HDBaseT™ Daisy Chain Extender

Monoprice is a proud member of the HDBaseT™ Alliance

Add another 100 meters extension to the output of your HDBaseT™ Matrix or Splitter using this HDBaseT Daisy Chain Extender from Monoprice!

HDBaseT is the superior standard for extending HDMI® video signals to distances up to 100 meters over just a single Cat6 Ethernet cable (up to 70 meters using Cat5e cable). Additionally, each HDBaseT output can be daisy chained up to 8 times, giving a maximum total extension distance of up to 800 meters, using this Daisy Chain Extender.

This extender provides all the functionality of an HDBaseT receiver, with the addition of an HDBaseT output to extend the signal to another daisy chain repeater or to terminate it with a receiver. The extender features an HDMI video output, 3.5mm jacks for an IR receiver and transmitter, and a 2-port 100Base-TX Fast Ethernet switch.

This extender provides a minimum data transfer rate of 6.75Gbps, which means that it supports High Speed 1080p and 3D video signals, as well as high definition multichannel audio, including Dolby TrueHD™ and DTS-HD Master Audio™. The extender is compatible with all HDBaseT products from Monoprice and those from other manufacturers that conform 100% to the HDBaseT standard.

  • Supports 1080p and 3D video modes
  • Supports high definition, 7.1-channel audio, including Dolby TrueHD and DTS-HD Master Audio
  • Extends any HDBaseT output up to an additional 100 meters
  • Extend up to 100 meters using Cat6 cable (up to 70m using Cat5e)
  • Supports forward or backward IR extension
  • Supports minimum 6.75Gbps data transmission rate
  • Supports HDCP v1.2
  • Supports Deep Color up to 36-bits (12-bits/channel)
  • Supports x.v.Color™

Note: Monoprice strongly recommends using 22AWG, 24AWG, or active HDMI cables with RedMere® technology to achieve the best results and to ensure minimum signal loss over longer distances.

No HDBaseT transmission

Pros: Really good idea and potentially very useful.

Cons: Doesn't work to spec

I have tried three of these units. With two of the units the HDBaseT transmission fails if there is no active HDMI unit connected to the port. It is not know if this is a design flaw or just a defective batch. I have had great difficulty if finding anybody in Monoprice interested in getting this sorted. When the HDMI port is active it works very well and I have seen no sign of the overheating mentioned previously

Hello Stephenne,

Thank you for your review and truly sorry to hear about the issues experienced with PID 10685. If I may ask, did the same setup work with the third unit? Can you explain to me the full setup you were looking to achieve such as what devices you have connected and what length and type cables are in use? Also, has this been an issue since you first received the units? Please let me know so we can look into the issue further. Thank you!

Cables in the test set up were about 3'. Yes I think the units are not functioning out of the box. They have offered yet another unit to try and have agreed to give it a go. I have been around the bouy now several times and I have described how I have experimented with various combinations of HDBaseT transmitters and receivers. I have begged for somebody in engineering to talk directly with me so we can agree on the symptoms but this seems to be impossible. Why one unit works and not the ofhers I can't explain and just at the moment I have no access to that unit. It's connected with the HDCP but why that matters when the port is disconnected does not make sense.

Update: Runs Cooler

Pros: Runs cooler now.

Cons: Not any more.

Don't know why, but after a couple of days of operation the unit runs much cooler now. Hotspot on the bottom is only 105F (compared with 125F when new). Doesn't need to be operated upside down any longer. Mysterious!

Hot Little Number

Pros: Most affordable way to repeat or daisy-chain an HDBaseT signal.

Cons: Hot, hot, hot!

This unit receives an HDBaseT signal (HDMI over Cat5e/6) and gives you one HDMI output and one HDBaseT output, which can be sent up to 100m to another daisy-chain receiver up to 6 hops. Great for multiple monitors over long distances. (Also carries IR control signals and Ethernet.)

One quirk, though: if the unit gets powered off and on, the picture comes up all red. You need to unplug the input and let the unit reacquire the signal to get a normal picture again.

Unfortunately, the unit should have been made with a fan, as it gets really hot. The bottom of the right of the unit gets up over 125F degrees. Since there are no feet to raise it up there is no air flow under the unit. Turning it upside down puts the hot spot on top and drops the temp to about 115F.

Obviously the manufacturer knows about the heat issue, as the manual states:
"TO REDUCE THE RISK OF FIRE....Do not install or place this unit in a bookcase, built-in cabinet or another confined space. Ensure the unit is well ventilated."
