Would this work plugged straight into a Raspberry Pi?
    A shopper on Mar 29, 2017
BEST ANSWER: Probably not. As far as I can tell, the RPi may have a line level input, and this has a microphone level output, much lower, and it is on the 4th connection of the 3.5mm plug, which works for most smartphones. It also need a few volts of bias to work properly.

So it does work really great on an old iPod Touch I have. However, I was hoping that despite not being mentioned in the description, that it would work for my Microsoft Surface Pro, which utilizes a similar TRRS jack. The Surface microphone is really bad and I wanted to use this to record meetings while notetaking in OneNote. Unfortunately, Windows only recognized it as headphones and no microphone.

For what it's worth, it also does not work on a Windows Phone.

I'm a little disappointed I can't use it for what I intended to, but the product itself does exactly what it is described to do and it does that pretty well in my testing.

Works Great - But man, It Reeks

PROS: Great, compact little microphone. Plugs and Plays well with my iPhone 5s and iPad Mini

CONS: Wish it had a headphone out so that you can monitor the sound.

This thing Stinks! Literally! Whenever I take it out of the package, the room is infused with a horrible industrial smell.

    Fun Little Mic
I bought this on a whim because it's a cheap little mic and I've always wanted to have a handheld device that could capture audio for samples and whatnot. This mic works great and sounds great. Obviously when using it you want to remain very quiet as it will pick up motion and breathing, etc. very clearly. It's technically a directional mic, but proximity matters as there's not a ton of isolation. Possibly a foam popper-stopper could help. I don't know.

What would be really sweet on future models is a way to plug a headset in so you could monitor the audio while recording as well as a joint so you could position the mic at a 90 degree anglejust sayin'. Also, it smells like it was dipped in formaldehyde.

Still, I've had a lot of fun recording drunks and other random strangers who think I just have an old phone with a huge antenna.

PROS: Great mic, sounds good and works well with Android phones.

CONS: as mentioned above, this mic is a stinky little bugger. No way to monitor your recordings as the headphone jack is blocked. Could use a pivot point so you can control the mic direction.

    Cool little mic
I use this mic on my cell phone (nexus 5). It is much more sensitive then the standard cell mic. Very useful for recording video or just audio. I use it when I have an idea on guitar that I want to remember for later. I tested it for recording normal conversations and was very happy with it. Even though it cylinder gets smaller to help it fit into the phone even with a case, I had to ether take my case off or modify it (cut a little but out) in order to plug it in. This is to be expected though because most cases are designed to accommodate headphones and not microphones. 100% definitely would recommend

    PROS: -small

-around the plug, the cylinder gets smaller probably to help it work with cellphone cases

-heavy for the size, feels like it is constructed well

-very good sound quality for the price

-totally worth the money for a toy to mess around with or a tool to use

CONS: -small (could be easy to loose) but it comes with a little pouch that you should use

    PERFECT for my needs!
My syndicated radio show often requires recording at peoples' offices, etc. I sometimes use a digital recorder with built-in mics, but this mic and my iPod Touch work better to just get the guest and not the air-conditioning and other "room noise."

Far, FAR better than those little pill-shaped plastic ones found everywhere. But find a small foam cover and slip it over to prevent pops from plosives when recording up close!

PROS: Quality construction, great pickup for interviews.

CONS: Needs a foam cover as a "popper stopper" and it would be better if one was included (even for a dollar or two more!).

    Low Gain
I purchased this to use with some Audio measuring apps. The Microphone works however I was getting better results using the internal microphone of my phone. The Gain is Very Low.

PROS: Works with My Iphone 5

    CONS: Low Gain

    Works great
It works great. I have probably had 10 of these. I keep giving them away to clients so that they can record our coaching sessions.

    Microphone for cell phone
Using to pick up sound from a speaker system. Voice quality without the microphone sounded like the voices were underwater. Quality with the mini microphone was great.

Seems to help a bit, but the microphone on my phone, a Oneplus One, is pretty good, you can see in the youtube videos on my channel one the first one with the stock mic and the second one with the external mic.

    PROS: works as advertised

CONS: have to hold the phone kind of weird, if you hold it as you usually would your hand is in front of the mic

    Nice mic. Has potential
I used this with my iPhone 6. The volume of recorded voice is essentially the same as without a mic, although slightly tinny in tone.
The best thing about this mic is how much ambient noise it filters out.
I did my comparison using the voice recorder function in the iPhone. I hope to use it in a video recording after I make some modifications to it.
As of now, I definitely think this is a worthwhile purchase.

PROS: Ambient noise is greatly reduced.
Very snug windscreen (two are included).
    Soft carrying pouch.

CONS: Slightly tinny sound to recorded voice.
Really wish they made this with, or sold a version that had 90 degree 1/8" plug for better directional pickup.
