10 Outlet Power Surge Protector w/ Sliding Safety Covers - 2880 Joules

Protect your electronic equipment from damaging voltage and current spikes with this Monoprice surge protector!

This model includes ten protected power outlets, 4 of which are positioned for AC power adapters, and two pairs of gold plated coaxial/RF line protection circuits. The clear plastic tabs on the sides of the unit illuminate green to indicate when the surge protector is providing protection to your equipment and when a proper ground is detected.

When the protection circuitry has been fully consumed by power and current spikes, the protection light will no longer illuminate, indicating that the surge protector should be replaced. When the grounded tab is not illuminated it indicates that there is a problem with the house wiring and that the ground is not properly connected to the power outlet.

The surge protector has 4 keyholes on the back, allowing it to be secured to a wall or other surface.

    Failed
In a single week, lost three electronics that were all connected to this surge protector. Two on the same night during a thunderstorm. This surge protector doesn't come with insurance either.

PROS: Looks nice. Spacing is nice.

CONS: Failed at primary task: protecting electronics

    Response from Monoprice
    Hello,

Thank you for your review and truly sorry to hear about the issues experienced with PID 9200. If I may ask, what devices were connected to the surge protector at the time of the thunderstorm? Were all devices connected affected? Is the protection light still illuminated on the surge protector? Also, do you happen to have the order number for this purchase? Please let me know so we can look into this matter further. Thank you in advance!

    Super Great Surge Protector
You cannot get a surge protector with this level of protection at any of the home improvement stores for this price. Monoprice knows how to obtain and/or manufacturer products of the highest quality.

PROS: This surge protector has everything you want and it lets you know that it is grounded and protected. Very high quality at a decent price.

    CONS: None

    It glows neon green....sigh
When I ordered, I glazed over the fact that it glows green when plugged in. No way to turn that off. I used black electrical tape to cover the lighting. Its REALLY bright. Does the job as a power bar/ surge protector.

    PROS: Surge Protection, Monoprice pricing

    CONS: BRIGHT GREEN LIGHTS

    Great value
I'm impressed about everything on this product and the price at which I can get it. My only wish is that the plug were right-angled so it could sit flusher with the wall behind the cabinet/TV stand rather than having to use an extra 3ft right angle extension cord for that benefit.

PROS: plug placement, quality build, light confirmation

CONS: not so much a con as a potential improvement: a flat (right-angle) plug, either angled at 45 or 90 degrees so as not to obstruct a plug below, or even a 360 degree freely rotating plug. This would increase price, but also eliminate the need for buying another short adapter/extender.

    works good
I have had this product only for a couple of days and so far its working just fine. Kinda of had to push in the plugs hard but that also makes it snug i guess. Not crazy about the lights but because it lights up grounded and protected i was able to realize that the outlight in my wall was not wired correctly and because of this the light "grounded" was not lit up and that led me to fix the wall outlet(just a switch around when it came to the outlet on the wall) and is now fixed and wired correctly. If it wasnt for that light i prob wouldnt have ever noticed it wasnt grounded correctly.. thanks monoprice!

PROS: Works and looks as described. spacious between plug ins.

    CONS: nothing yet

A lot of room for plugs, nice design. Would buy more. Almost a 10, but it would be nice if the cord were a bit longer, and using it in my bedroom is annoying because the power light is pretty bright and I don't sleep as well.

Great, but the lights are too bright
The long sides have clear plastic that say "protected" and "grounded" and if you're protected/grounded, there's a bright green LED inside the protector on each side which illuminate the plastic. So this isn't just a simple LED where you can simply put some tape over the light. If you want to hide the light, you have to cover the entire plastic side with tape or get out your dremel tool and cut the plastic out of the device. It wouldn't be as big of a deal if it wasn't so bright, but it's pretty darn bright. It's bright to the point where it bothers me while I'm sleeping in the room. Still a well built protector, but it needs to be modded. I just put it in the office instead...

PROS: 4 offset outlets instead of 2 allow for more blocks. The keyhole mounts work great. I used screws and drywall anchors and securely mounted easily to the wall. The on/off switch is in a position where it cannot be easily pressed by accident.

CONS: The lights showing "protected" and "grounded" are way too bright and not easy to "hide". See below.

    The light is blinding
It's a great surge protector in that there is plenty of room for 4 wall-wart transformers and still have access to the 6 other outlets for normal plugs. My only complaint(if you can call it that) is the LED lights to indicate surge protection and that the unit is turned on function as a very bright night light. Although I bought this for the living room and my office so that's not a deal breaker but I definitely would not use one of these in my bedroom.

PROS: Plenty of room for wall-warts and plugs

CONS: LEDs are too bright for full time use in a bedroom(unless you want a night light, then its a PRO)

Overall this is a great surge protector. I would not recommend using it in a room where you need to sleep the green LED indicator lights are bright enough to illuminate an entire room.

    PROS: price
    4 power brick outlets
    outlet covers

    CONS: super bright led indicators

    Produces Obnoxious Hum
I've used this strip for all of 5 minutes, and I'm returning it.

It seems that at some point during this device's design, an observation was made that electronics manufacturers just don't design things like they used to, and that the world really needed a return to the good old days when the order in which you connected AC adapters to things was the difference between having a working laptop and having a toasted DC input board.

Accordingly, this power strip was designed in such a way as to zap the everliving **** out of anything you attempt to plug into it, then buzz at you so that you repeat the process a few times in order to figure out what's going on.

    PROS: It works, I suppose.

CONS: Design of sockets seems to cause dramatically increased occurrence of arcing when plugging things in compared to other power strips and wall outlets, device produces subtle but annoying hum when powered on with anything connected.
