Is this a solid blue or blue "burst"?
Jon H
on Nov 20, 2020
BEST ANSWER: This is a blue burst so the color transitions from a light blue acound the pickguard and then transitions to a darker shade of blue. It's very attractive in my opinion. Check out youtube as they have some reviews of this model with the blue burst.

You can see by the picture that the outside edges are a darker blue. They mix white in for the burst. I got one. It's not dramatic enough to be called a "Burst" ; but it is two toned. It's not solid blue...

Bought 2 of these (in 2020) for modding, and if they have "10s" I'll eat them. They seem to be a curious mix of "super extra light", on the GBE strings ( 8-10-15) and "super light" on the EAD strings (24-32-42). Maybe they changed them at some point. Makes them easier to play, so they have that going for them.

Not certain what SSS, SSH or HSH mean, but I replaced the pickups in mine with no hassle at all. Also, it really really needs better pickups. The one that come on this guitar are like ice picks in forhead.

Single, single, single; single, single, humbucker; humbucker, single, humbucker. A lot of strat style guitars come with SSS pickups but, the body is routed for SSH or HSH. Making swapping in humbuckers as easy as getting a new pickguard.

That is obvious from the photos. The description says the guitar has "large open cavity allows for complete customization." The question is about the route the body has for pickup upgrades in the future.

between 1 3/4" and 2", It's exactly the same as a real strat. It's got curved edges so I can't measure exactly. I was a teenager in the sixties and I had two strats. When monoprice decided to do a replica, they went to the sixties. Even the things which I thought needed improvement were copied 100%

I would a clarification on the neck, is a 22 fret neck or a 21 fret neck? I ask because I know there was some confusion with an error in the specifications on the other Strat & Tele-style models and the number of frets.

It is a 22 full fret neck NOT counting the very last or ending fret as 23, so it's considered a short neck.

What gauge strings?

They were a standard set of strings. I replaced mine with Earnie Ball super slinky strings. (Light gauge). Somewhere in the $6.00-$7.00 price range. They’re slightly easier on the fingers; but the action is set really low so any size would be easy to play on. Thanks

Are the necks on all the Cali Classics the same shape (obvious some are rosewood and others maple)? The white one I just received has a pretty thick neck (Almost a thicker U), but a reviewer for the blue version notes a very thin neck. I'd prefer a Modern C neck like on the DLX and was wondering if a different color would give me that.

I took a chance and ordered a Sunburst as my first Monoprice guitar. I'm so happy with it, and I must say that it has about the very best neck size and shape I've ever played. I am hedging about buying a White one because I'm afraid the neck won't have that same feel. Hope that returning it if it doesn't is not a problem, because I want to be as happy as I was with the Sunburst.

Is it possible to get a blue burst color with the rosewood fretboard?
A shopper
on Oct 27, 2019
BEST ANSWER: No!
Rosewood is on the CITES list of banned exports, due to the wood being endangered.
No manufacturer can sell genuine Rosewood within the USA (and possibly other countries as well).
You'll have to buy a standard neck separate (which usually has a dark wood like Indian laurel, or Ebony).

Since the manufacturer and distributor are forthcoming with specs on some and less on others, most reviewers I read stated that the finish is a poly, but I myself and not stating that as a fact. It's only what I read on several reviews.

If you can play like them, you can get their sounds... mostly. Of course, this is $100 guitar, so not quite the same as a real Fender Strat... But it is a really good value for the price, much like a Squier.

Be careful ! It might not be what you thought it was Gonna be ?? Has good Bones
Decent Bones had to do some Mods to it and still having a Problem with Gritty Frets or Fret Board ?? Its un-playable at the moment since me and my Luthier can figure out the problem . Monoprice gave me $10 bucks back but I don't feel that's enough ? Youtube Guitarists purchased this exact Model and none mentioned this problem . Would not recommend any Monoprice Guitars after this . Best thing was the Included Gig Bag ????

I love it!
They really did this right! My guitar came in perfect shape and alignment. Nothing needed but a few fractional twists of the tuners. Sounds great! Well-built, solid, perfect finish and outstanding maple neck. Fret wires have been nicely finished. Tuners seem great to me, and guitar stays in tune very well. Pots and pickup selector are smooth and quiet. Stratocaster design is hard to beat. I'm tremendously satisfied with this guitar.

Beautiful and plays great!!!
I love it! It is beautiful and was well packaged. Then I noticed some paint scratches, and rough paint edges, along with some pvc plastic peaks around the pic guard and knobs. Instead of returning it, I completely dismantled the guitar, sanded all of the paint and pvc flaws, then used Smichrome to polish everything back to new. After putting it all back together, it's the most beautiful and well-playing guitar that I have ever owned!!!

Unbeatable Deal, and Better Than Expected Attention to Detail
I'm very impressed with this guitar. It would have been a bargain at over twice the price, and it's an absolute steal at the price I paid ($79.99 shipped). The tuners are generic/unbranded, but don't slip, skip or bind. The neck has got a very nice satin back, there was zero fret sprout, and fret ends (though not polished) didn't have any ugly tool marks. The neck is straight, and once tuned up, I found the action to be fine. No fret buzz, no unusually high strings. The finish is flawless, the pickups are fine, all of the electronics (pots and switch) work as they should, and it sounds great. It includes a surprisingly well padded gig bag, which makes the entire package amazing. Though I've owned a number of guitars through the years, I don't do more than noodle around, as sadly, I never had the dedication to learn to play. Still, I have great fun, and decided this time around, I'd put about another $80 or so into it just for kicks. I replaced the tuners with Jin-Ho locking tuners, the trem bridge/block with a Wilkinson, and the string trees with roller string trees. Everything I picked up was a drop in swap. I'm confident that for my total of about $160 into it, it's far nicer than a Squire Bullet, and quite possibly nicer than anything else in the $199 and under category. Monoprice simply could not offer you more for the money. This is a no-brainer.

This is one sweet little guitar!
Ordered it after watching Darrell Braun's YouTube review and his additional video on how to make it even better. Fell in love with the blue burst finish. His review was dead on. My tuners do hold it in tune tho so haven't rushed out to replace them. It arrived and was decently set up. I did remove one string tree and move the other over, as per Darrell's video. I Love this guitar! I had an american strat several years ago but sold it because I just wasn't enjoying it. The Indios' neck has a slightly flatter profile which seems to be working well for me. I'm able to do barr chords better now. This guitar has far exceeded my expectations. If anything wears out I'd be happy to do upgrades to it then. The neck is awesome. This Indio is really lightweight, making it easy to grab and play. I'm tempted to buy another in case anything happens to this one. I just play at home for my own enjoyment.

Great Value!
I made the decision to buy after reading several good reviews. Also a great deal on sale at 20% off at the time of purchase.
When my guitar arrived, the shipping box was torn wide open with the guitar practically falling out of the back of the box. My first thought was that the delivery driver had been jamming on it! But in all seriousness, the guitar was undamaged inside the gig bag upon inspection.
The Needs Improvment:
The stock tuners are bad and would not stay in tune. So I have installed a set of Fender locking tuners. Problem solved.
My Summary:
Overall I really like the guitar. The body and paint is beautiful and the neck is very comfortable and plays very well. My future mods will be installing a new Fender tremolo bridge and a loaded pickguard.
What is really cool is that you can install any type pickguard configuration such as HSS or HSH as well since the body since it has a bathtub cavity.
