16 Port Unmanaged 10/100/1000 Mbps Gigabit Ethernet Switch - Rack Mountable

The Monoprice 16-port Gigabit Ethernet Switch is a professional networking switch that is capable of working within the fastest network systems. The switch conforms to the IEEE802.3, IEEE802.3u, and IEEE820.3ab standards, allowing it to work with 10, 100, and 1000 Mbps networking products. The 16-port design is perfect for use in large data centers, large and small businesses, and even as part of a larger home network installation.

This rack-mount capable device includes sixteen RJ-45 LAN jacks and sixteen corresponding green/orange link/activity status LEDS on the front panel. The LINK/ACT LEDs will glow or blink orange when a 10 or 100 Mbps connection is detected or active, and they will glow/blink green when a 1000 Mbps connection is detected/active. The switch's internal power supply can handle 100-240 VAC 50/60 Hz input and it draws a scant 25 watts power.

Installation is as simple as plugging the unit into a wall outlet and inserting cables into the ports on the front. When using 10BASE-T connections, Cat3 UTP cable is sufficient and when using 100BASE-TX connections Cat5 UTP or STP cable is acceptable. However, when using 1000BASE-T connections, Cat5, Cat5e, or Cat6 UTP or STP cable is preferred, with Cat6 STP providing the highest level of reliability and signal integrity.

The switch automatically detects the use of straight (MDI) or crossover (MDIX) cables and switches the connection to whichever is needed for the connected device. Therefore any of the sixteen ports can be connected to the upstream hub or router and the others connected to downstream PCs, hubs, or other switches.

This Monoprice switch has an integrated 8K MAC address table and supports MAC address auto-learning and auto-aging. It supports NWAY auto-negotiation and provides an ultra-fast 32 Gbps backplane bandwidth with non-blocking line speed forwarding.

With all speeds, connections, and functions automatically configured and supported, there is no manual configuration or setup required. Simply plug it in and start using it right away!

Not really for indoor use at a home

Pros: Worked for me when installed

Cons: LOUD

I'm not sure how some reviews claim it is quiet.
The version I got was very loud.

Maybe compared to other rackmount based switches, it is loud, but it definitely wasn't designed for use if your network center is inside a house.

Pros: Excellent Switch....No Problems. Been running it since 2012.

Cons: None

Excellent would defiantly recommend. Is it possible to get replacement rack mount brackets for this item?

Intermittent connectivity

Pros: Price point.

Cons: Not working as designed.

I purchased this switch for a small office of 4 users and 4 peripherals with some extra ports for future-proofing and after one day in service, the switch began to maintain network connectivity intermittently. Currently there are only 4 PCs and one printer installed and devices cannot consistently ping between each other and internet traffic was spotty it would work for a few minutes and then when re-opening up a web browser, it would lose connection. I really anticipated having a better working switch given the reviews. Thoroughly disappointed. I will be returning.

Thank you for your review and truly sorry to hear about the experience you have had with PID 8747. If I may ask, did the switch appear to get hot at all? What length cables were in use? Were you able to try swapping out the cables to see if that made any difference?

Please let me know if the problems still occur. If they do, I can assist you in obtaining a replacement to see if it will work better or a return RMA if preferred. We do cover this switch with a one year warranty and obtaining a replacement is of no additional cost. If you want to continue with an RMA, please let me know your results and if you wanted to return it or obtain a replacement. Thank you!

Hi Gabby,

The switch did not get hot. The patch cables that I used are 1"foot cables I purchased from Monoprice. I did not swap out the patch cables, as I could not have that office down for too long and I already spent a lot of time troubleshooting the PCs and IPs that I finally connected the vital PCs to the router.

I would like an RMA. I do not want to exchange it as I have already ordered a replacement elsewhere, thank you.
