    1 Channel Passive CCTV BALUN - Video/Audio/Power over Cat5

This pair of single channel passive video baluns will carry video, audio and power over cat5, giving you the ability to utilize straight network cables to connect your cameras. Simply connect the BNC ends to your camera and your recording device or display, connect the DC ends to a Power Supply and the Camera, then connect your network cable through the RJ45 jacks; audio can be transmitted via RCA plugs. Depending on camera power draw, power output, cable size and environment, results will vary. Average conditions allow transmission up to 1,000 ft. On longer runs video quality might be slightly reduced.

    Nice
I recently added security cameras to my home and was faced with having to manage all sorts of different AV cable lengths with unions and bnc connectors in the middle of conduits etc. Then I found these guys that let you use network cable to send the same signal, including an audio channel. I already had a big spool of cat 6 wire and all the tools to terminate the wire at custom lengths so it was a pretty simple decision vs potentially paying more for specialized cables that might not be an ideal length.

I wasn't sure if I needed an active balun or not but I crossed my fingers and ordered 9 sets of these and to my relief they seem to work perfectly. My longest run is over 90 ft and I see no appreciable difference between that camera's quality and others that only run about 30 ft.

Take care to get your network cable wiring order correct and securely crimped as the only difficulty I really had was having to re-do RJ45 network cable terminations at the top of a 16ft ladder. Also getting the baluns to fit tidily into the electrical boxes I have my cameras mounted to was a little bit challenging. With all of the camera's wiring and the external microphones I am using, they will still fit into a single gang box, but I ended up pushing any excess cat5 wire backwards up its conduit to let the balun sit nicely at the back of the box.

They have been working 24x7 for about 5 months now with out any problems. The outdoor cameras are all mounted to sealed electrical boxes, which I would recommend as I doubt that these baluns would be as reliable directly exposed to the elements.

    PROS: Works Great
Includes audio channel vs item 6878 for same price.

    CONS: Little Bulky
    Not Weather Proof

    CCTV baluns
These baluns don't require CAT5 wires. I'm using spare pairs on an inter-building 25 pair key cable which are CAT3 at best. For longer runs, I put a local 12v power supply closer to the camera and just use one pair for video back to the DVR.

The pairs used are documented on the balun package and use T568B wiring.

PROS: Allows me to use my telephone copper twisted pair infrastructure and not have to run any new wires.

    Very low price.

    No noticeable signal degradation.

CONS: The BNC male connector is fixed to the balun housing. This makes tucking the balun/connector mass into the camera mounting box a little tricky sometimes, but the whole package is small enough to fit into a standard single-gang J-box.

    Video Bal-un
I recomend this Balun to anyone installing Security Cameras, the price is perfect, and with CAT5 cable its easier than running coaxial+power cable, you can purchase the CAT5 terminated cables at different lenghts or you can make your own, Monoprice carries all the tools necesary to manage and install CAT5, this Network Tool Crimper PID 3350 is less than $12.00 and they work perfectly other stores will charge you over $30.00

    PROS: Easy to Install
Extends the distance for the video and power transmission
    Best Price anywhere
    always on stock

    CONS: none

    Simplify
The baluns offer a simple alternative to pulling bulky and sometimes fragile siamese BNC and power cables.

    Perfect
These work great. I initially purchased for a project that didn't require audio, but with the price difference, it was hard not to go ahead and purchase these units. They have performed flawlessly.

    PROS: Work as designed.

I bought eight balums and they all worked great.. Thanks agian Monoprice for another great price.

PROS: Well the price was a big pro. I had ran CAT5 and still have the old cameras. I'll be changing them out in the near future to HD's

CONS: I didn't have a guy climb the ladder to install these for me.

Makes running cameras so much easier!
Makes running cable for cameras so much more simple. Many camera systems come with a standard 50' cable for BNC + Power that is bulky and rarely the proper length. These adapters allow you to replace that cable with a much more standard Ethernet cable that is cheaper and can be cut to the exact length you need. No configuration needed.

    PROS: Plug and Play
Ethernet easier to run than BNC + Power

    CONS: None

    Awesome little device
These work great, although I have to say I found it way easier to use the side intended to go on the camera on the DVR side, as it was way too tight of a fit otherwise.

No problem with the CAT5E sold on monoprice with 100' runs.
