The good news is that I was lost in a cave this weekend, and I had this speaker, as as i dive deep into the cave I found this freakish blinking blue light would save my life. As I walked around the light blinked blue and I saw the face of a giant sleeping lizard as it turned it's eye I saw the fiery look in it's eye and I started to run, I then heard a loud WHOOSH as the lizard took flight!
it was all I could do to not cry, but I held up my speaker, with it's rhythmic blue light and the monster stopped, mid air, and just stared at the freakish, bright, lighthouse dwarfing light that is on my speaker. the dragon sat down, and fell fast asleep as I used spotify to lull him down with the blinking light. I used the beacon of freedom(I call my speaker that now) to find my way out of the cave I had fallen into. as i emerged late into the night I had no idea where I was. I held up the BOF and a plane overhead saw the blue blinking light and radiod out that there was a blue lighthouse in the middle of the african desert. 5 hours later a car was there to get me, and the battery ran out, spotify stopped, but with 10+ hours of playback, and a light that calmed a dragon and flagged down a plan 10 thousand feet above.... this speaker has changed my life.
Most of the above is true, some of it is not - but seriously an awesome speaker, with the single most annoying light i have ever seen on a speaker. Thankfully.. black duct tape on the grill fixed the issue, 1 dollar fix. but it seems so un needed, why is it even there?
PROS: Great battery life, good sound quality, pairing is easy, NFC works flawlessly, controls are good as well, speaker phone came in handy twice this week already. very worth getting.
CONS: the light, oh sweet mary mother of god, THE LIGHT - it's SO BLUE and it's SO BRIGHT!
Here's what the LEDs do while pairing and charging the unit:
Charging LED indicator is Red
Pairing LED indicator is Blue
Both of these indicators emanate from the same area of the front panel, and may be illuminated simultaneously.
At initial power-up, the blue pairing indicator LED will flash constantly and rapidly.
Once a device (e.g. cell phone) is paired and connected to the speaker, the speaker's blue pairing LED will blink quickly three times, followed by one second of no blinks, then it blinks three times again, ad infinitum.
When a connected device (e.g. smart phone) disconnects from the speaker, the blue pairing LED will blink twice, then stop blinking, then resume blinking, ad infinitum.
Charging takes about three hours from a depleted state. Speaker will voice-notify you that the speaker unit needs recharging.
Red Charging LED indicator will be solid red while charging.
Red Charging LED indicator will shut off at end of charging cycle
PROS: Compact, easy to use, decent sound, rechargeable battery. Super long battery life. Recharges using any micro USB charger. Unit can answer calls, adjust volume, and skip tracks with buttons on unit.
CONS: Limited bass. Limited instruction booklet (see my notes below for additional help)
PROS: Easy to setup
Perfect for my office, as I do not need it to be very loud.
CONS: Pairing notification to loud and not adjustable
If you're deciding between the $150 jambox and the $34 monoprice speaker, just remember that you could buy this speaker, and with the savings you can buy 6 T-Rex pinatas on Amazon with the remaining money (that's a lot of pinatas)!
PROS: Good battery Life
Easy Bluetooth connect
CONS: No travel case/cover
PROS: Affordable, easy to use, good sound, charges fast and holds charge for long time
CONS: could be louder
I did tweak my EQ on my phone and the sound quality improved even more than expected. Careful with the low end though, the bass will distort if it's pushed too hard (duh, it's a 40mm driver).
There is no separate volume control on the speaker. This is actually quite nice, IMO. As is par for the course, my phone at 100% volume will distort the speaker (although not near as badly as I assumed). Anything lower than 90% sounds great.
I bought this to use while paddling my canoe, camping, sitting outside by the fire, etc. For these purposes, this is going to be an excellent unit.
I'm really not sure why the complaints on sound quality from other reviewers. A speaker this small (unless it's Bose) will only be able to do so much. Why complain that it doesn't pump out bass like a twin 18" subwoofer box? Pointless.
* supplied charging cable and 3mm cable are very short.
* when paired if your phone gets a txt message or email sometimes the connection drops out but then comes back... kinda annyoing but not sure if this is a bluetooth problem or device problem or a phone problem (iphone) Doesn't happen all the time though.
* bluetooth range is not that far and is pretty much line of sight
* When plugged in and charging while the battery is still low the built in voice status keeps repeating "Low Battery". It disrupts whatever you are listening too to let you know your battery is low. My wife thinks its annoying...
Overall great little speaker for the money. Has been in use ~4hrs a day for couple weeks now and no problems working.
CONS: bluetooth range
Easily fills a room with undistorted sound
CONS: Range on the Bluetooth is only about 10ft.
PROS: Good sound and value.
CONS: LOUD VOICE PROMPTS ARE ANNOYING.
PROS: Loud, sleek, easy paring of bluetooth
CONS: The volume buttons and track is the same. Audio cable is too short buy a longer one. Buttons fragile
