Overdrive Pedal

Add the classic sound of an overdriven tube amplifier to to your pedal board using this Overdrive Pedal from Monoprice!

This pedal produces a warm, natural sounding distortion effect, similar to the sound of an overdriven tube amplifier. It features gain, tone, and level controls for precise control of your tone. It also features true bypass, so it will not alter your tone when not actively in use.

The case is made of metal for long-term durability. It is powered using either a 9-volt battery or an AC adapter with a negative tip/center, such as our 9V Power Supply for Guitar Pedals (PID 611690).

Meets my (modest) standards

For the little bit that I have tested it, this pedal gets a range of overdrive sounds from a little "dirt" or "grit" for classic rock to full-on "crunch" distortion for hard rock or light metal. This was the most important criterion for me, as I dislike pedals and want one overdrive box that can do it all. The true bypass is an important feature, too. Other than that, it's simple and the price is right. Can't yet comment on its long-term durability, but having the aluminum housing is a good sign. I'll be honest that I can't discern the subtle sonic differences between the myriad overdrive pedals out there and the prices vary so wildly. Since they all sound about the same to me, I just opted for the cheap ones, and this Monoprice pedal fit the bill. I think it will satisfy all but the pickiest, audiophile-type player. I gave it 80%, as I'm sure there is room for improvement.

Incompatibility with cables

Pros: Good gain and distortion

Cons: Low note roll-off, reduces richness of sound.
Incompatible with one Monoprice cable

I bought this for my pedal board placing it between the tuner and reverb, connecting to both with Monoprice 601100 8" patch cable. Light wouldn't go on, pedal non-functional. This pedal needs a connection to the input to activate, and none of the four identical cables on hand would work.Curious because I had an older Monoprice 9780 8" patch cable (which they still sell), which has exactly the same description, and it worked fine.

I lost confidence in the pedal and cables and returned both, but you might have a better experience. The pedal is certainly a good value and does what it says, when it works.

Thank you for your review. Please note that PID 601100 is designed with different wiring and is not recommended for use with a petal as noted in the disclaimer in the product description. PID 9780 as you have, is intended for use with pedals and recommended for that purpose:

I apologize for any confusion this may have caused. I see you already have an RMA in place. Should you need any further assistance or questions regarding our products, feel free to contact us via live chat or email at . Thank you again for your feedback and hope this helps!
