arms on the market, the Workstream monitor arm does the trick and supports my 34" monitor with ease. I will say that the instructions don't really tell you how to adjust the gas spring pressure to counterbalance the weight of your monitor, but that was easy enough to figure out with some playing around.

Great product, great value. Easy to set up.
This is a great value for a monitor arm. Easy to set up, sturdy, high quality build. It has made such a difference in my day to day use of my desk. I saw reviews complain about mobility but these users must not have read the instructions. Everything is clearly explained and it is easy to adjust tension to insure that your monitor is exactly where you need it to be.

Great Monitor Arm
Worked perfectly for my Dell 32" (S3220DGF). I had tried some other monitor arms, but they couldn't support the weight of the monitor. This one was exactly what I was looking for and at a fantastic price.
