24 Port 10/100 Mbps Fast Ethernet Switch - Rackmountable

The Monoprice 24-port Fast Ethernet Switch is a professional networking switch that conforms to the IEEE802.3 10Base-T Ethernet and IEEE802.3u 100Base-TX Fast Ethernet standards. The rack-mountable, 24-port design is perfect for use as a network switch for stack of servers or as a distribution switch to a roomful of server racks.

This device is designed to be mounted into a server rack, and features front panel RJ-45 LAN connections, as well as front-panel link/activity status LEDS. the switch is powered by a standard AC 3-prong equipment cable and has an on/off rocker switch on the back panel. A green LED on the front panel indicates when power is applied.

Although it is designed for professional, power networking applications, installation is as simple as plugging the unit into a power source inserting Cat5/Cat5e STP or UTP cables into the ports. The switch automatically detects the use of straight (MDI) or crossover (MDIX) cables and switches the connection to whichever is needed for the connected device. Therefore any of the twenty-four ports can be connected to the upstream hub or router and the others connected to downstream servers, hubs, or other switches.

This Monoprice network switch has an integrated 8K MAC address table and supports MAC address auto-learning and auto-aging. All ports can automatically diagnose half-/full-duplex modes and a dynamic buffer area automatically allocates to perform real-time network load balancing. The switch also examines error frames and adjusts itself as necessary to ensure reliable data packet transfers.

With all speeds, connections, and functions automatically configured and supported, there is no manual configuration or setup required. Simply plug it in and start using it right away!

    Works but slow

    Pros: Reliable so far.

    Cons: Slow

Short Version: I added this switch to my home network. The home network has another Fast Ethernet Switch. When I performed a speed test the monoprice switch ran at 30mpbs. The other switch ran at 92mbs.

Long Version: My home network is configured as follows: Comcast Blast (150mbps service) to a SB6190 cable modem feeds into a gigabit wireless router (adult wi-fi). This router feeds another gigabit wireless router (kid wi-fi) and to the monoprice switch. The router for the kid wi-fi feeds another Fast Ethernet Switch. So the kid wi-fi switch is farther downstream than the monoprice switch, so I would expect it to be slower. I tested with everybody out of the house and I disconnect all other ports on the monoprice switch when I performed the test. I didn't order the gigabit switch because I figured the fast ethernet switch would give me close to 100 mbps. We have 4 kids...so six people in house....plus friends. The other switch performed as expected, yielding 92mbps. The monoprice is stuck around 30 mbps for some reason.

    Other test results:
    Speed from modem: 180mbps
Speed from hardwire to adult wi-fi gigabit router: 180mbs
Speed from hardwire that goes to monoprice switch: 180mbps
Speed out of monoprice switch with only my test laptop connected to switch: 30mbps
Speed from hardwire from kid wi-fi router: 180mbps
Speed from fast ethernet switch connected to kid wi-fi: 92mbps (didn't disconnect all from this switch...but nobody was home, so I don't think there was any other traffic on switch....even if there was....92mbps is totatlly acceptable).

    Hello,

I sincerely apologize for the slow speeds experienced with this ethernet switch. If you would like, I can assist you in setting up an RMA for a replacement to see if a new unit will work out any better. With all the testing you performed, it is sounding like you received a defective unit, unfortunately. If you want to proceed, please let me know and I will get that started right away. Sorry again for the trouble and thank you for your feedback!

    Not for 220V racks

Pros: Nice price for a rack mount switch

Cons: Monoprice support informed us that the switch is not compatible with 220V rack power

I'm guessing this is a fine switch, but we had to return it because it was not compatible with the PDU for our rack.

Good choice but plan for the layout

Pros: This device is smart, easy to set into motion and needs no instructions. The price is excellent for all this.

Cons: Not so much a con as a warning: The power cord sticks out a lot at the back and so will not fit in many shallow racks. I had to order a right angle plug cord to make anything work in the space I had.

    I Recommend this switch.
