Premium 3D Printer Filament ABS 1.75MM 1kg/spool, Blue

Get outstanding 3D printing results when you use 1.75mm ABS 3D Printer Filament from Monoprice!

ABS is one of the most commonly used filament types in 3D printing. It has a high tensile strength and good overall toughness. It has a low density and is softer than PLA, which means lower weight and lower cost when printing large models. Hardness is such that no white dot appears when bending.

This 1 Kg spool features a thickness of 1.75mm ±0.10mm, with a roundness variation of only 0.05mm. It has a nominal processing temperature of 230° C (446°F). Thickness and roundness factors are laser measured at the factory to ensure accuracy over the entire length of the filament.

The negatives of using ABS is that it can give off a white smoke with a concentrated odor. It is best to ensure that the printing room is well ventilated when using ABS.

Additionally, it has a high moisture absorption rate. Depending on the overall humidity level of the printing environment, an opened spool can absorb enough moisture after a couple of days that high temperature printing could cause bubbles or pocks in the extrusion. It is therefore recommended to not open a spool until you are ready to print and to store any unused portion with silica gel and/or an active dehumidifier to reduce the amount of moisture it can absorb.

Bought this for a small, shared hackerspace. We have an Afinia H479 with an Octave temperature control module, and have printed a few grams worth of prints.

This filament is much more temperature sensitive than other third party filaments if your printer cannot go down to 230 degrees, don't bother working with this. It happily boils and leaves you with a hole-filled print, and does so at a much higher rate than other filament vendors.

It leaves stray strands of melted filament at an ever-so-slightly higher rate than our other vendors' filaments do, but not enough to justify their higher price.

We've added Monoprice to our list of okayed filament vendors, and will continue to order Monoprice filament whenever it's the cheapest of the entries in our list.

Pros: Good cost, consistent quality through spool.

I purchased this with some white and black ABS from MonoPrice. The white and black printed with no problems. Smooth clean prints. The blue however was giving me fits. My Extruders kept clicking and I was getting very inconsistent extrusions along with clicking. I was about ready to call Monoprice for return/exchange, but did some research. I found that sometimes different colors have higher melting points. I increased my extruder temp from 230 to 240 degrees and everything started printing perfectly. I still have to give the filament high marks because it prints great, but I though I would write this review in case someone else has the same problem. Simple solution, just need to remember.

Pros: High Quality. Excellent layer adhesion.

Cons: Found a few kinks in the spool.

High quality filament. Consistent diameter along the full length. Excellent layer adhesion compared to other filaments I've used.
